Hi all,

Just got my PR approved few weeks ago biggrin.gif rclxm9.gif

Have a few questions hope someone could answer me

1) When you converting license from MY license to Sg license, must go take letter from JPJ. I heard if you go to Johor JPJ, they will cut your MY license before giving you the letter? Other state JPJ they do not cut your license and just give you the letter. Is that right?

2) According to SG police traffic/driving school, if you come to Singapore to work a period of time then only you get your MY license, you cannot convert already and you must retake the whole SG license which cost a lot of money. Anyone can advise?

3) Those surgery/disease insurance that use your CPF to pay a portion of the sum. Is it advisable to get those? Any recommendation which one good? Heard NTUC not bad...

Thanks notworthy.gif notworthy.gif

yup. JPJ will not cut. They will issue the letter and inside the letter they will ask LTA to cut.

2) According to SG police traffic/driving school, if you come to Singapore to work a period of time then only you get your MY license, you cannot convert already and you must retake the whole SG license which cost a lot of money. Anyone can advise?

Yes. you have to retake the whole test.

3) Those surgery/disease insurance that use your CPF to pay a portion of the sum. Is it advisable to get those? Any recommendation which one good? Heard NTUC not bad...

try get a hospitalization plan and critical illness plan

Hi Mackiddo thanks for your reply.

So in the end no matter what the MY license will be cut? Anyway to not cut the MY license because in certain state like Johor ....sometime see luck but heard of cases police don;t accept Singapore license...so if you get caught and you don't have MY license you are considered driving without license

For no 2, anyway to go around this...it is damn expensive and I believe alot of people is in this situation but not much people talk about this.....

Congratulations on successfully getting PR status, especially considering the current situation which involves general election.

A few of my colleagues applications didn't make it through, so was mine. Some are rejected based on very absurd reasons. So I'm kinda curious how do you get through. I hope you dont mind sharing some of your details here, so that other forum members could benefit from it. Many thanks.
1. How long have you been working and residing in sg?
2. What pass are you holding? Which industry are you from?
3. What's your highest education level obtained? From which university?
4. Is this your first attempt of getting PR?

Again, your help is very much appreciated.

1. almost 8 years already
2. EP ..working IT
3. degree from UK
4. 2nd time passed.

I think gotta write more how you have contributed to Singapore...like achievement part you can put charity or what you have done to work place because last time I was based in govertment school so easier to say what you have done ..

When I went to apply 2nd time, it was very little people at ICA office compared to first time ..so don;t know is it because of that

Also the difference from 1st time and 2nd time was I stayed in SG during the time fo 2nd application while first I was staying at JB

Hope those helps thumbup.gif

Quick question, if 1st round PR application has been rejected, is there a cooling period? If so, how long?

Forgot to add: How long do they take to revert after applying?

mine after 1 st time rejected, need 6 months

usually they say about 6 months or more but some got it faster or longer

You have to prove you got your MY license before you enter SG for long term(study or work). Letter from JPJ will show your pass date, that's what they look for.  So good luck if your EP or student pass start date is before your license pass date.

I have 2 wallet when driving across country, as PR have to show NIRC and Sg license while MY side is usually easier if you have a MYKad and your wallet don't have too much cash.

Darn...I came into Singapore very early in my age to work using work permit...looks like gone case for me....

But very funny one of my friend who came to SG to work (as industrial training) for quite some time then later on obtain his MY license....he can convert to SG license

I also heard they see the date on the letter which make some people say those uncle/runner outside JPJ if you give them few hundred ringgit can help to alter the date? Is there such things? tongue.gif

the good thing is LTA will not follow the JPJ instruction in the letter, so they will not cut your license.

as for No 2, there is really nothing much you could do about it besides taking the lesson and test in Sg. Just a rough estimation, it would cost you around SGD2K minimum if you were an experience driver (drive regularly in Msia before) and need only 1 tried to pass the test. If you are newbie then it'll cost a bomb if you keep failing. I've colleague that failed 5X and gave up eventually  tongue.gif

Thanks Mackiddo for reply...it is good if they dun cut....really Malaysia you will never know if you got stopped...

Meaning that staying in JB vs SG might play a big part of the decision making process eh?

think so ....but I have one friend stay at JB all the while also get his PR last time...so hmm.gif

also the achievement part also the difference from 1st time
