Nice thread...err,as for how many times HDD can be formatted and all, isn't formatting juz another process of write/read...unless we do quick format, the HDD juz perform a simple process of cleanup..however,if we do low level formatting, than the HDD needs to re-write its tracks and ssector..

Am i right? hmm.gif

guys, for MDR... i sent in my Seagate Bara 500GB for recovery, but they spend days to verify ... but they failed to recover for me and sent it back to me FOC... really good service and professional

So now can anyone suggest what should i do with my HDD since it is warranty void ?

1. Throw it high from 13th Floor
2. Burn it with fire
3. Throw it into the lake
4. Slam it with a hammer

I will upload the video once i did any of the above

I do not know if its too late to answer you but many shops which sell spare parts in Low Yat plaza especially those run by middle east guys buy back these faulty HDDs. Sure, you may not even get 40 percent of market value but instead of disposing it in an un-enviromentally friendly way, you may as well make a buck out of it.
So anyone of you guys who have voided warranty HDD's take note of this.

Tipping Over of Cases

By far the most common damage to drives occurs through mechanical interference. The level of stress depends on the operational state of the drive, that is a drive that is not powered up will withstand some 300 G over 2 msec whereas in a drive that is up and running, 30 G suffice to cause errors and bad sectors. 30 G sounds rather high but any case tipping over and falling on a non-carpeted floor will easily exceed this value. The typical consequence is that the next bootup will terminate with the well known Chrrr, chrrr, chrrr ..... where the splash screen used to be.

Guys so when u boot up ur comp no sound coming from ur cpu...???o.O

Bcoz mine yea. It sounds kreekkk, kreekk.

I had mine crash by tipping over; will regret the day it happened. Lost all the data.

As for the HDD; fortunately it was still under warranty. They couldn't recover anything but replaced it with another one.

what about the position of the external hdd?is better when it is standing or laying down?
standing as in the side part is at the bottom, the other side on top.
laying down as in normal just like we place hdd internally.

My Maxtor OneTouch III 750GB just died not long ago. It's not even half a year yet since I bought this HDD. Anyone experience the same thing? Where should I claim the warranty from? Thanks.

You can call up the shop you bought it from to ask. Usually when you buy it, there should be a warranty card or something to provide you with warranty information.
