KUALA LUMPUR (Dow Jones)--Malaysia Prime Minister Najib Razak Tuesday announced new tax incentives to promote the domestic oil and gas sector as part of its plan to transform the country into an industrialized nation by 2020.
The incentives include an investment tax allowance of 60%-100% of capital expenditures to be deducted against statutory income to encourage the development of capital-intensive projects, reducing the tax rate to 25% for marginal oil field development from 38% and waiving export duties on oil produced and exported from marginal oil-field development.
"This initiative will potentially lead to additional petroleum revenue of over MYR50 billion for Malaysia over the next 20 years," Najib said in speech.
"There will be a notional tradeoff of MYR8.1 billion in the form of revenue foregone" in implementing the incentives, he said

HAHAHAH... even TheEdge starts to have some sense of humour nowadays.. Chicken war ends as QSR bids rejected Added on just wondering if a reduction in gas subsidy could be another blow to gloves.. » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 30 – National oil company Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas) will meet with the Economic Council in “the next two to three weeks” to review the gas subsidy borne by the group, which now reaches RM19 billion annually.
“Once and for all, we’re going to basically agree on how the new gas price is going to be established,” Petronas president and chief executive officer Datuk Shamsul Azhar Abbas told reporters today after announcing the group’s second quarter results.
“And that’s going to be critical, as far as Petronas is concerned, because we cannot afford subsidising to the tune of about RM19 billion every year in gas subsidy alone. That’s a huge amount,” he added.
Petronas, which also gives a RM30 billion as dividend payments to the government, subsidises gas for use by both power and non-power sectors.
Gas demand in Malaysia is primarily driven by the power sector, with 55 per cent of gas sales coming from the sector this quarter.
The non-power sector accounted for 38 per cent of total sales while the remaining 7 per cent was exported.
Last financial year, Petronas’ gas subsidy reached RM19 billion, or 9 per cent of total revenue. As of the first half this financial year, that amount stood at RM10.2 billion.
Cumulative subsidies borne by Petronas to date since gas price was fixed to the power sector in 1997 and the non-power sector in 2002 amount to RM126.6 billion.
“Hopefully, over the next few weeks, when we present our case to the Economic Council, they will agree with the proposal that’s been forwarded by Pemandu (Performance Management and Delivery Unit),” Shamsul added.
Under Pemandu’s gas subsidy rationalisation plan, the price of natural gas will be first raised by RM4.65 per mmbtu for the power sector and RM2.52 per mmbtu for the non-power sector.
The electricity tariff will be raised by 2.4 sen per kW/h and thereafter the price of natural gas will be increased by RM3 per mmbtu every six months.
With fuel costs being passed through to the customer, the price of electricity will also rise by 1.6 sen per kW/h every six months.

QUOTE(teehk_tee @ Dec 1 2010, 09:32 AM) lol i didnt expect it to jump like that so but now jump like that i become because dont know whats the next move. whole night thinking what price should i sell or should i hold until the actual BI. sorry newbie here.. i dunno much about KSeng. Perhaps looking at usual eps, pe, nav, dy can help u to decide. Mbb platform shows PE is 15, DY is 2% .. and this year's first 3Q eps ex special gain is lower if i'm not wrong.. it would be better if they give Cash out in this case imo.. is it mentioned what they plan to do with the cash ? with BI + cash in hand.. they could be planning for something... so, are u ready to hold and wait for the upcoming projects/investments to bear fruits? no recommendation here.. just some thoughts This post has been edited by mopster: Dec 1 2010, 09:42 AM

QUOTE(teehk_tee @ Dec 1 2010, 09:54 AM) thank you guruuuuu okay.. but if like this, then the EPS is diluted, .. becomes worse than share split? thanks for the feedback, but still don't quite understand the benefits of BI to shareholder. ah ya .. someone mentioned before the management kiam one lol hehe... yup EPS will be diluted.. divvy may be less.. but it's actually the same amount you get.. >.> imo, BI is good to shareholder when: ~they bought it at super low price.. for eg u bought Kseng at 4.00 ~company grows steadily post BI.. eg: Pre BI: 1000 shares, Profit 100M, 10c divvy Post BI: 1500 shares Profit 150M, 10c divvy... Added on aiyoh.. Bursa error ?? why KLCI one line down ... This post has been edited by mopster: Dec 1 2010, 10:10 AM

MBB ETP II -> O&G... QUOTE(teehk_tee @ Dec 1 2010, 10:44 AM) the "theory" is that when u suspect FF inflow, you can also suspect a strengthening RM, which feeds back into attracting further FF. FF inflow -> increase demand for RM. RM up -> increase attractiveness of returns by adding a forex gain. QUOTE(sharesa @ Dec 1 2010, 10:48 AM) this is my theory: When there's so many good news here, Ringgit climbs as they exchange their money to buy our currency & buy our shares, so shares also move up. When they think it's peak & news already stale, they start selling off their counters, exchange Ringgit back to their currency , which causes Ringgit to fall and they balik kampung. After this, they start another round. Besides that, somehow people park their money either to Yen or USD when there's some turmoil overseas oh.. ok.. understood.. thanks so things happen "concurrently"...
