Eddie, nice setup. 9M2RKK seems to be quiet for quite a long time, probably a good time to cheer up the repeater again. Do call from time to time, there might be someone else monitoring the frequency. Few months ago, there was a retired 9M2 who was restarting back his amateur radio hobby on RKK. Probably the old TTDI weekly eyeball can be resurrected again and make RKK busy once more.

9W2SVT, Stanley, yup, we're in the same group on high altitude balloon project and part of APRS. He was with his APRS Studio group presenting their works on APRS during our last MyAPRS workshop in PD. Still going low profile right now on the HAB project, couldn't source a reasonably priced helium

Yup, that is a going on price, rm750 per big tank. The balloon is around 1.5 - 2m in diameter.

When I got my first AA back in 2007, I got mine there and then, within 15 minutes. Down the line, there were errors made by some branches causing some callsigns that expired for less than 5 years got reassigned and this causes confusion. I guess they're now taking time to minimise this error since there interest on getting a license increased quite tremendous past few years due to more influx of people getting involved in car clubs and convoys.

QUOTE(eddie_lim @ Jan 27 2015, 03:48 PM) Now a lot of people taking RAE is because they want to use the amateur frequency range (UHV) so that they can either hit repeater or simplex with longer range. I have no issue on other people's intention, but from my 2 cent, amateur radio is a hobby activity, just make this activity as fun as possible. Shouldn't really ask what their intention is to get a license, the more, the merrier isn't it. By getting a license, they've done their obligation to legalise to use the frequencies.Wiraone, What kind of setup you used for i-gate? I am looking for low voltage setup to power i-gate as maybe a web ANT51 TNC + handy + internet + the CP22E antenna. On igate, I've just use Byonic's TT4 TNC, FT250 handy into my X5 antenna. I won't advice putting more igates in Kuala Lumpur, there are too many of them. |

Someone posted a SOP in fb Radio Amatur Malaysia, just follow that SOP. It has been practiced that way here, you need to ID when passing the mic.

Practice makes perfect, nothing wrong if you made a mistake on the air, someone can correct you there and then. For a conversation where more than two are on the air, the practice here is to do a round robin way, which mean if there are A,B,C in the conversation, A will pass to B, and B passes to C and lastly C back to A. In a normal conversation, if there are more than three, the topic discussed usually went haywire and I don't really like to engage in this kind of conversation, it is hard to maintain the consistencies and this usually will become ragchewing. Interrupting some conversation just to check your signal report is a not a good idea too. Only join in when you want to contribute to the topic being discussed or want to join the morning/evening ragchewing during road traffic crawl.

QUOTE(shinchan5347 @ Mar 5 2015, 01:34 AM) Sorry if I in a wrong thread..I have searched on the internet and found that the old fm/am radio can scan the air traffic control from the airplane..so I bought a simple fm radio which cost rm40 and now I am having a problem in which the inside module of this radio is different from the intruction that I read on the Internet..anyone can help me to solve this? For airband, you need to have an AM radio which can be tuned to the frequency used by the traffic controller. I would suggest to get yourself those TV dongle for around the same price you spent on that cheap radio but it needs a PC or smartphones to hear the transmission. More information on that tv dongle can be found here: http://www.rtl-sdr.com/ |

I've no idea if it will work, as said, even if you can extend the range for the radio to tune to, you still need to switch into AM modulation. Current cheap FM radio comes I guess in a single chip FM receiver.
On where to source RLT_SDR, I guess its cheaper to get it from ebay or you could try lowyat. |

9M2RKK and 9M2RKL seem to be dead since early of the week. I believe both are sharing the same power source. Either the power supply went kaput or someone accidentally switch off the power.

QUOTE(aminpro @ Apr 12 2015, 05:39 AM) I am mostly monitoring RAKL[9M4RZS] Bang, lower frequency tu selalu nya untuk SSB, data and satellite communication. So, check the frequency that you use against the band plan given out by MCMC.Often use 144.100 to 144.250 for my friends in Cyberjaya mainly because no congestion and also get a bit of privacy since nobody monitoring that channel. |

QUOTE(aminpro @ Aug 19 2015, 01:17 PM) I am actually planning to take on CW so I could register my own repeaters. Yes, they just announced the 2nd CW test for this year which is for September. The next one will be in March next year.I saw that the 2nd CW test was conducted earlier this year. Perhaps I'll wait when there is a computer test. I found that CW is harder to find information on than RAE There aren't many guides because not that many are actually looking for/sharing it. Just for your information, there are few differences on the two types of CW tests currently hold by MCMC. 1. Manual CW test ( twice a year, March and Sept) - For text, you'll receive a free text, usually in two or three sentences. Lately they've used different topic for each of the sentence, so you might get three different sentences that are not related to each others. - For number, you'll receive 10 groups of numbers, each group has 5 number. - Before the receiving session, they'll run a series of CW text. You'll be able to ask them to reduce the spacing or the speed (from my previous experience). - You're able to ask the testers to resend the whole text and numbers again for the second time (use it to check for missing alphabets/numbers). - You can copy the text into a sheet of paper and copy them to the answer sheet, if you miss on receiving some of the text, you can guess. - For transmitting test, you'll need to transmit the same text and group of numbers that you received in the receiving session. Your tester will be from our army's signal corp. Your are able to correct the wrong words that you've sent and they're very lenient. - For this method, you're suggested to delay your transmit training until the end. Just concentrate on the receive, when you get the rythm, your can easily do the transmit. 2. Computerised CW test ( once a month or when announced) - For text and number, you'll get them in a group of 5 each. - You're able to set your speed that is comfortable to you (if it too slow, you won't finish your test on time). - You need to perfect your sending, if the spacing or speed is wrong, the computer will decoded it wrongly and you're not able to correct them. If you're going for the computerised one, I believe you could use the CW Player (http://www.f1orl.org/cwpeng.htm). You could build a key and connect it via a serial port for training. Our sifu PIJU might be lurking around and probably could give more input. This post has been edited by wiraone: Aug 19 2015, 02:09 PM |
