Why don't those who are unsure go check out the difference between LCD, Plasma, and LED with their own eyes? 9 out of 10 of my walk-in customers tell me LCD is better because they hear people telling them that. I have these TVs put side-by-side with default settings. Without telling which TV is which, I ask them to choose the one they think is LCD. Most of them will mistaken Plasma as LCD because they like the PQ of Plasma better. That say, at the end of the day it boils down to your own preference. Maybe you like the bright colour of LCD which to some is tiring to look at for long hours. Maybe you like the natural colour of Plasma. Maybe you like to show off to your guests how thin your LED TV hung on your wall is. You really have to do your own comparison as everyone's likings are different.

9 out of 10? Surely can't be that much because I thought worldwide sales figures is in favor of the LCD?

IMO, 9 out of 10 who walk into a store doing not much study and analysis will pick the LCD.

On the other hand, those who really takes their time like carefully watching each and every TV available for long time....say....solid 10 minutes on 1 TV instead of just glancing it may pick the Plasma. And the TV programs are mainly movies (especially movies with dark scene) and not cartoon or games. Ya, I suppose I am talking about picky customer like myself.

BTW, I recently went into a store with lots of naturally sunlight coming in, the LCD looks much much better than Plasma. And this is coming from a person who is 100% Plasma follower.

Now LED is much much better than LCD.

Yes, LED is much better than LCD but so much more expensive. A lot of things boil down to budget.

I had the same question too...
ended up with an LCD LED

Plasma was not for me because :

1) Reflection on the screen ( Plasma good for dark rooms )
2) Energy consumption is higher
3) Heavier
*
Ya, the major disadvantage of Plasma are screen reflectiveness and energy consumption (need better ventilation because it can get pretty hot at the rear).

As for heavier, it's not a problem because I am not in the habit of moving my TV around everyday. Heck, I don't even move them once a year or 2 years or ......

Ultimately, for me, it boils down to what I wanted and how much I am willing to spend. I wanted best Picture Quality for movies, so it just have to be the Plasma and definitely not the LCD. Also I wanted to spend <RM4K for a 50", it again has to be a Plasma because LED will increase budget by 50%.

bro
where can get a 50inch plasma full HD less than 4k
what brand?
thank you
*
Yes, you can always get extended warranty from Panasonic themselves or buy extended insurance from any of those electrical shop selling you the TV. I prefers Panasonic own warranty (<RM300 for 3 years, making a total of 5 years).

Panasonic 50U Full HD is around RM3.5K to RM4K. Depending where you buy them from.

I got 2 LCD and one 50inch plasma in my house
for my personal opinion
if I got lots of money I will go for Led if I would like to show off to my fren that I got a ultra thin flat panel in my living hall
but I don like the picture in LED as it's too bright, the picture as if computer graphic
I feel comfortable in my theater room with the plasma tv
if you put plasma in living hall it's not that suitable as plasma tv works perfect in dim room
LCD works perfect in bright room
for gaming and movie in theater room
go for plasma
for gaming and movie in living hall
go for LCD
that's my personal opinion
finally it all depend our budget and personal preference
bear in mind that the brighter the tv goes, the shorter the life span
eventually you must look at the life span of the LCD or plasma
try to get extra warranty for the tv
my Phillis LCD got problem after 1 year
my plasma after one year still work perfect
luckily I got 3years warranty for my LCD
5 years warranty for my Panasonic 50inch plasma for just rm4750
Yap, that's the exact conclusion I came before I bought my Plasma because mine will be used 100% for movies/Astro/DVD and no gaming and I am typically free in the evening when the sun are down to watch them.

For room with lots of bright sunlight and to impress visitor, LED is definitely the better choice. So IMO, LCD is a neither here nor there choice.

Ya, it's a headache so I am running mine 24/7 continuously non-stop for the 7 or 8 days using break in program. I even have a tiny fan blowing it for extra ventilation. I reckon, if the TV gonna breaks, may as well break within 7 days to claim for 1 to 1 replacement.

Taken from Samsung FAQ

Break-In is the time period from when a Plasma set is brand new until the plasma phosphors have aged (or hardened), to a point where it is less susceptible to image retention (IR). Phosphors are their "hottest" when new. You may notice when passing by a new plasma set that it gives off a lot of heat but runs cooler after 100 or so hours of use. During this break-in period, burn-in can occur more easily.

I was told during the break in period, different mono-color video slides are used to ensure even aging of Phosphor. After the initial 100 - 200 hours, image retention will be reduced though not completely eliminated. But who got patience to wait 100 hours when you have a new toy?

Just use the plasma normally with no black bars or static images like PC content or logos for first 150-200hrs and you will be fine with orbiter (or equivalent) turned on
*
I couldn't find the pixel orbiter anywhere on my Panasonic 50U. Am I missing something?

No, I believe it on by default on the panny.

That is assuring. Thanks.

So am I being a paranoid having to try breaking in my new Plasma with mono-color slides? Or can I stop at 100 hours?
