Since you have such a high budget. Getting a Nikon D7000 or Canon EOS 60D shouldn't be a problem. I personally recommend D7000 for its toughness and the sensor. Since Sensor in D7000 is manufactured by Sony and Sony's sensors have recently received positive reviews. They are good for its dynamic range and high ISO performance. Those who claim Nikon has the best performance in these 2 aspects, some might not know the fact of Nikon sensors being manufactured by Sony, and little tweaked by Nikon.

60D in my opinion will win with some prime lenses in Canon EF, EF-S line-up such as 50mm f1.2, 85mm f1.2 and many other excellent prime lenses. But I believe Nikon will have better zoom lenses. It's 70-200mm f2.8 VR II being a very good example. For APS-C DX format Nikon, there is a Nikkor 16-85mm which is a very good APS-C zoom lens, and it arguably one of the best among all brands for its sharpness, built quality and focal range.

But I will also personally recommend you to consider DSLR from other brands too. Sony Alpha a77 will be my top recommendation. You can read more from the internet and should be very well impressed! biggrin.gif

Lol. No harm having a look into Sony although people in Malaysia are majority C/N. I'm one of the proud user of Sony and also having a great interest in Pentax and Olympus for their superior quality. This may be personal but I gave up Canon and Nikon after years of using it and changed ship liao.

Anyway no fanboyism here so let answer your question.

Both D7000 and 60D should come with 18-105mm and 18-135mm respectively as their kit. If you dare to bare the risk of not under local warranty, Online shop T-dimension are selling 60D in a very reasonable price. Cheaper than what the local shops can offer. I don't think you should go for 600D since you can afford 60D.

Do you shoot much video? Be noted that Canon and Nikon can't do AF during Video shooting.

Simple mathematics. By counting the advantages of both 60D and 600D, you should know what to choose.

Besides, I never trust websites which do not review cameras with samples but only specs. This is just like how normal DSLR owners (I do not mean photographers, there are difference) will simply tell you CXXXN or NXXXN are the best and only usable cameras in the earth.

If you know Canon EOS well, you should know all entry-level DSLR are named with a thousand/hundred digits models, intermediate-level DSLR are named with ten digits models and the professional-level DSLR are single digit named. So the current 1D, 5D and 7D will win 60D, and 60D will definitely win 600D and 1100D. That's simple.

If you read the 2 comparison above, you will see that the comparison makes no sense at all. A77 has more advantages but won 7D and lost to D7000, what kind of comparison is this? In fact, the "winning" factor is greatly decided by the votes gathered by the users. Apparently Canon and Nikon have MUCH MORE fans therefore it's not surprise for such result.

Anyway, just go for what you like. After all, the one using it is more important than the camera. You can always change when you feel you are ready for other camera.

Both Canon 1100D and Nikon D3100 will do excellent photography. Recently I saw shops selling RM1599 but normally RM1699 so it shouldn't be a problem for your budget. But if you could slightly top up your budget, Getting a Sony a35 will be the best in entry-level. In fact, if you always do HD movie recording, Canon and Nikon will have their limitations on Video especially AF and liveview. In the price range, only Sony allows you to shoot video in AF.

Olympus E510 and E420 are also good camera for lightweight. They are tough and produce good pictures as well. I especially like the blue colour produced by Olympuc Zuiko Lenses. Pentax k-r is a trendy model which has lots of colour to be chosen. If you used film Pentax lenses, you will know how good their lenses is. If my recall correctly, Pentax's kit lens is even weatherproof.

Anyway just go for any model you are interested in, as you can always later when you feel you need higher performance and are also interested in certain specific lenses in certain brands. Try to google into all models I recommended in above or you can personally pm me for details, I shall answer you if I have the knowledge you want. =)

Mirrorless for lightweight.

Traditional dslr if you dont mind the weight.

Sony Nex5n>D5100/600D in low light performance and autofocus in video.

Choose yourself after trying 3 of them physically. smile.gif

For that price, I believe Olympus XZ-1 will be a better performer. =)

Personally comapred S95 with XZ-1, S95 loses in almost every aspects except slightly faster operation time.
