What does it take for foreigners to get an amateur radio license in Malaysia?
Is there a remote exam site or club organized exam that is hopefully in a more accessible? My main interest in Amateur radio is building radio equipment, what license is required to be allowed to build and operate a qrp transmitter in Malaysia? Is building an HF receiver illegal in Malaysia if unlicensed? I wanted off the air CW practice so I built a small simple DC receiver. |

prysm,
If you've your license from your country, you could try to get the reciprocal callsign from MCMC, if otherwise, you need to sit for the exam, more info on the examination can be found here: https://sems.skmm.gov.my/sems/exams/examinfo The exam is run by the MCMC, twice a year, usually in June and Dec. Since the application for Dec has been closed, the earliest you could sit will be next June. There are two classes, class A can operate on most amateur bands while class B could only go for UHF/VHF and 10m/6m for SSB. No CW allowed on HF for class B. You need to sit for class B first, you need to wait for a year after you've the class B license before you're allowed to sit for class A. Class B RAE test consists of 100 multiple answer questions, covering the law, guidelines, electronics, antenna and radio. Class A test will be CW only test, 12wpm rx/tx. Building a receiver is not illegal, transmitting on air is illegal. SWL is also not illegal, though getting the radio without you having the license will usually considered as 'illegal'. Well, if you know where to source the part, it is easy .. anyway, here is one of the replacement for the part:

Testing in lab environment I believe is fine. MCMC is not quite good in enforcement I may say, so, as long as nobody complaining about interference, than you're "okay".This post has been edited by wiraone: Nov 25 2012, 11:32 AM |

wanna ask about walkie talkie, is it usable among different brand?
e.g we have a Kenwood with 16 channel, but this walkie talkie cannot set the frequency. I think it's preset already just turn the knob to channel 1,2,3,...... Then we have the Baofeng UV-5R which is digital and can be programmed, as long as we know what frequency the kenwood is in, then we just key in the frequency number to the baofeng and then can communicate with each other rite? also is there a way for baofeng to scan the frequency to lock into a frequency with ppl communicating?? |

QUOTE(wiraone @ Oct 16 2012, 11:59 AM) Tips? Last minute one? 6 dits? are you sure?During sending, if you make an error, do send the 6 Es (dits) and restart sending the word again (yes, repeat the whole word even if you're at the end already .. word and not sentence ah!). The same goes when you make an error while sending the numeric group, resend the whole group. For me, the hardest part while sending is when the alphabet has more than 3 dits .. H,4,5,6 .. haha.. And good luck! |
