Hey guys, it's me again..

There are 3 type of food that cannot be eaten that I experience in SG while working here, it's just damn yucky:-

1) Chau Kuew Tiew (Why so sweet??.. put sugar ah to fry ah?)
2) 酸甘汁 aka lemon+plum drink - walao, it is too sour+abit of bitter! Cant compare to Malaysia's style
3) Tomyam - real yucky (Tomyam in SG is the worst).. Apparently, every hawker serve the same yucky tomyam.

BUT SG do serve good BKT and Kuey Chap (cannot be found in KL).

Just wanna share my experience b4 I go to bed. Bye.
*
Some of them put sweet sauce in their CKT which sucks big time.

I donno the sour plum drink coz i dont order it.

Thats coz they all get it from the same supplier. You want nice tom yam, goto a proper thai restaurant. and dont expect the superhot tomyam in kl made with chili paid. The singaporean pu$$y palate cant take it.

I for one prefer the clear and super pepper BKT compared to malaysias darker cousin. One thing singapore has which malaysia doesnt is kuey chap and a stall near mine has an excellent stall for kuey chap.

Dont expect good or even decent hawker food, its usually far or obscure. At least their western offerings is better, skinny pizza and handburger comes to mind for decent eats.

Do you notice?

mee soto at NSHW RM$3.00~RM$3.50.
mee soto at SG hawker S$2.50~S$3.

rental in SG 4~5 figure S$
rental in MY 3~4 figure RM$

1st priority for SG hawker is to survive. That include reduce cost, shorten cooking time,  increase sales volume etc.

Looks like they dont know the concept of prospering with their product. They might as well follow the china route and make counterfeit food products to be more profitable, dont mentioned that their food is any good.

Very not use to the black pepper Bak Kut Teh and generally I find SG food a bit sweet for my liking. Coming from KL I like it saltier maybe but still cannot understand the black peper BKT! Anyone can find Klang type BKT in SG pls post
*
If you like salty food with an added bonus of oily. eat out at beijing, nearly every food over there has to have the beijing signature, oily and salty. No wonder the china man loves his KFC, the best of both worlds.

I think theres one at loyang. its at the food centre which also has the famous briyani rice.

Mat Selamat Kedua?

He already Selamat Jalan liao!!back then...LOL...I'm still wondering how he got across into JB

He used a flotation device which consist of garbage bags and empty soda bottles to swim across during nightfall.

Its actually not that hard to get into singapore illegal from the coast during night fall.

no issue bringing pets cross the immigration since pets doesn't need a passport.

Bringing cats into malaysia no prob, bringing dogs is a diff story due to "double standards".

Singapore is rather ngiau about pets since they can be a vector for diseases like rabies.

singapore got 100 fat cats for each HDB already wo...  blush.gif  blush.gif

Not until that many, more like 10-20 cats her hdb.

Somemore when nobody is around, you can abuse them like tying nylon rope around their heads and bash them on concrete walls as a way of population control.

Seen some china worker near the dorms do this as "entertainment". Not like anybody gonna miss a stray cat.

haha so i was just exaggerating... but i like fat cats.... but when make *chut *chut sound, they don't bother wan... damn lansi.. too well fed already.  doh.gif
*
Of course lar. You give them your leftover chap fan food when their daily meals on consist of either dry pellet food or tin meat.

Singapore hdb cats are fed better then some africans for god sake. But there are some which are friendly to the point they just sleep right in the middle of the walking pathway.

But your clients are mainly singaporeans right.

If you have to handle international, then thats a diff story.

Btw, i dont like to handle certain clients from malaysia or china since they usually have the china man mentality and will ask me to cut corners. I prefer either japanese or koreans. By the book, and then some.

I went there. Lousy place. Sim Lim has more electronics stuff and at a cheaper price too. But Funan looks more upscale while Sim Lim looks like a gangster's version of Lowyat.
*
In singapore, due to it being upper middle class society, purchasing electronic goods should in a mall type environment rather then the "pasar malam" style, ah beng and ah tiong customer sales person which is SLS.

Too bad there isnt a newegg of singapore or malaysia. Good deals with free shipping and a good return policy.

Do they say, "Hey, dey ......." which is usually the first 2 words which come out of their mouths?

anyone here working in jurong shipyard? perhaps can share some working experience here..  tongue.gif
i have the offer, but seems their basic paid abit low where i have around 3-4 years working experience although is not related to shipyard.
*
I used do direct owner jobs in jurong shipyard, and i emphazied the word "used" since as my previous colleague put it. Going into jurong shipyard is vomit blood at the security gate all the way to contract department, rinse and repeat.

Jurong shipyard is famous for having a farked up attitude to both contractors and ship owners, one SBM ship owner once commented "Since they want 2 play funny with us, we will give them a hell of a time."

QUOTE(melancholy @ Jan 10 2011, 05:26 PM)
Hi, I was browsing around this thread, and have been more or less a "stalker" of this forums for quite some time (lol). I'm interested in the lobang you have. I have 1 yr's work experience in operations and customer service (not exclusively). Diploma graduate from a Singaporean poly. Is it ok for me to know more about your lobang? Could we perhaps correspond by e-mail or this forum's PM function? I'd just like to know more about the role. Previous industry was in childcare (quit mainly because I did not want to further my career in the childcare industry). Also, I commute daily (or at least, when I was working and schooling, I commuted daily). Staying in Pasir Gudang (very far, I know!!) I intend to further my studies this year via part-time degree, and am really lost about living arrangements. My last job was a 1 month temp at Alexandra Rd, so I commuted via KTM (*shivers at the memory*) because Tanjong Pagar was nearest to my ex-workplace. Woke up at 4 am in the morning EVERYDAY, and reached home the EARLIEST at 9.30 everyday. And THAT is during the lucky days the KTM services decided to run a little earlier.

So anyway, I'm currently fervently looking for a job ASAP (I don't mind temp as long as it's full time) as well as advice by the rest of you guys on how you manage your living and travel arrangements. What I DO know is that it's crazy to wake up at 4am and reach home at 10 everyday (my temp job was for 1 month, so for that 1 month, I functioned on espresso and coffee. LOTS of it.)

Thanks in advance smile.gif

And it has such a reputation for good reasons too- it's a veritable Pirate's haven. No noob ever goes in to Sim Lim and makes it out alive. In other words, you'd have to be extremely knowledgeable about the prices and what you're looking for, or else people there will most certainly fleece you of your money. It has happened countless times to many victims- do a search on Sim Lim's notoriety online and you'll get what I mean.

NEVER go there if you don't know nuts about what you want to buy. On the other hand, if you're very well versed with what you want and know how to bargain... then Sim Lim would be a very good place for bargains, especially computer parts, assuming you manage to make your way to the legitimate shops that don't pester you with sales and who actually stock quality products. And make sure you ALWAYS ASK FOR YOUR WARRANTY. Oh, yes, you should also know how to liaise with people from the... err... somewhat lower echelons of society. It's infested with Bengs there, so, if you're easily intimidated... then good luck to you.

PS: This is for Sim Lim Square (SLS), the big building near Queen St.

I don't know about Funan, but it's more organized and I think the sales people are a lot more mild there. Only been to Funan once, lol...
PS: If you don't already know, electronics in SG are (generally) slightly cheaper than in Msia, though for some reason, DSLRs and lenses are cheaper in Msia. So not much reason to go out of your way to either country if you're not already in one of them.
*
Can you still bargain the prices down for individual pc components with retailers like fuwell or bizgram?

I usually bargain when im at the IT fairs since its a given that the floor staff are expecting haggling but at a retail outlet?

Hi all, may I know what are good answers to this interview question, "Why do you choose to work in Singapore?"

Thanks.
*
You mean the answer which best tricks the interviewer into believing that you are valid candidate for the job rather then just telling what you think and want?
