You could get a RCA splitter, connect your dvd player audio out to TV and to Amplifier.

You will need two of this stuff. But for sure it's not good solution if you require high quality sound.

The first thing why you wanna use Amp is good sound + DTS/ DD surround

Why not connect the DVD player using Optical/Coaxial to the AMP to get surround + use the RCA to the TV for normal audio?

So The DVD player actually has 2 outs. One you Digital to the Amp...another one using RCA to the TV.

But minor problem will be when you play both TV and AMP, you need to lower the TV volume....its simple..just use the remote.

To get best result....

DVDP- RGB (Component) (the green-blue-red) --> TV component in (same colour)

DVDP - optical out ---> optical in (Amp)

DVDP - RCA (Mix out)(Red & White) ---> TV audio in (same input as the RGB) (same red/white colour)

Old AVRs will have the optical. This connection will require a Tos-link cable which you probably won't have.

It is more convenient to use the COAXIAL connection - the one under the green - a common RCA connection. Old AVRs will have surely have it.

Your amp is very old.?? No coaxial or optical in, otherwise DVD should use the coaxial/optical out to connect to amp. Simple solution is to use a Y cable to split the composite signal to TV/AMP....can buy at any electrnic shop. You just need 2 of those Y cables for (Left sound, Right sound).

The video u connect from DVDP component output to TV direct.

Indeed very old! biggrin.gif

I am surprised this 10 yr old AVR hasn' got optical or coaxial output. Maybe it's 15 yr old?

I am also surprised that the subwoofer ouput is labeled "pre-out" and not LFE.

My 12 yr old JVC has optical, coaxial, sub LFE and the phono input as well.

Play in...Video 1

Actually, if you got a DVD player has separate 5.1 channels, you can get 5.1 sound using the "DVD 6 Channel Input"

Example I'm using Dune with 5.1 multichannel (actually 7.1) output to my old skool amp like yours...I can even get HDaudio.

here is an example a DVD player with 5.1 Channel out:

You Amp pic isn't quite complete. Take a pic of the back again , this time more towards the left , the Radio antenna area. See if got any optical Input there.
