Those are what separates the 60D from the 550D, but do potential buyers really need those features? Most of them who are clueless about DSLR as such, will just go " Waaaa Canon 60D is the latest camera, i should get it!" or " 60D looks good! I'll get it" . Just like that.

Like i mentioned earlier before, if you need those nifty features offered by a 60D over a 550D, then get it. If not, why even bother? A 550D will do it's job excellently also. Not talking about subjects which require fast AF lock on or excellent AI servo performance whatsoever.. biggrin.gif

Then again, some might just prefer the bigger body of the 60D. The grip is bigger, meatier and nicer to hold especially for those with bigger hands. A bigger body would be able to balance heavier lenses better also, due to the extra weight.

Difference between 550D&60D body is roughly around RM800.Is it that worth it? That is what buyers should think about smile.gif
*
around rm800, i think its worth it. but if one dont need all the other features that the 60D can offer, then the 550D is the way to go.

hye there guys, im upgrading my camera soon. im choosing either the 7D and the 5D mark 2. well i have watch videos such as this one (below), and others, and also i've read some articles about both cameras. its kinda hard for me to choose either. im hoping that any of u guys could help me decide or atleast convince me on anything. well, u may ask, wut type of photography - almost about everything, the streets, some events (birthday parties, gatherings, my fishing trips tongue.gif),and i love taking pics at night (low light conditions). so maybe any of u guys can help me? thanks smile.gif

oh ya, i forgot to state down something. i own 1 EF-S lens, and 1 EF. the 50mm 1.8 and the 18-200 smile.gif

7D is the mini machine gun with superior AF performance while the 5D mark 2 is the low light monster, with Full frame goodness( better detail, colours, dynamic range, orgasmic ISO performance, shallower DOF,etc)

I'd definitely choose the 5D mark 2 if I don't do any sports shooting or anything that requires such a good AF performance. The 5D mark 2 is one hell of a camera especially with that FF sensor and that 21mp, you'll be getting awesome portraiture, scenery, street photograph, etc shots. Just that people are complaining of the AF performance..

You didn't mention sports did you? brows.gif I'm guessing you're leaning more towards the 5D2 eh brows.gif

Try asking 5D mark 2 owners like unker ianho, xlegato, nicotine and pengster in the Canon EOS thread smile.gif
*
thanks alot bro for ur replies. yes man, i didnt state any sports init cuz im not doing any.

honestly, i was stuck with the 7D the first time. and i was very keen to buy it. but 2 days ago, i told my uncle, who's a wedding photographer (and he's using the 40D), that im buying a 7D, he said "that's a great camera, but why not 5D mark 2?". that's when i snapped and i started askin him more questions on wut camera i should buy now. he ask me back, "wut do u really want, and wut type of photography u're intrested in?". so i told him this and that, and he told me to get a 5D mark 2. so im kinda blur right now. bcuz im all the way to 7D, (and about to make a purchase really soon) and here comes the older brother 5D which is a superior camera as well.

i watch videos and yeah, they said that the 7D's new AF system with 19 AF points is no joke. its superb and fast. but wut u said is super-right as well, im doing pics of mostly no movement things (maybe the streets are considered movable things ey? tongue.gif). so i might not need the super fast AF. but who knows right? and could u explain more about the AF probs? i read this in some uk forums as well. one of the forumers are having some probs to focus in low light condition. is this bad?

well in this digitalrev.com website, there's they're opinion on both cameras. any chance this is true? http://www.digitalrev.com/en/which-one-to-...59-article.html

i really cant make up my mind here, but kytz, thank alot, for supporting and taking ur time to reply. i appreciate it so much smile.gif

Why not look into A33 by Sony? It performs better than D3100 anyways lol.

I don't think he mention Sony as his preferable brand. so Please stop with your sony-ian thingy.
I doesn't help him at all..
don't you know people might have difference preference?  doh.gif

with all due respect, i think the dude is just trying to state his opinion. its what this thread for. to keep options open. atleast the buyer aka newbie can widen his choices. and perhaps learn more about camera before he bought any. its not wrong to be fanboys or to love one brand. because in the end the dude is going to choose it himself. stating an opinion isnt a wrong thing IMO.

Hi All, I'm trying to venture into photography using DSLR and I'm looking at the following options.

Type of camera/lens/accesories :  DSLR
Budget: Max RM3.3-3.4k? (max for me is nikon D90)
Your Location:   KL
Preferable brand : Nikon
Type of photography u want to do : Anything as of now, no specific ones.
Any specific models in mind? :  D90 or D5000
Any specific features u want? :  no specific ones

Looking at the specs, both D90 and D5000 look similar. D5000 is more beginner friendly and D90 is more forward looking (i.e. can offer more controls when I get used to it etc?). I have hold both of my friends' D90 and D5000, I find the weight okay for D90 and D5000 is probably just a bit too small but unnoticable for me. I really dont know which to pick and if there are any differences that I should know but I dont yet.

So should I spend more on D90 or buy D5000+lens/extra battery etc? Is the picture quality the same (if used by the same person)?

Additional info: I have been playing with my P&S camera for 2 years which has manual controls on iso, aperture and shutter. So I'm a little exposed to what are these about.

Thanks guys!

im not sure wether i got this fact right onot, but a fren of mine (who lives next door to me tongue.gif), is using a D5000. i ask him why not D90? he said that the big diff between these 2 cameras is the vari-angle screen, and the D90 (920k-dot resolution) while the D5000 (230k-dot resolution LCD screen), D5000's smaller, the D90 got this upper LCD screen as well (which looks nicer to me IMO tongue.gif). other than that, im not really sure. btw, from my point of view, i think the D5000 is more for a starters who wants to try some new things with the LCD screen that can swivel, and it smaller, hence its lighter. the LCD screen may come in handy if u're trying to shoot some high/low angle shots. but maybe viewing back ur images will not be as nice as viewing on the D90's 920k-dot screen. if u dont mind about the screen resolution, go for D5000. and if u do, D90 then. hope this helps thumbup.gif

p/s- if i said anything wrong about these 2 cameras, pls do correct me. the fact is i only read about these stuffs. i dont own any smile.gif

Type of camera/lens/accesories :  compact camera
Budget: 3.5K
Preferable brand :  any really...Nikon/Canon/Panasonic/Ricoh/Olympus
Type of photography u want to do :  any
Any specific models in mind? :  Canon S95 or Panasonic Lumix GF2
Any specific features u want? :  Good focus, fast shutter speed, good under low light situation
*
both of the cameras u stated is under ur budget. just that they r truly different cameras. GF2 is a micro four third system camera(inter-changeable lens) while the S95 is a high-end compact. this means that the GF2 holds up a bigger sensor hence the GF2 is capable in handling low light pics well, lesser noise than the S95. here's some sensor sizes that might giv u an idea.

user posted image

and the GF2 is not really pocket-able when u pair it up with some serious lenses or even the 14-42 is kinda big. u might wanna consider some cargo pants or a small bag to keep it then. well as the S95, its really pocket-able. me myself i own an S95 n the reason why i bought it is bcuz of pocket-ability. so when im not with my bulky DSLR, i still can shoot up some decent images. so its really up to u, pocket-ability, or better iq. hope this helps. cheers thumbup.gif

i know point and shoot cameras have IS in the bodies...(coz the lens alredy stuck to the body right...hahaha...).....

anyway, my internet kinda slow here(im in the middle of ocean here), can anyone with free time suggest to me which is better DSLR for me(i expect to use this dslr for the next 2-3 years and i will use it mainly for landscape panorama shots)....

budgetwise.... body & lens if can not over rm4k
*
there's alot of camera brands out there and i must say all of them arent much different. the take pics, nice pics. and around that much money u can get a pretty decent DSLR with plenty of features.

if ur looking into sony system, i think the sony a580 is pretty decent and well featured. if ur into nikon, maybe go for the D90 since the D7000 is still rm4500 including the lens. or if ur into canon, look for the 60D+18-135 kit. and im sorry but im not so good on other brands.

buy the camera+the kitlens or some upgraded lens (eg 18-135 / 18-105), then throw in a 50mm 1.8 together as well. its a nice combination to have. hope this helps thumbup.gif

Type of photography u want to do : Landscape
Any specific models in mind? : Lumix LX5
Any specific features u want? : I like those photos where u can focus on the object while the background remains blur.. DSLR is the best for this, but i think DSLR is just too heavy to carry around for holidays doh.gif
*
actually an entry lvl DSLR aint that heavy lah bro. and if u really want to get the oof background kind-of image, an entry level model+50mm 1.8 should serve u really well. when i had my 1000D+50mm 1.8, i hung it on my shoulders across my body and i dont even feel the weight tongue.gif its really not that heavy and the results is stunningly great. but that's just my opinion. chiahau suggested u the sony nex3/5. that's a great lil interchangable-lens camera as well. but if ur really into the lumix lx5, go for it. its a good high end compact. u may wanna look into the lumix lx3/5's gallery to get some ideas bro thumbup.gif

Type of photography u want to do : any kind. i travel a lot
Any specific models in mind? : 60d
Any specific features u want? : hd movies, good low light photography

actually my question is about the lens. within that budget, should i get the kit lens? i can get the body with the price around 3k rm
im aimin for EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS, but i could use some help here
*
The 60D itself is a fantastic camera. Well u could go with kitlens / 18-135 / 18-200 / 18-55+55-250+50mm 1.8.

Its really up to u, if u don't mind carrying the kitlens+tele around, then go for it. I read somwhere that the iq is better than a single 18-200 lens.

But if u don't mind carrying, I wud like to suggest go for the 50mm 1.8+the kitlens+55-250.within ur budget,I think its gonna be enough smile.gif

Just my opinion there thumbup.gif

What do u guys think about 50D with 24-105 f4L ??

Heard in low light when bump 50D to ISO1600, noise is significant. anyone has comment on this?
*
Kytz has pretty much told u everything up there. But I just wanted to add something. The 24-105 on a crop body may not giv u the wide angle shot. And if ur really scared about noise, better of u stick with primes. U'll get a decent shutter speed n low ISO also. For crop bodies, staying under 400 ISO is advisable for optimum noise control. Even for an FF, it's better to stay under 400 ISO. But I used a crop body before n I love to bump my ISO to 1600 sometimes. Like kytz said above, u can always shoot in raw n pp later. That's much better. smile.gif

I'd like buy a DSLR,

3500-4000

recommend me one, i dont mind any brand but as long as it'll do well in the long run.

and also compatibility with lenses is a must.
*
not sure which one to recommend u. since ur budget is around that figure, so the nikon D7000 is out of ur budget already. soi think u can go with the canon EOS 60D. it offers great features for beginners and for pros for that matter. smile.gif happy shopping! thumbup.gif
