QUOTE(Reuben @ Nov 22 2010, 07:08 PM) PROBLEMAs I do a lot of customer support, I noticed that recently there seems to be a disturbing trend where it appears that TM is capping INTERNATIONAL traffic on certain accounts. This has happened for perhaps the past 1-2 weeks or so. » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « I initially posted this on my blog but would want to know if other people are experiencing this. SYMPTOMSI am unsure whether this is triggered by data usage or otherwise but here are the symptoms: 1. The caps appear to be hard caps. There is NO fluctuation in speed, it just appears as if it's maxed out at 50 kB/sec. Some 4 mbit users report being capped at 200 kB/sec and I have a 512 customer being capped at about 25 kB/sec and saw some 1 mbit customers having the same thing. It does look like an intentional cap as they are in common multiples. 2. No appearance of packet loss 3. Speedtests to local servers except Cyberjaya are fine but speedtest to Singapore/Cyberjaya/any other outside server shows the hard cap speed. 4. This appears to be indiscriminate as it applies to ALL types of international transfers be it http/P2P/FTP. LYN REPORTS:Many LYN Reports also appear to show the same thing: badang_1785MrComotdisketfigure8myandylaiericee9huh?MX510HornetMY CUSTOMER'S TEST RESULTSI'll let my customer's report detail it: +1 ahhhh I think you are right!

Does ne1 know if the 512kb Streamyx pkg is available and if it is also capped at 512kb cos I am thinking of downgrading my 1mb pkg. No point paying extra for the 1mb pkg if it performs just like the 512kb pkg. Thanks.

QUOTE(Srious @ Nov 26 2010, 12:09 PM) ~~||| what the heck? i was planin to upgrade to 2mb o 4mb soon le...nw like this~ nw whr gt heart to upgrade?cap this and that, throttle this and that! how to download files like this? --------------------------------------- P/s : F*** TMNUTJOB actually you should upgrade cos 1Malaysia policy is to rob the poor to subsidise the rich. see how the poor buggers like me on 1mb pkg kena cap like blardy fools while the unifi ppl still getting high speeds! malaysia boleh! if you can afford it better go upgrade to unifi. instead of allocating 10% of the money to improve the country's internet infrastructure they rather spend 100% of the money to build 100 storey building! now you know why FDI is dropping like a stone just like internet speeds.

I just called up 1-300-88-9515 to complain about the slow speed. The CS said that although he couldn't see from his end my exact speed when I was testing on speedtest.net he could see that my line condition was 'very beautiful'. ahhh what can I say! Sometimes in our frustration and agitation we completely forget that it is really not the fault of these CS for our abysmal speeds and so we take it out on these poor sods who are just doing their jobs. The actual fault lies with those higher up in the TM hierarchy who sets the policies and makes the decisions. The CEO's and whatnots. And so I told the CS that it may be a problem with my router and I thanked him for his troubles. The 'troubleshooting' session lasted more the 20 minutes and I wondered how many times in a day these poor buggers gets abused by customers calling in. So spare a thought for these poor CS blokes. They aren't responsible for your problems. They are just there to try and help out as well as earning a living.

QUOTE(mikapoh @ Nov 26 2010, 03:02 PM) 1mbps package user reports in. Experienced slow download from avg 180KB/s to now 50KB/s. Speed back to normal after midnight & continue to remain good maybe until 8am. Feels frustrated as I am heavy downloader so called up TM Helpline. Same response as they see my line & port are doing fine. They also keep saying NO WAY streamyx is capping the bandwidth as it is "unlimited". Ask me to use direct line to test, same old procedure Tomorrow will arrange technician to come my house to check the line. Wonder what miracle can he produce..... They have an impressive looking gadget for testing the telephone line condition. I saw them using it once at my place. Unfortunately for you I already know the outcome whats gonna happen to you tomorrow. They will test your tel line and find it to be a-ok maybe even 'beautiful' cos they gonna look at the SNR and attenuation levels and all that stuff will come out looking immaculate. Don't be surprised if the tech that comes to your place tomorrow is clueless about capping and throttling! ahh! What to do....it happened to me b4 and I also cannot marah defla cos it's not his fault for the sad state of affairs! Some of these techs are so apologetic esp if you use some big words on them until they become pening kepala cos they can't understand what you are asking! sometimes don't know whether to laugh or cry! *sigh*

QUOTE(Mr.Wang @ Nov 27 2010, 01:32 AM) I tried to restart my modem. Sure enough, once reconnect download speed to local server for 4mbps only 1.5mbps. Have to disconnect and reconnect 3 times to get back to 4mbps speed. That means TM haven't fix the problem. TM never said it was a problem so what is there to fix?

Request time out has nothing to do with capping. I do not get any request time outs which confirms what the TM CS said that my line condition is 'very beautiful' yet I am still capped and getting very slow download speeds. Request time out could mean there is a network configuration problem with TM's routers or a router is on the blink, nothing to do with capping.

QUOTE(Hornet @ Nov 27 2010, 08:15 PM) Yeah, they want more customers, get more money every month, and yet they refuse to use that money to upgrade the service and bandwidth. Throttling P2P is one thing, but when they cap ALL international traffic, thats really retarded, its as good as just cutting our package speed, and I would also like to cut the bill cost in half the money is for building 100 storey skyscrapers and also to buy a ticket for a space tourist so there is no money left to upgrade service and bandwidth.

QUOTE(cucumber @ Nov 27 2010, 08:50 PM) Does anybody know if this is temporary? I can't imagine this being permanent... What's the best Streamyx alternative at the moment? It is permanent. Clampdown on illegal filesharing together with censorship of the internet will be introduced later. It is going to get worse, pls don't dream it will get better cos this is Malaysia NOT South Korea.

QUOTE(QuickFire @ Nov 27 2010, 11:49 PM) I'm tied to a 2-year contract but u won't take this kind of shit for long. Its bad enough throttling p2p, but this is an entirely different thing altogether. Since almost everything on the net is hosted overseas, essentially we are paying 4mbps charges for 512kbps speeds. Can someone tell me how this is anywhere possible ethical or legal? it doesn't matter whether this is ethical or even legal. as to whether this is possible, they have already screwed you and there's nothing you can do about it short of migrating to another country.

Let all Malaysian know what TMNet been doing lately. +1 funny how none of the main stream media seemed to have picked up on this? aren't there any journalist/reporter types in this forum? it would make a great front page story..... most unethical ISP in the world!

QUOTE(Mr.Wang @ Nov 28 2010, 11:48 AM) Media can't simply complaint TM cos it is controlled by government. If dare to complaint then will get big trouble. It is reporting on facts also known as news. How is that considered a complaint? It makes no sense why the newspapers can't publish news that TM is now resorting to indiscriminate capping across the board. If the local MSM can't do it, how about CNN, AFP, Al-Jazeera, Reuters, Fox News etc.

QUOTE(nwk @ Nov 30 2010, 09:36 AM) if proxy can get full speed that mean tmnut is capping your speed on purpose. THIS IS HARD CAP NOT CONGESTION!!!!!!!!!!! the purpose is to save money cos tmnet dont wanna buy more bandwidth for the country. the purpose is to screw you ppl for more money, hoping you ppl will upgrade to their unifi. tmnet needs more money for the 100 storey merdeka tower and also to buy a ticket for another space tourist. all these things needs money.
