how to identified whether the hdd is goin to die soon or it juz sudden death !?

last 2 year i have all these hdd problems too...

last 2 year i bought a Maxtor 80.0GB IDE used as external drive for saving files and so on! Everytime i use, i have follow the instruction and proper shut down of the external hardrive, including proper disconnect from operating system.

after not even a month, there's a chip named: "SMART" burn! i can see the flame and smokes comes out, tat time... wah! really heartbreak man!

so i send back to service and warranty, the boss over there refuse to gave me the warranty! i keep pushing, complain bout their servicing all tat, in the end, they take my hdd and sent to servicing ! the boss even ask the workers to leaved a notice say: "BURN MARKS FOUND" and tell me its helpless and no hope for ya hdd... i so dammm pissing off man! so angry!!! not even a month !

after 3 weeks, i go claim smiling happily claim my new hdd! this time, i transfer less stuff ... proper shut down everything, not even a drop, after three days ... masuk kilang lagi ! i m so fed up and stop using maxtor tat time! this time, the boss also don care la... leaved it la!

after 2 weeks, i claim back my hdd... this time, i m straight going to trade in and get some money and then purchase other things...

here just to share ! my worse hdd nightmares!
