Are you sure this is not temporary? My app download speed from iTunes is 20KBps when it's usually 160KBps. Most of what we surf and download are from overseas. I cant see them getting away with this.

QUOTE(vivre @ Nov 26 2010, 11:42 PM) This fine evening, a TM technician called me, and the conversation took over 30 minutes. He was basically trying to help me with the slow connection (or should I say capped connection), and he was very kind too and have the technical background too. As expected a load of rubbish. Not surprised it's temporary, they haven't grown the cowardly balls to do something like this permanently (yet). The question now is how temporary this is, and how do we stop them from "temporarily" doing this again in the future. In summary, these are the key understandings that I still remember (not in order ya, coz I just wrote whatever came across in my mind, just got back from watching movie too, so started to forget some of the details): a. YES and YES, TM has enforced the capped under the Fair Usage Policy. And he said he could not anything as it was coming from higher level - and the reason that was believed to allow TM to do so is because we have signed the form and there was FUP policy b. It seems that the international bandwidth has been used up to the CRITICAL level, and prompted them to make this swift move. c. This move is believed to be a 'strategic' move so that existing Streamyx users will migrate to Unifi (where the quota is real and stated upfront) unlike Streamyx which does not impose any quota. d. Apparently, there is automated system where it monitors the bandwidth used on daily basis and enforce the speed cap across the user base, whenever the bandwidth is saturated. Unfortunately, this system does not monitor INDIVIDUAL usage, but rather as a whole. So, it does not mean that if you don't clog the bandwidth you are safe. e. He believes that this cap is temporary while waiting for the Unifi subscriber's base to increase. f. The cap is enforced based on the package (meaning to say 4mbps should be getting higher capped international speed thatn 1.5 mbps) g. It seems that TM won't go public with this speed cap to take care of their reputation. (Remember when Unifi was launched with quota, the whole nation was condemning them, and later they retracted the quota 'temporarily') h. The growing number of 'big-buffet-eater' (read: Unifi users) has something to do with 'running-out-of'bandwidth' effect that all of use are currently facing. i. The word "Unlimited" in Streamyx ads refer to the access and not the bandwidth. What I did: a. I asked him to escalate to higher management to let the public knows about this cap. b. I told him many were flaming and bashing TM, especially nowadays after the sudden speed cap. c. The FUP should be more transparent rather than GENERIC FUP i.e. Unifi, Maxis BB, Digi BB clearly states their monthly quota. That's all. I will add more if I managed to recall some of it. Hope this helps. |

90% of in internet is international. Might as well call it Intranet instead of broadband now. I'll call and email them later.

I'm tied to a 2-year contract but u won't take this kind of shit for long. Its bad enough throttling p2p, but this is an entirely different thing altogether. Since almost everything on the net is hosted overseas, essentially we are paying 4mbps charges for 512kbps speeds. Can someone tell me how this is anywhere possible ethical or legal?

Just called TM. I could tell the CSR was going to ask me to check for my antivirus, firewall, router and all so before he could do it I told him it had nothing to do with that and it was all from TM's side. He still asked me to do the ping test and I did that. Nothing out of the norm there- around 300ms to a US server. And then he told me to hold while he went to colsult his supervisor or something... and I was left hanging there listening to the phone spam messages, until suddenly he hung up on me or the call was disconnected.
Tomorrow I'll call again, this time no more build-up, ask for supervisor straight away. Can't believe crap like this is happening. Even with their reputation, I cant believe TM has the balls to do something as outrageous as this. |

What do you reckon is the percentage of streamyx subscribers that are affected by the capping?

QUOTE(FallenOut @ Nov 30 2010, 09:45 PM) remember last time someone mentioned bout new players in the broadband sector I'm on coolunipack, 24-month contract, and I cant take this shit. I'm thinking of terminating and refusing to pay the RM600 penalty fee, but there aren't any alternatives out there.a few yrs down the road not even a peep competition? it will kill screamyx faster than a h1n1 virus Providing 20% of the advertised speed definitely isnt my definition of fair usage policy. ROFL what a joke of a name. |

Dato Zam is on air on BFM 89.9 right now. Someone call the station up and ask him about this. 0377109000 I think.

Yeah I listened to the interview on BFM today too. They'll pull theplug on the cap within one or two days it seems, if the problem continues.

Does the IP reset during the transition from 'good' connection to a throttled one? Goddamn. Before I left work my download was at 150KBps for my 1mbps line, I knew it would be capped sometime around 8 or 9am, but I left it on anyway. When I came back I noticed my download failed and Steam asked to relogin because my IP address had changed. Not only can I not download at my paid for speed, I can;'t even bloody download anything when I leave for work.
I'm sick of them technicians calling me up everyday asking me how is the speed, should be send a technician over, we have reset your port, we will try changing your server, etc whole load of crap. Stop pretending to care TM. Just stop calling us to "follow up". It's wasting you easily-earned money. I've been calm when speaking to them, but when they call tomorrow it will be a different me. |

QUOTE(boysrule @ Dec 2 2010, 08:44 PM) you guys should check with TM and file a report if they dont give u a resolution. could it be your router, pc with p2p running on the background or pc infected with virus? check your task manager on the networking tab and see if theres any activity during idle. if all above does not apply then it might be problem with the phone line. just my experience, no other isp performance is better than TM in malaysia. -1 |
