Persona is not cheap to maintain. Buy other cheaper makes with higher specs. to suit your budget. B-Line not recommended.

today I service my persona mileage 40,000km kena rm270.70 w/o engine oil bcoz i bring my own oil...and that is the 2nd SC i went bcos the 1st 1 don wan to accept bcos i bring my own oil...

2nd 1 oso don want to accept actually...but i said if u don wan change engine oil,nvm just change other parts la..engine oil i go change other place la..then he said warranty will void..then i said void, void la...

last 2 services, i oso bring my own oil bcos SC only sell Petronas oil..
why i don wan use petronas oil?because after 1000++km my engine will "gegar"..few of my frens oso experience the same..

i saw the notice in the SC from HQ, effective 17 july kenot accept if customer bring their own parts..this is unfair!!!

previously, i use shell helix ultra fully for 10,000km..very smooth..
now i use castrol edge fully, smoother than shell...

the main point that i want to higlight here is, we pay for the labour charge what?(rm120) so why want to force customer to use petronas oil???if it is proton oil, i will consider...
*
Dude. Do you change engine oil after every 5K or 10k Km intervals? If you whack your ride often, better change @ 5K intervals. Dun trust Proton's sales talk. I only send to Proton SC every 10K because of the rubber stamp on my service booklet. In between, I send outside.

Cool it Dude! This place is not a Michael Chong's MCA Public Complaints Bureau. Unfortunately, a lot of members here like to think it is. Why don't you come back here once you have your ride & tell us all about how you go it. Just a reminder, this place is for Persona owners. Not wanabe Persona owners like you.

How come lately I've seen 2 Persona broke down in the middle of the road. It's not GEN2, NEO or WAJA... in a week I've seen 2 cases.

I am curious & I believe this thread will have an answer.

Guys, add me to the list.. New LYN member & new Personarian... XD
PE Bronze Garnet M-line, WUP 6**6, Setapak/W.Maju/Melawati area  biggrin.gif
just got my car last week, but I've been reading the thread since V1!!

Thumbs up guys!!  thumbup.gif

I love my new car..But I'm facing some problems... Mostly noise problems..

1.Cornering or simply driving on uneven road, metal knocking sound. I understand that it's the steering assembly/orifice valve thingy.

2.Dashboard rattling noises when accelerating. Really irritating, sounds like some loose screws but I'm not so sure about it.

3.Buzzing sound from driver side aircond vent, from what I read it seems like it can be solved by reprogramming the ECU?

4.Door panel sound from front passenger seat. It sounds like 2 pieces of leather rubbing against each other when I'm driving, but if I wind down the window just a little bit, like a few mm, the sound is gone. Anyone encountered this before? Seems like the rubber is pressing too hard on the window glass when the window is fully up.

5.Door panel sound from rear right passenger seat. I have no clue where it came from. Everytime I go over bumps, there's a noise, as if there's something IN the door panel that's loose. Sounds like 'tak' 'tak'. And, the sound is quite persistent and it happens 9 out of 10 bumps I drive over, no matter how slow I drive. I'm quite sure that the sound came from the door panel because I can hear it very near me, like right behind me. So far this is the most annoying and irritating sound in the car.

Anyone facing no. 2, 3,4 & 5? Going to CoSE tomorrow, maybe to let them find out what's wrong & where do the noises come from. Then maybe order parts & make another appointment. Hmm..  hmm.gif

Also, I'm planning to change my stock rims to 17' rims. The guy at the tyre shop suggested that I should use 215/45/17, but I'm not quite sure about that.. Will 215 be a little too wide & hit the fenders while cornering or overloading? E.G; 4-5 persons in the car.

Pls advice, sifu sifu personarians out there... tongue.gif

I seriously hope I didn't get a lemon... So far no prob with engine & all that, only noises... Loud, irritating noises..

If you have been following this thread since v1, then you should know what you are getting into when buying a Persona. First, I recommend you to get a set of lock nuts for your rims or else you will end up with a set of bricks. Then, get a good tire gauge so that you can inflate your tires with the ideal pressure. I feel the manufacturer's tire pressure recommendation of 31 psi (Front) & 28psi (Rear) is still a bit too high. This will cause the whole car to vibrate more hence the noises. I also think you are one of those unlucky ones having an orchestra for a car. My car is 15 mths. old & other than No. 5 (which I solved myself with electrical tape @ the folding seat) . No. 1 , non-existence, No.2 & 3 came & gone. The sound from the back seat can be very loud if left unchecked. As for the sound when you switch on the Air-con. - give it some time to run-in. As for the wider tires, they will not enhance your cars performance or your comfort, in fact the opposite. For some who has been following since v1, I don't think you are so gullible unless you have poor memory.

No bros.. It doesnt.. Vios only comes with front disc brake ABS.. The main reason it doesnt work ABS doesnt work with drums are due to the ABS works on the threshold braking concept (not sure if thats what it call, read it up somewhere). Threshold braking is applying just enough of brake force that prevents the wheel from locking up yet at the same time the most amount of brake force. Thats y u can feel ABS system working when the shudder in the tires due to losing and regaining traction on wet surface amplifies the effect of the hold and release of the ABS.

in Persona with front disc and back drum brakes, there is a brake proportioning valve and metering valve that prevents the same amount of brake force in the front and back wheel as the threshold for drum brake lockup is very low.. Example if disc brake lock up threshold is 3:1, drum is 1.5:1, so if there is no restriction of brake force, when the brake pump multiplies ur brake force to 2:1, ur front disc still wont lock but ur back tire will lock up.. To install ABS for 4tires u have to remove the proportioning valve and metering valve so that the ABS can get the correct wheel speed and brake pressure reading, but then the ABS would be defeated due to the different acceleration and deceleration speed of the wheel in the front and back, so it cant compare the data and making it useless..
K&N so expensive.. Get Works Engineering Simota filters.. Licensed from Simota.. Cheapest can get RM140 only..  thumbup.gif  thumbup.gif

Wouldn't all these additions of non-specified Proton components e.g Brake systems, wider/bigger rims/tires, air filters & extractors void the warranty. Guys, u r just giving Proton the chance to reject any claims. Is it worth it?

Woh? So fast change exhaust? The only thing I'm worried is the noise la.. I can't stand loud noises or heavy vibrations leh... I tried driving my gf's 14 yrs old wira to Penang, average 160 KM/H all the way. Walan, I almost go deaf lah.. But fun mah..  biggrin.gif  1.3 manual with exhaust oni..

Added on December 7, 2010, 12:03 am

I'm guessing your ride is stock standard?  smile.gif

Thats the thing with warranty. Each part of changed; e.g, exhaust system, the warranty for exhaust system only will be voided. Not the whole car. It's just how much you value the warranty. Rims, why would you need warranty on that? Tyres, no warranty cos it's wear & tear. For auto cars, our air filters are drop in type. If there's any problem, just remove the aftermarket one & replace with Proton's original filter & send it back to service centre.

Own preferences lah..

It'd be cool if I can get Langkawi/Kedah plate  biggrin.gif

What I meant was, rims are safety items. Could you blame Proton if say your non-original rims crack and cause damage to your whole suspension, driveshafts, knuckle arms. Air filters is non issue as they are cheap, stock or after-market

Come back, radio still on doh.gif
Started engine n the radio straight went off.
Turned it on and everything goes back to normal tongue.gif
Gosh, Persona have self recovering ability!

It is infamous. You simply turned the ignition key off too fast. Pause a sec. before turning-off. It won't happen. Its like rebooting. Happens to Astro all the time.

hi bros... wonder if anyone can assist me on the price for persona elegance taillight :-

1. do they sell by pcs or gotta go in pair?
2. how much is the ori (rekemen shop/forummer that sells it)?
*
Of course Proton or their stockists sells per side.

Complete unit per side - RM 540.26 (Old model: RM 187.62)

Only the shell per side - RM 388.91 (Old model : RM 152.44)

PE's Rear lamps are expensive because the LED module itself cost RM248.81 each side . The Door mirrors cost RM580.95 each (Old model : RM185.71). So, drive carefully.

QUOTE(xandras @ Dec 28 2010, 09:02 PM)
Erm.. Can anyone here stop me from being a tyre fanatic + fetish?  shocking.gif

Today I drove to Taiping & back.. To & fro..

With Mobil 97 & my gf in the car, average 160-170km/h about 8.8L/100KM..
With Caltex 95 & my gf + mother in law (60kgs) + sister in law (86kgs) in the car, average 150-160km/h about 10.5L/100KMs..

Do keep in mind that I'm running on 17", higher rolling resistance..

Ok, here's the thing. I drove to Taiping, hit 190 km/h once in a while, car felt as if it grew roots on the road. Planted and cornering at 160-170km/h feels good. No buang-buang feeling. Pirelli wins slightly. Just a little bit.

Drove back from Taiping, car heavy only can manage 180 tops, averaging 130-150 km/h in heavy rain. I've never felt so confident to speed before.  drool.gif No aquaplaning, no slippery feel. Very very nice. Pirelli lose here, in the rain my Bridgestone rules.

Conclusion? I'm changing my religion & going to worship The Holiness Bridgestone Potenza Adrenalin RE001. Damn syok & stim man... Unless I change my car to BMW or whatever shit in the future, I'm gonna stick to this exact brand & model for my Persona.  cool2.gif

And yes, I need more horsepowers. Add me in for the spark plug as well Zeng. My need for speed is getting more chronic..

BTW, are brake rotors covered under warranty? Cos I think mine uneven d.. Steering shakes when I brake at speeds above 130 km/h.. If they're not covered, I'll be changing to aftermarket cross-drilled slotted rotors..
*
You sound very confident of this untried & untested over time car. Actually, Persona is sluggish, heavy, under powered & low tech.(highly reflective of it's pricing) Hitting top speed in it is a nice feeling but braking is nightmare. Somehow, I feel this car has not enough R & D & Proton engineers are super incompetent to let it roll out of their factory like this. Not surprised they are relying on Mitsubishi again. PROTON - 25 YEARS OF SHIT!

Yup. They are the same Mitsubishi trannies i.e if you are refering to the Gen-2 IAFM versions. The Gen-2 CPS trannies are different.

Correct me if I am wrong. Is it wiser to change all 4 wheel hubs to larger one (which can accommodate 5 wheel nuts) instead of using back the original (4 wheel nuts) before installing excessively large rims/tires. Not to mention, Proton can void warranty for all Steering & suspension parts if they so wish. I am only afraid unauthorised mods like huge rim/tires may compromise safety.

If you look at the Persona's version of China's Youngman L3, you will see that the large wheels are planted on 5 bolts hubs which I feel is able to cope with the additional stress exerted on the drive-train & suspension.

i just consulted my friend who work as mechanic, he has done some checking, and ask me when i bought my car, i said just 5 days ago, then he advise me take to service centre or consult the SA on this to claim the warranty to change the whole bumper, basically this thing is beyond repair, of course i dont think i like to drill holes to my 5 days car. cos he told me similar case occured to his friend before. so i'll drop them a call tomorrow...

oh update a little bit, my friend told me even if rivet, the alignment wouldnt be the same. so i'll try my luck with the warranty claim. wish me luck persona lyn club...
*
Don't do that please. You don't have to stoop so low to replace your bumper. Please don't give Persona owners (especially LYN members) a bad name. Grow up, live with it & accept that accidents are part & parcel of owning a car. Forget about this sick scheme of yours.. I can't believe there are actually members here who would support such a ridiculous idea.

rckh..

"Grow up, live with it & accept that accidents are part & parcel of owning a car..."?

Now those are some really hurtful words aimed at a new PE owner..

In his case, his car is only 5 days old. I can understand why he would wanna replace the whole bumper. If it's a 10 or 15 yr old car I myself wouldn't bother either. Claiming a new bumper through warranty might not be a good idea, but it's up to him what he wanna do. If he takes suggestions from other people and decided he should claim it, then it's his decision. I don't see how this can give Persona owners a bad name. If he's able to claim it, then what's there to lose? A whole new bumper for free. If he's not able to, then it's up to him later whether he wanna buy a new bumper himself/rivet/staple whatever.

No hard feelings, but I simply disagree with what you just said. Unless your comment is merely suggesting that he should NOT claim a new bumper.
*
Am I not writing in English? Warranty claim? No way. Insurance claim? More probable i.e. if the owner has 0 NCD. & by the way, the guy does not need a defence lawyer while scheming up lie.
