60D is a very good DSLR camera with video making however if you don't mind waiting a little bit 600D is coming out. tongue.gif
as for the budget I don't think you can get 60D + kit lens + good speedlite for 3.5k budget correct me if I am wrong

hey guys! i'm deciding to get a 'semi-pro' or a compact with manual controls. want to see where my new interest in photography will lead me to but at the moment, not considering to buy a dslr yet (unless price is right ) anyways, i was thinking maybe the panasonic lumix LX5 is the one to go for? luv the retro-ish design n the manual controls. but of coz i do wish it comes with higher megapixel, full HD video instead of HD & further zooming. So perhaps you camera kaki's here got better recommendations. I guess my budget will be abt (rm1.6k+).

Type of camera/lens/accesories:  'semipro'/ compact with manual controls (aperture/shutter priority)/ dslr (if my budget allows)
[B]Budget: RM1.6k+
[B]Your Location:
  Penang Island
[B]Preferable brand : Open to all brands janji camera bagus
[B]Type of photography u want to do : new in photography, so i would say an all rounder shooting
[B]Any specific models in mind? : Panasonic Lumix LX5
[B]Any specific features u want? : Full HD (1080) video recording, manual controls.

Thanks!

Btw, RM1.6K can get you Canon,Sony or Nikon entry level DSLR already. So you might want to think twice? smile.gif

Hi guys need help here
Type : compact/semi-pro
Budget : 1k - 1.5k
Your Location : PJ, subang (Please recommend place to purchase as well =))
Type of photography : potrait/landscape prefer smthg tat can take gud pics in low light condition (night mode)

Pls help me chose between the lumix lx3 or lumix tz-10 and also the sony wx5..i have tried all and all are great..just cant decide to buy which one
*
Specifications wise, LX3 is better than the other 2 since it's positioned as a "higher end" camera.

Anyway, LX3 is old and already replaced by the LX5. Canon also has the awesome S95 which is pocketable yet, deliver good results. Both are awesome stuff

Else, there's the Olympus XZ-1 iinm, with has slightly better specs than the two. But function/ergonomics wise, I can't say much since I've yet to test it personally. But reviews seems promising!

For your first recommendation:

First of all, what is it that you seek from a camera? You're mentioning many models there... smile.gif

And if you should also allocate budget for lens purchases.Let's say 60:40 for DSLR:Lens

Second recommendation: LX5 is not an interchangeable camera while the rest are. I'd suggest you get a cheaper PnS instead?

Type of camera/lens/accesories : DSLR
Budget: RM 3000 max with lens
Your Location: Penang / KL
Preferable brand : Canon / Nikon
Type of photography u want to do : New to photography, so an all rounder shooting type.
Any specific models in mind? : Nikon D90 with AF-S DX Nikkor 18-105mm lens, Nikon D3100, or Canon 550D
Any specific features u want? : Good picture quality. Video got Full HD or not tak pa.

This is my first DSLR. Do research and ask friends, they told me buy D90, says that i wont regret. But I'm a beginner, maybe D90 too good for me. So might as well ask sifu here.
D90 already 2 years old, will there be a replacement shortly ?? Still worth to buy it ??
Is D3100 really that bad compare to D90. Research i found is D3100 got limitation of lens, so very hard to get lens ?? If D3100 + AF-S DX Nikkor 18-105mm, is it ok for all round shooting ??
Thanks in advance.

You might try get Canon 550D or wait for its successor 600D to release. I like Canon's natural colors photo

whats the difference between body with kits and body without kits?
With kits, means that you have some basic lens to get started. Unless you want to fork out extra cash for better lens, you better stick with lens as a starter

any new model DSLR coming out?
Canon 600D and Canon 1100D

should i top up my budget to get better ones?
Get a better lens when you get better with it

i heard that the shutter got lifespan is it true?
Yes. You can send it back for service at its service center for a price

which guide will best for me to read about DSLR?
I reckon you try it out at the shop if you dun understand the DSLR's terminology

I suggest try to learn more about photography before venturing into DSLR. Or else u end up coming out alot of money and disappointed of the quality. Maybe try it at the shop or hangout with some friends with DSLR. Play with it learn it then if u think u are serious only get it.

If you are more into HDR, I assume you love colors with great definition. I recommend you get a Nikon D7000. However, due to you budget, I guess I can recommend D5000 instead. D90 is good but it's quite old and D5000 is on par with it with more added features

Dear sifus,

I'm looking for a camera capable of taking macro shots and is easy to carry around during field trips. After asking several sifus, the recommended models are Canon G12 and Panasonic Lumix LX5. I'm not very knowledgeable in this aspect so I was wondering whether you guys could give some feedbacks on this 2 models. Or are there any alternatives? Budget is around 2k nod.gif

Thank you very much!! notworthy.gif notworthy.gif

For now [what is available now]
get canon 550d if you want photography [or canon 60d if you have extra budget] + videography or d90 is also a good choice.

Dslr is something you can have a full control of the outcome. So the question "can shoot very clear photo?" is irrelevant... even phone camera can snap clear photo.

or if you want to just snap "clear photo", I suggest you go for compact camera Lx5 or s95 is a good choice to begin with. I mean having a dslr but if you're intending to just use auto mode then... compact is easier on the wallet and usage and also well compact should probably give you the hint of "pocket-able"
