Hi bro/sis out there,

I'm currently moving in to my new apartment and as my wife is currently busy decorating the house, I figured that I might as well need to decorate the living room with a new gadget. As I already have a TV, a standard 5 series Samsung LCD, I figured that what would be better than to have a brand spanking new Home Theater. Hehe =)

So I would like to get some opinion for all you bro/sis that have tantamount of knowledge in the home theater area to help guide me in making the best informed decision in buying a new HTIB. =).

Below is my criteria:

- should support 5.1
- should have optical in (as I have a ps3 and planned to use it to play games and watch blue ray)
- most important budget around ~RM1.5K (this is the buzzkill - new house have to buy most of the stuff so budget a bit small)

Done some survey in the forum and went to few places like courts and harvey norman, so far got the following contender:

1) Sony DAV-DZ590K
2) Sony DAV-DZ610
3) Phillips HTS3373

Any comments/suggestion/feedback on the above or other brand/model would be helpful for me to go out and explore. Looking forward for some advise.

Actually i got to say the look does not give me a chance to go through over them compared to others. hahaha...Unless if someone recommended it I might give it a try. After all I should be putting design and look as more on the lower end of the priority hahaha any good samsung htib recommended bro ijoo

Fuiyoohhhh, that is a royal mess man... haha actually I'm a bit noob, I have read within this forum as well, some did mentioned HDMI cable bring out better sound some said optical...I have a friend connected with optical for his ps3, and it sounds good.

But gotta agree with you with the Onkyo, it does looks good and I heard that Onkyo is a different league compared to Sony, Phillips, Panny, Pioneer so I guess it shud be better but what to do lor, small pocket hehe

Samsung? NO NO NO!
Sound system is about "Sound".
If going for low-budget, all-in-one HT system. I think Pioneer would be a good pick. For the same price range, Pioneer speaker would sound better compared to Sony.

If you want component-based system (i.e. separate Amp & speakers), Onkyo would be a good candidate for entry-level candidate.
Just go to Desa Home Theater Kepong and you'll be able to find some good deals.

yes. you are right. when it comes to sound quality, forget abt hitb. but the samsung is good just for a tv set.

Seriously, HTiB is more for the Deco. Sound ain't good.

Since you oledi have the means to play bluray, you don't need a HTiB with a built in DVD player...so I recommend this:

Sony HT-SF470

There is even some thread abt this:

Sony HT-SF470 has nice wireless back speakers that for sure, but that thing also HTIB, so i dont think all HTiBs are "more for deco" or "Sound aint good"

It is kinda contradicting statement.

I've yet to hear a HTiB that can sound as good as a Component System...but then, to start a decent Component System is double the price blush.gif
