As long as you have the funds to do so.

No restrictions pertaining to resdiency status.
*
No, there is restriction. PR buying landed house and condo/apartment below 4~5 floor (can't remember) need special approval, negative by default.

care to share how long ago was that? they are really limiting pr approvals... but i hope the low birth rate news will loosen the requirements  biggrin.gif

My son got his PR ~Aug 2010

Wrong, GE coming GOV only wants Singaporean and not PRs. SG babies don't need PR application. Instead ang pow, 4 months leave etc is waitting for SG babies. If your babies are PR, some company only give paid maternity leave of 2 months for up to two confinment(two delivery) only. Mother have to apply no pay leave or take MC/hospital leave for the 3rd kids onward. That's why most PR only have 2 kids unless the wife don't have to work.

When I renew my re-rentry permit, the officer just click on the screen and tell me how many times I leave the country and for how long I was away. I was away for a long time so they only renew 3 years for me instead of 5 or 10 years last time. Now maximum re-rentry permit renewal is 5 years.

SG wants as many PR to convert as they are mostly well educated and earning good money. Most PR thanks SG for the education/work opportunity the SG gov provided. SO, what is the chance for these converted PR to support the current GOV wink.gif They also want these PR to integrate to the local society before they convert. So what is the chance for SG gov to grant PR to a person who stay in JB and spent very little time with the local society wink.gif ( Lets say SG gave those who work in SG stay in JB voting right, will these people even bother to vote at all?)

Heres another brochure. Noticed how it depicts the guy whose sitting on the floor is much happier then the guy who has a proper seat? I wonder which fella made this since it just doesnt make much common sense. Instead of malaysia boleh, singapore pun boleh juga.
*
All because of COE and to help SME make more money.

In the brochure, person sitting down on the floor would have lower Center of gravity (CG) than those who sit on somthing (thus higher). Tendency of falling out is higher for those with higher CG.... Having said that, I must say that allowing people to sit behind truck without seat and seat belt is not a good policy. Even the school bus have indivisual seat belt.

Then again, many SG male will have chace to sit behind truck when they serve NS right?

My guess is company/gov will do background check (including loan, criminal etc) for some jobs such as those than can "touch" company money.

IIRC, I had police report for my PR application.

hi guys, wanna know how do you guys feel about working in kranji, paya lebar and lavender?
I attended 3 interviews today and they all offer me the position but i told them i need to consider for couple of days. All of them offer almost the same salary. Now i only concern about the working place and living place. i quite concern about living environment and comfort like i am living in tampines i personally like it alot. so can you guys give comments for above three areas(and nearest district)? which do you think its best for living?
*
what do you like?

1) Nature and JB -- Kranji. Near to lim chu kang, Sg. buluh, Bt.Gombak etc. More Green over there.
2) City and Express bus terminal -- Lavender. Can walk over to buy bus ticket etc. Near to shoping area etc.
3) Condo, Apartment, Kampung, Car -- Paya Lebar. More condo/landed house there. Kampung Melayu, Lots of car dealer and workshops there. Due to the near by air force base. You don't see a lot of high buiding as compare to other areas.

you may want to consider the rental rate of these area.

??? why resign? have you consider the long term prospect in SG?

salary increment is better in SG. Don't just look at current salary.

uh....read my earlier post? i didnt say i am leaving SG...just hate it when get taxed then alot of procedures to follow up to get back the money...
*
if you still stay in SG and continue to work in SG then why need to get back the taxed money (unless you really work less than 180+ day within a year). Just find another jobs and IRAS will compute your tax base on your total annual income.

Added on January 27, 2011, 4:18 pmalso, why worry about paying tax while you are having a good paying job. I will be sad if I work for years and not contribute any income tax becouse my annual income is still within the "tax free zone". I was happy when I got taxed for the first time.

Just went to my favourite moneychanger in Ipoh to exchange some cash at 2.34 (+0.01 above their board rate). Feeling curious, I logged onto Maybank2U.sg and for Regionlink transfer to Maybank MY accounts, they are giving a rate of 2.369. So I immediately transferred again online. Transaction fee is a flat S$15 and max amount is S$20K. Same day credit into Maybank MY account. Looks like Maybank has a pretty good deal right now.

Added on February 2, 2011, 2:22 pmShould be okay, especially if you can easily show them that the stuff is not new or used. Your new EP or WP is solid evidence that you're moving to Singapore, hence transporting a lot of personal belongings.
*
Was in Melaka. I went to hong leong, want to deposit SGD to RM account, they said they don't do forex, ask me to buy RM from money changer. Keep saying outside rate is better than bank rate. Fine, I walk across to HSBC, they also refuse to change my SGD cash to RM, can only to online transfer from my SG account to their local account. Finally I walk to Maybank, they have a counter doing overseas investment. They give me 2.359 no extra charges, I take. Bring the RM cash back to Hong Leong bank and told them "In festive season like CNY, most if not all money changer will sure KETUK you but not the bank, so bank rate will be the best bet at this time!"

I saw 2.32 at JB counter on my way home.

There is a link to BOE Malaysia, see if your degree was listed on BOM website.

Didnt read wat was on the page doh.gif

"IES is the Singapore signatory to the Washington Accord with effect from June 2006. The Washington Accord is an international agreement which provides a mechanism for mutual recognition of the substantial equivalence of engineering academic programmes in satisfying the academic requirements for the practice of engineering at the professional level."

Since BEM also signatory to the Washington Accord, as long as your course( and which year) was listed then you should be fine. Show your boss the print out or write email to IES to confirm.

harlo.. need 2 ask for opinion, recently i complained i had to go to work on weekends and i am facing difficulty getting cab, so my boss says he will get me a new 325i but i have to forfeit my this year's bonus (5 figures) so i was thinking is this worth it? i can have the car for 10 years if i am still in the company, but on and off he will surely ask me to fetch ppl. maintenance by company ins, erp and fuel self. btw, company is very chinaman, i am sure i will be made to work hard for it. i dont have sg license yet and i have been here more than a year.
*
I am not sure I read this correctly : Boss can reduce company tax by buy buying company car and get a free driver cum weekend worker. Will you be able to use the car just like your own car (driving to Malaysia)? They pay the insurance but there is still time and money needed to maintain a well running car. Call a cab on every weekend is still cheaper than maintaining the car.

Do you like Bike?

Get a letter from JPJ then convert your driving licence to life time international SG driving licence. You just need to sit for a computer MCQ test.

you sure cut a hole on your pocket once you have that car. think twice, will you get net income from this deal. Change are you will spend much more for the convinient you get.

But if your jobs really need to fetch people and be nice to them then can ask for monthly allowance to maintain the company car.

Tot have 4000cc taxi on the road?

Added on February 10, 2011, 3:35 pmyou can transfer NCD discount from malaysia to SG. So start building up your NCD. Just register your family member's car insurance to your name. maximum 50% discount.

Depend on who you deal with JPJ to get the letter, sometime they will cut your MY licence on the spot.

yea, the depreciation of the car p.a. is already 1/2 my p.a. salary... not all the time i have to fetch, only ppl that my boss dont wanna see then i have to fetch those kind of ppl

so far only 2.5L cabs lor... 4L?

i had a few cars in US but non in msia before, all under family's name
blacklist then what will happen? convert means will lose msian license?

i have got US, msian and indo licenses... can i convert the indo license instead?

if show sg license sure cannot run away from saman or roadblock 1
*
Can you get back your bonus if you leave the current company in near future?

Pick-up, Tour etc all can out source: 6L engine
http://www.limousinecab.com/singapore/chrysler-cab/

If you have US (International) driving licence then just use that to "apply" a SG driving licence. Try US ambassy to get the letter. Indon licence have to be translated to english, extra work.

Don't know about sarawak. Visit the airport, see how groups of worker bring big TV, HiFi etc back to their home country. You must have faith with the malaysian airport ground crew and your packing skill.

me too. din't know can use the scanners.
but i still won't use it, cos even in Msia i have problem scanning my passport everytime.
SO dun wana embarased myself again either side.
*
Different world lah.

You know the level of techonology and service of MY gov don't you?

MY side is reading the "chip" in your passport while SG is using optical scanner to scan your passport first page and the software will pick up your info from the image then counter check with their database. If you have noting to do can try print-out the first page of your passport then insert it to the scanner, technically it should work too but you may have to drink coffee with the ICA officer later.

PR, social visit pass holder also can use the scanner. I remember I did thumb ( and another backup finger's print) registration years ago before I can use the scanner. Maybe your EP process does include the thumb print regustration.

The same scanner also available in Changi Airport and tuas. You may want to skip the scanner to get the rubber stamp on your passport when you travel to certain country as they are not so high tech and prefer to see actual custom stamps.

frankly speaking working in Singapore and whether you are comfortable with it depends on 2 things (1) which stage of life are you at and (2) smart enough to know where to get cheap and nice stuff.

.....
*
second that.

Why work here? It is not just the Sing dollar but the working environment itself.

When working, every one in SG is looking at the actual performance, not just talk. Fair opportunity for all and rewards goes to person who deserved it. The benchmark, requirement and performance evaluation is quite clear, nothing personal( or colour). The resources and opportunity to grow your career also available in the system. It is common to see people working full time and doing their part-time degree/master in one of the local Uni ( in the city of Singapore!). You hardly find one private/public employer that don't accept a SG local Uni degree, I can't say the same for MY.

Don't just work for money, must think of the opportunity for upgrading.

When you are new here (mostly single) you need some time to adjust yourself. The process can be boring for some.

When you have family later and assumed you and your wife income had incresed, the combine income should be enough for a comfortable life. SG is quite good for family life, you just have to manage your expectation. Do you really need a maid, 5 room HDB and 7 seater MPV just to have a baby?

Don't simply say. UM supporter here. Already working and even considering Australia where UM also accepted.  rclxm9.gif

I dare to say my uni which have higher ranking than UM also have quality issue. No one is perfect all the time. One who never admit quality problem will never take action to improve, they just celebrate when the ranking drop to 100, then 200 then xxx. Same goes to the few organization in MY that say "jangan cabar" but ignore the actual quality problem they faced.

Added on February 23, 2011, 2:47 pmA true supporter will wish for improvement. Ignoring problem and silent opposite opinion are the last things to do.
