I am also after a similarly priced laptop (<3K) with options for gaming and Lightroom 3 processing but it will be placed at home on my desk 99% of the time (opting for a laptop due to space constraints).

My question is, will any of the shortlist laptops listed by lee_what2004 be good enough if I intend to hook it up to an external monitor (approximate 22 inches +)? Or I must get a laptop with certain specs (i.e. graphics card) if it is to be used with a large 22 inches + monitor?

Thank you. In that case, I'll just opt for a 13" or 14" laptop since it'll be hooked to a bigger external monitor. Your shortlist is very beneficial too and I thank you.
