In linux world root is a superuser. When ur 'rooted' thats mean ur phone already have the superuser permission. So can flash new rom aka os into ur phone without restriction. Depends on ur phone model, like htc desire already have official froyo update hence u dont need to root ur phone to install froyo. Other than that, u have to root to install custom froyo rom or u have to wait until official release. Most of android user r technical ppl, we always want to mod our os, install with the latest kernel, overclock our phone processor etc... thats why we have to root our phone Added on November 18, 2010, 8:50 pmQUOTE(Ultima @ Nov 18 2010, 08:46 PM) If u new to phone, juz use it as it is... root will void ur warranty n may brick ur phone.. For htc root will not void ur warranty. If want to send for warranty just flash back original rom, that's it. Who said will brick our phone? If u follow the guide how to root and flash custom rom it should be no problem. We flash our rom and kernel and radio to get improvement on the performance compare to stock rom. About the rooted phone, we can still send it back for warranty, right? Just need to flash back to original ROM. Now I understand, but still can someone briefly teach us what you mean by "flash" and "flash custom ROM" (in this case what is a custom ROM), I'm new as well just bought a HTC Wildfire myself. Thanks guys....
