very interested, how to get started?

so far i only know:

If you are interested in scanning stuff over the air, I would highly recommend you to get a Baofeng(usually RM 160 only, don't get scammed) which you could scan in the UHF range and VHF range.
VHF range is where all the HAM people are hanging out. UHF is where you can start to hear commercial stuff especially when you go to the 477MHz band.

It gets exciting once you first start to scan but after a week or so, you'll get bored of hearing random crane radio("ok naik! STOP! etc.) unless you are adventurous to go and scan more interesting stuff and record the frequencies like your local security frequency etc.

As for me, I have my own way of finding and identifying frequencies very fast including the type of encoding used(for data or digital).

My usage will be between indoor and outdoor, seem like UHF is better choice? unsure.gif

Yes encryption very important! Who wants strangers to join their private conversation? tongue.gif

Should beginner start with scanner? Maybe from there I can extend to amateur radio? hmm.gif

What's the walkie talkie that you would recommend with the criteria above?

Budget wise, just go with a Baofeng.
Encryption needs a digital radio. Those can cost more than a smart phone.
Even if you can do encryption, it is illegal to use encryption for citizen band or HAM band. tl;dr you can't encrypt it is against the law.

Scanner is also against the law. Just go with a Baofeng radio which can Tx and Rx while can still scan.

Just make sure not to save any frequencies that you are not supposed to have.

Spectrum violation can go up to RM 500,000 or 5 years or both(If I recall correctly)

Yep, looking at Baofeng, but so many models.
Not sure how to choose sweat.gif

But it seems like UV-5R is popular, can TX & RX?

If don't encrypt, is there other way to prevent strangers from listening/understanding?

So many rules and law, people like me who dunno law much habis la laugh.gif
