Hi all, I am not known here for paintballing as I only play it once a year at the most. I wanted to leave my comments on a particular paintball arena which I personally when to play at couple of weeks ago and had a VERY bad experience. I have been to quite a number of paintball places... all at different locations. But this is by far the worst.
It was a company organised event at Kombat Zone Paintball (
http://www.kombatzonepaintball.com.my/site/page1.aspx) located at Taman Melawati Gombak. They had 3 fields there, 2 rec ball and 1 speed ball. First off I will say it was a company sponsored event so I did not choose it or know about the price etc etc. So I am trying to be as neutral and as true as possible recount of my experience. I am not adding any story here because ... I dont need to.
Field/Location: We had to play in the rec ball fields as the games was 8 vs 8 games... no issue with me there however the
fields were badly water logged. How bad when I say water logged? there are multiple 1-2" deep water "pools" at the far end of the field on both rec ball fields. THe speed ball fields were slightly better but also had 1-2 <1" deep pools. Of the whole field
75% of the playing area is mud. This is not just 1cm deep mud... these were foot deep where if you steeped into them your whole foot disappears mud.
If you wanted "playability" as I understood it - forget about playing here, World War 1 trench warfare yes - if you also
do not mind the dog or cat dropping that found on the field, and no that is not a made up story. And as a guy who goes hiking and do outdoors often, I did say a natural swamp smells better than that place.
Because of this playability on these fields were near zero. Which ever team that had the water logged/mud pit side of the field had zero chance of winning.
Safety Practices: WORST SAFETY PRACTICES EVER!
The normal and expected safety briefing was expected and given. No problem there. But the nets covering the fields were neither high enough nor did they effectively prevented paintballs from flying out of the field. A great deal of
paintballs were shot under, over or THROUGH HOLES in the net out into the common area. A lot of the cars parked nearby (about 20m away) bear evidence to this (my car was one - and the oil mark is now permanent). Mind you these are not splash paint (ie a paintball that burst further away and only the paint hitting - these were whole balls hitting the car). As the common area was next to the fields, paintballs do ricochet off the ground and hit you on your legs. some even bounced off the minimal netting at then field entrance to hit you higher up the body. Some of my colleagues got that.
As some of my colleagues are new to the game they do not follow instructions properly or are just ignorant of the safety precautions to take which I fully expect the field marshals to ENFORCE. For example, when leaving the field, always have your SAFETY on! and barrel socks on! Not at kombatzone.
On game over, they do not remind you or check that your safety is on nor do they ensure that your barrel sock is on BEFORE YOU LEAVE THE FIELD! We have colleagues with markers safety off, barrel socks off bringing their gun out of the field into the common area while fumbling to put the sock back on. This is just an accident waiting to happen at this place.
My recommendation to anybody hoping to play paintball is to
avoid Kombat Zone like a disease. I suspect the place was cheap to play at. But it is definitely not worth it. The place is NOT PLAYABLE! Nor do they practice safe gaming there. There are many better and safer place to play at. Unfortunately Kombat zone is not one of them.
