for iphone 2G, the latest you can update is iOS 3.1.3. Your cousin is trying to tell you that the iphone needs to be jailbreaked and unlocked after the update for it to be useable; which makes the process just a tad complicated. only just. do a google search, or better yet; ask your cousin to do it for you. it's kinda simple; even for a noob. laugh.gif

I've never had any problems using iphone myself [with MAS and other international airlines], and kinda surprised to read bout this actually. Kesian your friend ler.
