ok then, i am a single male, then we be PR and get married asap so we can both buy a HDB flat and save on rental tongue.gif (joking).

anyway, becoming a PR is definitely yes for me, but its just a matter of time. Coz after i become PR, i can't ride my Malaysian bike to work anymore and need to buy a Singapore bike. My Malaysian bike is just 2 months old. I got it new when i move to JB in december. So i think i need to wait at least another 2-3 years before i will get another new bike.

hi again lester, so now that u use the bike, how is it? what's the time taken like? i recall u used to take public only before? and also ur work place is near the border right?

My house is in Taman Ehsan Jaya (16KM from Causeway) and office is in Yio Chu Kang (around 15KM from causeway)

For JB to SG in the morning, its really depends on ur luck. coz when we enter from JB-SG, there are 4 side that we can queue to pass the immigration, there is 2 side that is very fast (1 side is for BIKES). another 2 side is slow. let say if i am lucky and those ICA police didn't halau us to the other side, then i can reach office less than 1 hour from my house. But if unlucky, then it will take around 1 hour 15 mins to 1 hour 30 mins depends on traffic. yesterday i leave house at 7:30am, reach office at 8:25am. Today leave home at 7:30am, reach office around 8:20am. If u leave home at 7:30am, definitely won't be late.

For SG-JB in the evening, same thing, there is 4 side to pass the immigration, depends on luck as well. 1 side is only for Singaporean, PR and registered BIKES user only. If you travel by bike very frequent, can go and do the BIKES thing in the immigration but they are only open in office hours. same like morning, 2 side fast (1 side is BIKES), 2 side slow, if got to the slow section, will reach home around 7:15pm lo. If got the fast section, can reach around 6:50pm. I off work at 6pm.

Public transport is only testing la, last time bcoz i stay in SG ma, don't have bike, so went to my friend house in Taman Sentosa and try to travel to work with Bus, leave his house at 5:30am and reach Kranji MRT at 7am. To me, its a waste of time, better travel by bike. But my friend say he don't like the smoke smell, blah blah blah (as usual la, those people that are grown in a pampered family, sure cannot tahan this, tahan that 1). then he decided to take bus. If you ask me, i think u sleep less 1 hour a day will do more harm then inhaling those smoke for 15 mins when u are on the queue. moreover, if u went to the slow section, there will be police there to scold those people that didn't turn off their engine when they are on the queue, so most people will be eating breakfast, reading newspaper when they are queuing on the slow section and the air is very fresh (morning ma).

Overall, if u let me choose again, i will still choose to stay in JB coz last time when i stay in Sembawang, if i work at 9am, i need to leave my house at 8:10am as well. So i only need to leave home 40 mins early and i get to have my own transport, i can keep my Malaysian car in JB so i can go back KL whenever i like and don't have to squeeze with those people in MRT in the morning.
*
All this talk is starting to make me consider the bike again. the only thing stopping me is that i'm required to travel extensively and there is a problem of me bringing some equipments i might need to bring along as well and also problem of me going to the airport in singapore. sometimes it is early in the morning and it would be too risky to take the public to the airport which is so far away from the border. :-(

option, find a different job! :-)

With EP you can use the Automated Gate via scanning your passport. Very convenient.

Yes to the white card.

Hi reign226, what is this about EP use Automated Gate via scanning your passport? I understand Malaysians can use it on Malaysia side. But on the Singapore side, if EP can use? Please explain. I've been holding EP for the past 7 months and never use the Automatic Gate at Singapore side. blush.gif

I realize many EP holders don't know this. Next time you want to enter/exit singapore and there is an Automated Clearance Gate lane, just go in, insert your passport into the reader, step into the console for your thumbprint and you can be off your way.

The gates are usually always clear. Greatly speed up the entry/exit process.
*
I actually tried it before I got my EP and I made a fool of myself n the people behind me weren't amused. Everybody going in and out of Singapore is rushing. Never tried again after that.

So what your saying is with my EP, my passport is registered with them automatically and I can just use it similar like the one at the Malaysia side? I don't need to register anything?

Now I just feel stupid after 7+ months of going trough the normal gates. Thanks everyone. I think should put this notice at the first page. Important to cut those precious minutes.

me too. din't know can use the scanners.
but i still won't use it, cos even in Msia i have problem scanning my passport everytime.
SO dun wana embarased myself again either side.
*
What is the problem? It cannot verify? In my experience, I needed to press my thumb firmer on the scanner. you need to judge on the picture of the scan. if it looks too light, press harder. Hope that helps. I'm definitely gonna go to the scanner after this. Really save the precious minutes. However, I do not think it's right to look down on the normal gaters. I'll be grateful I guess.

Thanks.

Hm. How many times have you changed your passport? Did it all change numbers? It could have been the one you had previously under your parents name perhaps? I've only renewed once and both we're under my name so I'm only saying based on my experience.

About the passport number. My bad. Changes with every new passport issued.

Anyway, wondering if anybody is working with an Oil and Gas company in Singapore.

Spot on man. At first I did not realise this and was dying to come to SG like most people, lured by higher income, way of life, etc but I am begining to regret it now that I'm in SG. SG is always crowded irregardless of time. Try taking the mrt or going out for lunch/dinner and chances are you have to wait even in the food court coz limited space/seats. Cost of daily necessities are indeed cheaper than M'sia but if you factor in yr rent, utilities and other expenses, it would amount to be the same as KL. There is virtually zero chance of you owning HDB or condo before you hit 35 if you are a salaried person. (unless you come from rich family or are running a business). The working hours are longer in SG compared to M'sia and the kiasuism of people in work sometimes hamper the greater good of the company. (Everybody here only thinks of covering their @$$ instead of what's best for the co) While cars are technically cheaper than in Msia, dollar to dollar, the cost of maintaining the car is way higher, especially if you work in the CBD. SO if you're single, young and earning <SGD5000 like me, I suggest you to REALLY reconsider your decision. The only benefit of SG is for family people who are already senior mgmt with decent earning power (at least >SGD10K) who craves better education for their children, security and a better environment for their family. But if you're single and not settled down yet with earning <SGD5000 again consider Wisely. M'sia ain't that bad after all
*
car cheaper? not with the current COE price. LOL.

Aussie see your character and experience first b4 paper qualification since a large majority of aussie are graduates which is what differentiate a normal graduate.

Its not surprising to find out that the cabbie whom your riding in has a degree or even masters in chemical engineering but cant find a job in australia. So you think their gonna give you a job just because UM is accepted over there when a local who studies in a local university cant even get a job within his/her academic field?
*
I don't think they will give me a job just because I come from UM. But at least there's a chance because it is recognised. Not getting it but trying will still give me the fulfillment I desire. They're definitely not going to come knocking on my door. So I say to everybody, just go out there and give it a shot! At least you can truly say u've tried.
