the sun is directing to him/her. so if he/she is taking a pic of a dude standing infront of him/her, the subject will most probably be covered in its own shadow. so a fill in flash is going to remove that. the way u said ''hahaha, pop up flash on FX.. really? lol'' is like u r indicating that the user dont know how to use the camera. its common nowadays. see a dude using a DSLR with a pop up flash, one would straightly jump into the conclusion that the user dont know how to use a camera. but dont be so fast to judge. and for the record, the D700 got no full auto mode
