Don't worry, I have the same problem as you. I am sure my area got Unifi already (I called their number), but when I tried to apply online (to qualify for the 1 month subscription free), they say that my area is not covered!

So what I did today is to call their number up (1800-88-1222, wait 10 minutes for their operators to be free), and mention that you are trying to apply online. They transfered me to their technical team I think, they helped me to apply, and I still get the 1 month subscription free, as if I apply online!  rclxms.gif

I hope they will keep their word, in my first bill should deduct off my first month bill...

Hello all, I applied for Unifi and they are coming to install on the 19th. I would like to ask a few questions :-

1) If all equipments installed in my living room near tv , will my room signal be ok?

2) Need to prepare anything ?

Thanks

Try not to place wifi around TV & electronic items, it will affect the signal quality. It would be worst if near Astro box, especially Beyond. Try to place the wifi on top of cabinet or something, somewhere middle of house/living hall, try avoid concrete wall blocking, metal and electronic items.

By default TM will be giving you all the necessary equipments to enjoy the service. If you want stability and better performance then you will need to get your own router and follow riz's guide.

Btw, since you own both models, which one would you recommend for a typical user? My guess is RB250?

Anywhere, I still think RB750 (same price with RB250GS) is the best choice !

no I have only 1 RB750G, which is from Landasan.

Well then, I already got the RB250GS from u, but I went to Landasan to get RB750G since b4 that it is USD 17(now its 10USD) shipping from Solition for 1 unit. thats about RM21 higher than now. So it wouldnt make any different to buy it from Landasan directly for RM280.

but now.... RM30 lol Well I can say I am not lucky haha. Anyway guys. it is a pretty good router even I got it more exp for Rm280. It s a pretty good router.

I started with RB250GS, then RB750 & RB750G.
My comment:

For RB250GS
- almost no change to your current network setup
- just connect any of your current WAN router, change PPPoE user ID & password
- then enjoy !

For RB750/750G
- it's full fledged router gateway, advance users and complex network will appreciate this
- may need to change network setting to suite your current setup
- for junior (like me), need some R&D effort to setup proper firewall, port-forward, QoS, etc ....

For me, I still prefer RB750, I don't think i'm going to have over 100MB load on internet side on next few years, also it's lesser heat compare to RB750G.
For LAN speed concern, can spend another RM100 something to throw in a 8-port gigabit switch for LAN transfer/streaming! smile.gif

Hey guys, figured I'd just ask here since I don't want to start up a new thread.

My office is currently using the UnifiBiz 20 package, and right now we've implemented the DIR-as-bridge method to use our own router. However we feel that this solution is not very good, since we have 1 too many failure points as it is. What kind of router can be used together with the ZTE GPON? Are we just restricted to the DIR, that Mikrotik, and the TP-Link ones mentioned in this thread? Thanks.

Any device, as long as it can handle vlan 500 tagging

I believe these replacement options:
http://klseet.com/index.php?option=com_con...id=42&Itemid=39
are more cost effective than those higher end Cisco, HP, etc.

If you are not happy with DIR-615 for office, you may consider MikroTik RB750/750G.

Thanks, but I have been trying to find out that with RB250 and RB750 performance wise is it almost identical?

Actually, what I think is that for a typical user who only looks for replacement and a little bit of control on network like QoS, port forwarding, etc is best to go with RB250GS. Am I right to think that?

Yes, you will get DIR 615. To be precise, most likely you will get DIR 615 G2 flashed with 7.09 firmware I think.

I am not sure what kind of power usage u are gonna be in. but I think the RB250GS more than suffecient to serve as a bridge if u have better router behind it.

Power users would probably more appreciate to use any commercial routers or RB750/RB750G or even RB450G. Its really depends on usage.

RB250GS = Basic replacement for DIR-615.
RB750 = Same price as RB750GS, but it is a full fledge router with tons of advance technical featurers using Router OS. Downside it has older CPU than RB750G and it is not gigabit lan.

RB750G = Same as RB750, just better CPU + gigabit. IMO power users would probably like this option.
RB450G = it is a next level of RB750G with 128MB RAM.

those RouterOS may sounds and look scary from setting up for average user, but with dummy guides from klseet, it shouldnt be hard. Right the only missing part is a dummy guide for port forward, QoS, filtering, firewall etc. It might get tricky for average user to try understand from Mikrotik wiki site.

hahaha, it's indeed still dummy ! biggrin.gif
looking at those MikroTik wiki even make me more dummyx2 ! sweat.gif

I've been playing with couple of things, still not sure how it work, currently I'm using the following basic firewall & port-forward setup:
http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Manual:IP/Firewall/Filter
http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Forwarding_a..._an_internal_IP
will post some setup images soon.

As for QoS, i tested setup using Layer7 (apps level header marking) but i'm not sure whether it would over-kill or not for a home user ....
http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Basic_traffi...yer-7_protocols
http://l7-filter.sourceforge.net/protocols
this setting seem to improve on QoS according to my priority, but at the expense of CPU load between 20~40%, especially when i start torrenting .... unsure.gif
also i'm concern continuous needs to update L7 filter protocol ....

That helped quite a bit. I'm just trying to avoid paying extra features I don't really need.

Thanks smile.gif
