if u use ubuntu . u can straight away formate use disk utilities under admin .
from there can chose ext 2, ext 3, ex4 |

linux its an operating system
 root will grand stuff like -custom rom (numbers of rom out there ) -access to paid apps ( u need to pay . if u wan pirate one wan go applanet.com) -changing the lock screen if u havent root or anything , then u are running on stock froyo . |
