I'm really confused now. I thought rounded cables are supposed to improve performance because they reduce interference pickup and improve airflow?

Oh, man. And here I am swearing how drive trays are godsend when the case design is lousy (seriously, why the heck do I have to pull out my video cards just to swap out a hard disk?- and this applies to 90% of minitower and half of the full tower cases out there- to change hard disk on those, you must remove video card or remove the front panel (which may involve removing the CD/DVD/Blu Ray drives).
