Wa so deep can explain in simpler English lol?
*
Ok.. Try again.
To set aperture in old manual lens, u turn the aperture ring on the lens itself but newer lens dont have this ring. Aperture is set on the camera.
There's no electronic connection between non-m43 lens and a m43 camera so cannot set the aperture and can only use the lens on its preset aperture.
Since this lens performs best at f2.8 or smaller, its troublesome to preset the aperture in advance on a canon camera for example and then moving it to the m43 body.
Better?

yesterday went fotokem fair... i walk in to see GF2 but the seller keep on say not worth getting the gf2 he say g2 is better and is good for long run as compare.

from his booth, the package he compare is below

GF2
Body,
14mm or 14-42mm
Bag
8gb memory
cleaning kit
around 100cm tripod
@RM2400

G2
14-42mm
45-200mm
Bag
2x 8gb memory
cleaning kit
around 100cm tripod
@2499

he say g2 have around similar function as except 720p video, lightweight and other not so important function.

anyone can enlight me on which 1 more worth?
if possible state some of the pros and cons

btw i am newbie, this is my 1st camera
*
To put it this way.... sensor wise, both GF2 and G2 sports the same thing so image quality is similiar. You do get a build-in electronic viewfinder which is useful for bright days outdoor and shooting with long lens for stability.

So the G2 is also more ergonomic which means that it has to look like a bonzai dslr.

Then when you look outside m43, these "advantages" becomes its problem as an entry dslr like Canon 550D, Nikon D3100 or even the Sony A33 performs noticeably better for more or less the same price.

And those DSLR's are bigger but like ~200grams heavier niah. Either ways have to put in a bag... and 200grams in a bag is not noticeable.

So depend on how you see things.. my dua sen are:

If touchscreen is a "feature" --> I'll get a Iphone 4
If want pocket friendly --> I'll get a S95
If want m43 --> I'll get a E-PL2 or GF1+20mm wub.gif
If want everything --> I'll get an entry DSLR.

might be interested to get the lens too if it turns out good...

Main annoyance (or a benefit depending on who you are) is that legacy lens are made for 35mm format so combine that m43's 2X crop factor.. everything turns into a tele.

Like the Nikkor 50mm you mention... works like a

- 50mm standard on fullframe DSLR's
- 75mm "portrait" lens on other DSLR's/ NEX
- 100mm telephoto on m43.

A bit of a problem for normal usage imo. Best to hunt for "wider" lens.

I suggest you use what you have first and only buy what you need/want when the need/want arise.

Hi i have a question,
1. Olympus E-PL 2 has internal focus motor and GF-2 doenst have it?
Then how does GF-2 focus??
2. Lenses between M43 all interchangeable?
How bout if i want to connect canon lens , lets say 50mm f1.8 onto E-PL2, will i get to control aperture and the lens will AUTOfocus??
Do i need a adapter to connect canon lens and if need how much is  the adapter and is the adapter universal for telephoto, UWA, etc??
3. Can i count on M43 to be a substitute for a entry level DSLR?
How high can the iso go to on M43 untill the noise level becomes too significant?

I have experience in DSLR but its not mine. Now i am ready to get either 550D or a M43. I open my options to M43 because i feel it is less bulky. Thank you!!
*
1. m43 camera's focus motor is in the lens. You mistaken it for image stabilization. Olympus stabilization system is on the camera while Panasonic's is in the lens.

2. Yes, m43 lens are all interchangeable.
For other system lens, the adaptors are usually not expensive as its just a piece of metal. Being a piece of metal without electronic connections, the lens will be manual focus only and you cannot control the aperture if the lens have no aperture ring. Read a page back on my post.

3. This is a relative question. You can use an iphone to be a substitute for a dslr. Some people take better picture on an iphone than others on a high end dslr.
Noise: Generally speaking, an entry dslr like the 550D has one stop advantage noise advantage. Everything else being equal.. shooting RAW... ISO1600 on 550D is roughly similiar to ISO800 on a m43.

Now i have a much better understanding....
Quote:  "its troublesome to preset the aperture in advance on a canon camera for example and then moving it to the m43 body."

But if for some reason i have a spare canon body to switch the 50mm f1.8 to it's widest, and mount it on the E-PL2, will the lens stay on the widest or will it move back to the pre-set number ( like f2.8)??
Then the only reason to buy the "pancake" lens is for the autofocus and maybe better IQ?
i like BOKEH alot smile.gif
*
On the Canon body, you have to press down the DoF preview button and then remove the lens while the camera's on. That will lock the aperture blades.

Then mount it on the E-PL2.

Previous post, I mentioned 1 stop advantage for the APS-C sensor... this includes dof as well. So the bokeh-ness of it on the E-PL2 will be more or less similiar to f2.5 on the 550D.

No crop factor right? Then need to position camera near the subject to capture portrait and end up with lens distortion issue... Correct me if I'm wrong. I'm really curious to know why
*
The 20mm is so sought after because:

- thin and light
- sharp
- 40mm focal length which is right in between the traditionally accepted wide (35mm) and standard (50mm) making it very versatile.
- f1.7 which makes it the most affordable and useful lens for low light/indoors.

Ya.. that article was quite dated already.
In fact, it poisoned a lot of folks into getting the GF1 and into the hearts of enthuasiast.
But then again, he's a pro, shoots RAW and great eye for post processing.

I damn regret never get the GF1+20mm combo when they were on clearance sale. Now market price already much more than the GF2 di cry.gif cry.gif cry.gif

Hi guys I'd like to ask something... recently got my GF1 so still a noob hehe.

For some reason when I crank up my ISO to 1600/3200 the shutter speed auto goes to 1/50s or 1/80s.. but then the shutter feels slow, slower than 1/30s... is it because of the really dark conditions?

Even when taking pictures in decently-lit conditions, ISO1600/3200 still feels quite slow in terms of shutter speed. Is it normal or is there a problem with my camera? :|

Then I don't understand what you mean by feeling slow... since you said it yourself that your shutter speed is faster.

Wonder what Olympus can do with the same sensor...come on olympus!

too bad~ if for work sure DSLRs are more suitable due to images quality but i rather carry a M4/3rd for walking around travel around few hours for great photos~ it's torture to carry a DSLR with battery grip, tripod, 2~3 lenses, flashgun, cleaning kit, there'll be few KG to carry~
Why DSLR must equate to battery grip, tripod, 2~3 lenses, flashgun, cleaning kit?

Wahh...seriously got this issue ar??? I thought is only the demo version / they haven't explore properly in those expert's blog when i read about it.... blink.gif

And want to ask....for GF2, is there any lens that can compatible with the camera?  I know that olympus M43 lense and also it's own G Vario lense, but if let's say like Sigma or Leica...or any other lense...is there any compatible with GF2 camera?  I saw they have M mount la...F mount la....apa mount la...what is that actually and for GF2, what mount shld I look for if looking for other lens than G vario? And how to know whether it is usable for GF2 body?  Any guide on this?  Really appreciate it if any of you here know more about this smile.gif
