Just sitting here wishing somebody would put up a ham DMR repeater in KL.
*
We've put one experimental repeater last weekend but we've problem with it. It is hard to trigger the repeater, need to fine tune the RF part. The repeater is based on MMDVM and for now, it will be local only. Will announce it here when we get it up and running.

oh nice. Is it UHF or VHF?
Unfortunately I've never worked with MMDVM to offer any help. What hardware are you guys using?
*
It is UHF at the moment, and on the radio side, we're using a spare Yaesu DR1X repeater with MMDVM modem (http://mmdvm.blogspot.my/p/packages.html). Tested it working okay before it went up to the repeater site, guess with all other RF interference up there, the RF part becomes a bit deaf.

BTW, if you're interested in MMDVM, 9W2SVT (a maker enthusiast) is currently developing a hotspot which lets you communicate with hams around the world on DMR. You can see his work in FB group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/MYDigitalVoice/

Still having problems triggering the repeater? I MIGHT be able to try look at the configs.
Got my own hotspot recently and fixed a similar problem.
*
It was RF problem, not with mmdvm. We swapped the antenna with a 9m2rkl during a test and the 9m2rkl becomes deaf too and the experimental repeater was okay. Until we get someone to put a new antenna and cabling, the repeater is taken off-air.

I personally prefer DMR more since it is more widely accepted/used
Fusion, you have to be stuck with buying a Yeasu and their limited models for a fortune.
*
I hope there will be a DMR repeater up and running soon, the availability of cheaper China made DMR radios really incite the excitement all over the world. But to compare the cost, Yaesu has brought up 3 budget minded radios which support the wiresx and c4fm. The three models, one dualband handy and two single band mobile rigs cost around RM700 each, still within most budget non China made radios.

The ft70dr is much better than the bug ridden tyt md2017 smile.gif

Freq: 433.550MHz
Color Code: 1
Static TG: 5021

I thought u need it for diverting lighting current flow to earth?
*
You don't ground the antenna, you may want to ground the antenna mast but, lightning loves the fastest way to reach the ground and your mast probably will attract lightning more than before smile.gif Get a lightning arrester if you want to protect your equipment. I grounded my mast and I've arrester inline with my feed line. The best protection is always disconnect your equipment when you're not using it. I've a gateway radio running 24x7, and I had hit by lightning before, not direct hit though on my radio but my HF set went kaput along with my TV, and astro decoder. My VHF set seems to be working fine till now, probably the static went into my HF set through power line instead of antenna feed line.

Sorry i was referring the mast.Anyway any suggestion how to install the lighting arrester and ground the mast?It is on 2nd floor concrete house middle lot.No access to soft ground.
*
Expensive way is to buy those copper strip, the one you can usually see at taller building where they installed the lightning rod at the roof top. Surely this is expensive, so, I'm using the normal green cable that you can find from any electrical shop to do my grounding. I've another grounding separated from house ground, 12' down (2x6' rods). I just run the cable from the mast to this new ground point.

No soft ground? Just don't ground your mast smile.gif I don't think its a good idea to have it connected to your house electrical ground.

Lightning arrester? Just buy the Diamond SP1000 lightning arrester, but, still you need to have a good ground. So, by hook or by crook, if you want a safer installation, you need to have a separate grounding system.

Inline lighting arrestor is good as an insurance to minimize damage to your transceiver in the event of a lighting strike during operation or connect not unplugged. Then again, its common good practice to avoid operating during bad weather. Unless you're really a hardcore contester.
*
Hardcore contester with lot of money! Hehehe, most contesters will unplug their radio during bad weather.

After a long read at multisite,i think i will get a shorter antena which is BC100.
Cant find much review about it.Anybody have feedback on it?
I cant seem to find video on its intallation.Does it still need to be cut?
*
No idea really, I bought X500, installed it 10 years ago and done with it. It still working great up there on the roof smile.gif No idea about BC100.

You may want to look at this monobander antenna, made in Indonesia.

You can find most of us who're active on DMR's BrandMeister network especially in TG5021 or TG50210. And yes, mostly we're using hotspot (MMDVM_HS). Come join us smile.gif TG50210 is also connected to Wires-X room Malaysia-Net (20460) where we've two other repeaters connected to it. One in KL and the other in Melaka.

Tried to build one before for RTTY interface but failed, haha. Most probably my opto-isolator chip went bad or my soldering skill not good enough. smile.gif

see how now nearby my place got one electronic shop where i can buy some component solder myself with breadboard first... see how la
My TS590SG radio doesn't need any interface, just plug in USB cable can do digital already smile.gif I believe many newer radios have build-in digital capability now, no more interfaces needed, just USB.
