No wor... I chose a compact cos biggest problem is lens thickness. Even my iphone w batt pack is bigger than the xz1. The e-pm1 with lens mount is already same thickness as the xz1. At least better than nex lo. These new oly's have potential provided they can convince the brandist.
i think we're now have good idea of how the new pen going to be like, the only piece of the puzzle is the sensor, whether they still use the old 12mp sensor or the new 16mp or maybe olympus own new sensor,if its the new sensor and couple with the olympus noise reduction algorithm(which is always better than panasonic),then i think i would seriously contemplate to get maybe the e-p3 as my second camera for shallower dof photography(45mm f1.8 in mind)
i sold off my 550d duh,now very likely to give up the 7d as well to accommodate the new pen,but i'm still anticipating the new pen specs,if its any good i would like it to couple with xz-1 and being able to share accessories(evf, flash) is a boon
If I were u.... I'll keep the 7D... and if needed.... get rid of the XZ-1 for the mini PEN's.
Cos U mention dof photography .... try calculating the dof for (based on same focal distance) .....
- 7D with a 35mm f2 vs E-PL2 with 20mm f1.7 --> APS-C 50% more shallow dof - LX5 (same sensor as ur XZ-1) 6-24mm f1.8-2.5 vs any m43 with 14-42mm f3.5-5.6 --> at full zoom... XZ-1 dof is half that of m43.
At least with the 7D, you'll still have the equipment to do telephoto and sports.
Hi guys, need some info here. Does anybody know if the Olympus vf2 viewfinder is compatible with Panasonic GF2 ? Any info is very much appreciated. Many thanks
i think the concept behind that ricoh is pretty innovative... i guess the downside is you're buying the sensor, image processor and shutter in a package everytime you want a different lens... that would keep the price of the lens high i think...it's almost the same as buying a new fixed lens camera... m4/3 still have room for price reduction..
the advantage i think would be the size...they use different sensor for different lenses...so you can get smaller total package...(ie fitting 1/2.33inch sensor for 28-300mm equivalent lens and APS-C sensor for 50mm macro)...
Yup...the Ricoh system is damn bloody expensive but on the other hand, plonking $$ into m43 lens and accessories now also don't make sense lo.
^ Camcorder - Large storage HDD - Optical Zoom ! (Save cost no need buy long zoom) - Tilt Screen (Easy to record) - Many cheaper choices now with great features.
For me , i would go for m43 because i can shoot and record , unless you want to record alot alot of videos then go for camcorder. Depend on your wife want better quality of video , ease of use or what. Camcorder can optical zoom.
Go for m43 , i think ur wife wont always record things bah ?or she is just 3 minutes temper? If get m43 u can also bring it out to street when she not using.
That's the plan It's not everyday that a potential justification for another camera comes along. She's got her mind set on the camcorder jor. I just need to change her mind.
ps: She not looking for something to make indie films la... just something for vids of my daughter running around. She doesn't like manual focussing on dslr so good vid AF is a must.
should look better with pancake lens...looks very much like a P & S...
and now they claim the new PEN's got
Olympus PEN system by introducing a new Micro Four Thirds, has created an entirely new category of cameras. Now presented a new flagship model PEN, which increases the standards in this category. Camera PEN E-P3, or just PEN, has the fastest autofocus among all cameras with interchangeable lenses. Along with excellent AF FAST (Frequency Acceleration Sensor Technology – Sensor Technology Acceleration Frequency), and OLED touch screen provides an ideal alternative to the much bigger and more expensive SLRs. Standing at the forefront of the next generation of PEN, the E-P3 owes its incredible speed in focusing the new powerful processor. TruePic VI was developed specifically for not using the mirror cameras. In addition to the new system FAST AF, TruePic VI also controls ten artistic effects filters and a large touchscreen OLED. In combination with a faster and more sensitive 12.3 megapixel sensor, TruePic VI provides exceptional image quality, which is also visible in low light conditions. For experienced users, PEN has a special windfall – two knobs on the back, which facilitate quick adjustment of exposure time and aperture. Add to that the integrated image stabilization system that compensates for blur irrespective of the lens. Camera PEN E-P3 will be available from August 2011.
Hmmm the JPG's NR quite heavy on ISO 1600 and above... the Paul Smith word on the watch not legible anymore compared with the APS-C competitors. This is a darn worrying trend.. first the XZ-1 now the PEN's.

raw samples are out...
From my understanding (basic) of what I read so far.. the camera continues to samples the scene (it adjust focus even without half pressing shutter) to quicken up AF lock.
In essence, most of improvements in CDAF are made this way.
But what about situations whereby we don't give the camera time to samples the scene.. like in street photography.. frame with eyes.. camera set to center point AF....then quickly draw camera and fire a quick shot.
So far from the experience with my XZ-1 (the only CDAF camera with me now) is that it'll miss most of the time.
