I had came across some football song which imo is really nice and really creates atmosphere. Everyone have different opinion in how a good football song should be. To me I really love Derby county's steve bloomer's watching. it had this dual theme feeling... and afew others

Derby County's steve bloomer's watching

Newcastle's 'd rather be a Geordie in the championship had this countryside feeling

Leeds United's marching on together

UEFA theme song

IMO ...I prefer something that can really gives you that kinda playing feel...something that motivates you to do so.... YNWA is a sentimental song and hardly gave you that feel...It may bring you back some nice memory and its a nice song...But I prefer a motivational ones. That is my opinion however.

YNWA carries a lot of meaning. We all feel like singing and hugging strangers when we win but it says something that it's sung even when the chips are down. It's nice when you hear the fans singing when you are winning but it's motivating to hear them sing when you aren't. Half-time in Istanbul everyone? Whether it's sung out of defiance or genuine belief, it tells the team that we win or lose together. We aren't just there for the good times.

TS, you mentioned a song that's upbeat and catchy instead of one that's sentimental? Erm... Ricky Martin's "Cup of Life"? I know Freddie Mercury's "We are the Champions" is constantly used as well.

If i were a Liverpool fan, i would listen to YNWA to "remind" myself of how Liverpool is in my heart. but probably not as a Pre-match build up, coz it is mellow.

For MU, i like "Song For The Champions", singing about United winning the league, as well as United legends like Giggs, Andy Cole, Solskjaer, Sheringham and Pallister.

There's a Manchester United Calypso, going with the Jamaican beat laugh.gif

This is also nice - Lift it high. Especially when it's sung by these players laugh.gif

And of course u have the United's "Official" song, Glory Glory Man Utd cool.gif

Glory Glory Man Utd for me..UEFACL's theme is quite nice too

YNWA, ironically, was sang by some opera singers in Old Trafford in the 50s to remember the lost ones in the Munich Disaster.. but it's definitely not one of our club's anthem.

Haha yeah, United fans actually sang that song before the trend picked up in Liverpool.

And the Scots sang it before United, or something.

All songs can be motivating la but depends on when the fans sing it. YNWA is one of them.

But one thing I have to admit, when I listen like normal song, no feeling. This song has to be sing by Liverpool fans to translate the real meaning.

Many people consider Glory Glory Man United to be the official song. Funny thing is. it's rarely, if ever sung by the fans in the stadium. Mostly played over the tannoy. Hence not a big fan of it.

Better songs around.

Pride of All Europe

Johnny goes marching down the wing, which Liverpool fans nicked as their Torres song

Come on you Reds

yea... I am not in the right position to say how a football song should sounds like. Everyone have their own likes of how one should sounds like... Just notice that most of Liverpool's fans prefer sentimental ones...Maybe because of YNWA effect? But if thats the case I would say Liverpool had some of the best sentimental football song . YNWA is a ncie song...But I would prefer Fields of Anfield Road. It sounds nicer imo, YNWA is kinda too sad for me....its sounds like its the last day of the world or sorts....

Freddie Mercury's we are the champions sounds more or less like YNWA but again they are nice songs that best playing after the game or synchronizing into a video clips with past memories. I still prefer something that is able to warm up the atmosphere during the game...Actually Glory glory Man Utd is one of the best I think.... Its easy to sing, everyone knew the tempo... steve bloomer's watching from Derby County is another one that can really kick the fans up.

Even as a rival, I wish they'd play the whole song or at least other bits of it more often so some fans don't think it's limited to the chorus. They do mention Busby in there.

Not all songs were written for the club specifically. Some are adopted and modified. YNWA for example is also sung by Celtic and Kaiserslautern. So there, songs are not stolen, they are adopted and adapted.

Both songs have very different meaning so I won't say one is better than the other. The former takes a more positive tone by talking about pride and riding to glory whilst the latter is more passive and talks about sticking together and having hope when you're down. I'm sure that fans of their respective clubs will have their own sentimental reasons for liking their club songs and not just because it sounds cool.
