guys, have decided to get a DSLR, even more poison seeing few frenz took out theirs during CNY... since its my 1st buy, i m thinking of getting Canon 60D with 18-200mm lens.. is this combo good?
*
Do u need a canon 60D in the first place? Why not go for Canon 550D and spend the rest on more proper lens? When i tell ppl i have EF-S lens they will say they use it as paper weight haha

First what type of photos u like to take?

Photographing is not how expensive your tools are but how creative and skill you are as well.

This sifu take all his photos with a canon 550D
http://www.flickr.com/photos/kytz/with/5397847260/

When u think ure up to another standard considering a better body is not too late. Like the video i posted above cheap body + pro lens = ownage

If u are new to photography best i recommend get 550D at least comes with video recording as well. No point get mid class then few months later sell. Most important are the lens

He sifu ma. Haha u see his photos quite nice even from canon 550D somemore with 50mm F/1.8 lens only.

Honestly i hardly use the articulating screen at direct sunlight u cant see anything on the screen hahaha.

I see alot ppl as beginner straight go for canon 60D already.

LOL. Later he sure kill me de tongue.gif

Articulating screen quite useful, if you use it for video, or perhaps some tight angle shots. I would not say its useless. Its a good feature to have, albeit the price.

If you want to shoot a model from above, then the articulating screen is a plus to have lol.

haha tongue.gif yeap or over the crowd or certain angle. Maybe spy cam to use along corridor many benefits haha. Ill go for 60D for the 5.3fps take alot movement thingie. 550D 3.7fps too slow di

I'm not saying a beginner means that can't learn how to use a good camera fast.

What I'm trying to say is wouldn't it be better for her to learn from basic? I've read somewhere here where people asked beginners to learn from bottom with a compact camera until their skill > camera ability before stepping into SLR/DSLR.

And also perhaps some might suggest me with other camera's that would fit in the budget. I've got friends who said with the price of NEX, I would be better getting other models. And also I know nothing about photography, that is the reason I asked here.

+1 Lately u go everywhere alot of ppl using DSLR but when they post their photo its abit you know. Its best u learn the basic and if u think ure up for it then only upgrade. DSLR investment is not cheap in long run

Type of camera/lens/accesories : DSLR camera
Budget : +-RM3000
Your Location : Semenyih
Preferable brand : none
Type of photography u want to do : New to photo shooting, allrounder will be best fit for my case
Any specific models in mind? : none
Any specific features u want? : errr.. not sure, at least it can shoot very clear photo?

still considering a DSLR but i have no experience choosing or taking photo with a DSLR, not sure which camera will best suit me. whats the difference between body with kits and body without kits? any new model DSLR coming out? should i top up my budget to get better ones? oh ya and i heard that the shutter got lifespan is it true? oh ya and which guide will best for me to read about DSLR? thank you very much
*
I suggest try to learn more about photography before venturing into DSLR. Or else u end up coming out alot of money and disappointed of the quality. Maybe try it at the shop or hangout with some friends with DSLR. Play with it learn it then if u think u are serious only get it.

Can your suggestion apply to my case ??

If u notice these days everyone carry DSLR and many lens but how many looks great?. I not criticizing anyone but to make u understand its like u buy a Skyline R35 but u take it to drive to work. The car is abit big for parking and too long to overtake sometimes. Question is do u really need it? It does look good petrol also makan faster. The car have tons of features but u hardly use it.

DSLR without proper lens cant take macro , cant zoom far , lack of quality sometimes. So why not learn from a friend? if your friend suggest u to get D90 or D3100 ask them to let u play around it to see whether u will like it?

Like macro ? low light ,portrait , landscape? Then only decide. Not too late?

now i'm clear already, and i'm planning to go further with photography cause my digital camera cant fulfill me anymore.. XD
should i wait for 600D or go with 550D? since not much changes.. or wait till 600D out then oni get 550D hoping the price will drop?
*
depends on what is your needs? What type of photos do u plan to shoot often? Body only can get u so far. Beyond that are the lens.

hi, thinking of picking up photography as a hobby and need some recommendation

with less than 2k budget for an entry level dslr, i have currently limited my choices to 1100d(1000d if the improvement from 1100d is marginal), sony a33, nikon 3100d,  any other option that you think is better is welcomed.. planned to do thing like portrait, macro and some low light.
btw, which brand has better resale value cos who knows i might feel this hobby doesnt suit me and want to sell off my camera in the future..

ohya.. i am also not planning to buy new lens in the near future so kit lens quality is important for me
*
get a longer zoom lens maybe 18-135 or 18-200 so u can cover most shots without upgrades

If u are not planning to upgrade then d3100 is sufficient and get a long zoom lens maybe 18-200 or tamron 18-270

I see. Thanks so much for your reply. Really helped me a whole lot.

Would it be better , say, if i go for the 1100d and invest my remaining cash in lens? That's what some of my buddies advice me to do.
*
For me I recommend to go for the lens because lens is the one that makes the biggest difference.

1100d only camera but if u wan video recording then go for 550d.

I have proven many times to people it's not about how much your gadget cost but how u take it. There some photo I took with mobile phone he go show to his friend so called professional dslr and he said it's impossible to take with a mobile phone. I show him the exif then he keep quiet di.
