I have 1 noob question, what if the DIR615 died after the 1 years warranty given?

Can we just buy a router out there and installed?

Newbie in Unifi.
Just newly installed.

Currently the cheapest option is to buy TP-Link TL-WR841N/ND ver7.x, option 4 here

Lets hope we have more option when the time comes. smile.gif

thanks,

What the requirement for the router enable to hook up with the BTU, apart from PPPOE?

I see little different with set up with streamyx

Streamyx : Modem --> Router (PPPOE) --> PC
Unifi : BTU --> DIR615 --> PC

the btu functions similar to the modem...

the dir615 has a MAIN FUNCTION APPLICATION TO UNIFI.. SPLIT the VLAN to INTERNET and DATA

the BTU actually got also SPLIT VLAN200 for the voice smile.gif

you just need something to bridge out vlan500(internet) and vlan600(iptv)

any device will do.. but for me mikrotik does it best smile.gif + tons of features

Thanks, it means basic requirement is to have a router that can vlan500
Biz 5 doesn't have IPTV, only concern about the internet.

I see in the BTU got VLan1, VLan2, VLan3, what is that for?

UniFi uses the following vlans:
vlan.400 = VOIP (handle directly by the BTU)
vlan.500 = Internet PPPoE (handle by DIR-615)
vlan.600 = IPTV (also by DIR-615)

Since you don't use IPTV, beside the 4 options, you may also consider flashing DD-WRT router, prefer Atheros, but definitely not Broadcom chip!

ok, whether u like it or not... u need a LAN device that can do VLAN 500,600. The options is explained in my & other members previous post. smile.gif

VLAN400 is handled by BTU alone so dont bother...

cheers.

Have you contacted TM?

Unless you changed username/password there shouldn't be much reason for it not connecting apart from any problems on TMs side sad.gif

Try using 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 for your DNS in ur network adapter, i facing same issues as you actually.

Thanks for the replies... Didn't work... I thought changing the DNS is for faster surfing / internet speed or something... not sure... I'm not IT savvy smile.gif Well... I think there's something wrong with TM's side then... gotta call them up... thanks again biggrin.gif

Try not to place wifi around TV & electronic items, it will affect the signal quality.  It would be worst if near Astro box, especially Beyond.  Try to place the wifi on top of cabinet or something, somewhere middle of house/living hall, try avoid concrete wall blocking, metal and electronic items.

wat if i put VDSL and router under TV and astro?

I had exactly that problem earlier, they put my house number as floor number also.

When you reach that page where u can click ur add and next, choose search again instead, then search like normal and choose ur address.

I emailed them and they called me the next morning to explain how to do it.

For VDSL should be ok, but I really don't think it's good idea for wifi router.....

Long ago I tried to place Buffalo WHR-G300N wifi router in between Beyond & TV, the signal somehow is really bad.
At first I though it was the router issue, then tested Buffalo WCR-GN, Buffalo WHR-HP-G300N, ASUS RT-N12, all having similar issue.
Then I tried to place it few feets away from Beyond & TV area on a cabinet next to it, then the signal become better!

Of these routers:
WHR-G300N (Ralink - same with TM's DIR-615)
WCR-GN (Ralink)
WHR-HP-G300N (Atheros)
ASUS RT-N12 (Broadcom)

I noticed that 2 Ralink is the worst, Atheros better, Broadcom seem less affected.
Could it be the chip, brand, design, radiation, etc ? I really have no idea ..... rclxub.gif

In addition, I also encountered few cases when I put my mobile phone next to Beyond box, the TV image disrupted intermittently when my phone ring.

As all these things somehow connect wirelessly, not to implicate the issue further, that's why I always put wireless away from other electronic items for better reception. smile.gif

Anywhere, you may want to try both underneath or away, then let us know the result !

Don't worry, I have the same problem as you. I am sure my area got Unifi already (I called their number), but when I tried to apply online (to qualify for the 1 month subscription free), they say that my area is not covered!

So what I did today is to call their number up (1800-88-1222, wait 10 minutes for their operators to be free), and mention that you are trying to apply online. They transfered me to their technical team I think, they helped me to apply, and I still get the 1 month subscription free, as if I apply online!  rclxms.gif

I hope they will keep their word, in my first bill should deduct off my first month bill...

Late reply but, you gave me the wrong phone number. I actually called before checking again on Unifi's website. Anyway, today morning their website suddenly have my road name and address registered so I'll just directly apply online.

welcome on broad bro.

Im also just got my unifi installed this Wednesday. smile.gif

next question: have you terminate your homeline + streamyx?

its seems that, even you have ticked to terminate your streamyx + homeline in the unifi form, its will take 2 weeks to complete the process as advised by unifi call centre...

if you want a speedly termination, go to TMpoint is the only channel / way to effect the termination within few days.

ps: you have to return the Telekom phone set if you're terminate your old telephone line. (that if you wish not to keep the old number)

Anyone know how to set up the Set Top Box?

I have my UNIFI installed 3 weeks ago and I didn't set up the set top box because it will require a long wiring down to the living room from my room. Therefore, I've told the UNIFI contractor to just leave the STB aside first.

Now I realize that I can actually plug in to my monitor through HDMI cable. I just wonder can I set it up myself because I can't get through the login page.
