Today got a shock when my A42Jv could not power on. Only the first "Bulb" LED below the keyboard and touchpad turned on. After panicking a bit I turned off the main switch, unplugged, replugged, turned on the main switch, waited 3-4 seconds then pressed the "Power" button. Luckily this time it turned on completely.

Maybe the first time I pressed the Power button too early. I noticed the A42Jv "Power" key sometimes won't respond if you turn on the power adapter then quickly press the "Power" key.

I'm having some graphical issues with Left 4 Dead 2 (L4D2) after installing the latest Nvidia 266.58 drivers.

It's easier to see the problem than explain it. But here goes:
- Using high shader settings causes textures and models to glow white hot and/or crash
- With low shaders and low settings, surroundings seems to be obscured by some fog or mist

I wish I could roll back to previous drivers, but that would make Battlefield 2: Bad Company multiplayer unplayable because the latest drivers fix Punkbuster kicks.

Edit: I'm using Asus A42JV and playing on Steam.

sounds like a driver issue to me... rare to see such things on Forceware though... hmm.gif

tried the BF2 forum and see if others are having the same problem?

Yes, it's a driver issue. Other people have posted on the Nvidia forums about it. But luckily I can still play the game, as long as I don't turn up the highest shaders settings.

As for the BF:BC2 Punkbuster thing, it's a known issue for people who use Nvidia Optimus laptops. It's only until the 266+ drivers were released that I finally managed to play multiplayer on ranked servers.

Edit: Oh my god, this forum post in the Nvidia forum sums up my frustrations completely:

QUOTE(Domino @ Nvidia Forums)
266.58 gave me all sorts of issues with Valve games in general. Graphical anomalies, texturing problems, among other things. It is not simply an issue of using a driver sweeper and reinstalling, the drivers seem to change something that was fine in 260.99

as nvidia has forced us to do, you basically have to make a choice... Revert to 260.99 and play your Steam games well, but forego playing online in punkbuster games, or stick with 266.58 and wallow in the big pile of Valve failure that these drivers creates.

Sorry that it's like this, but this is my experience between trying these two drivers. Like I said, this is how the drivers behave whether or not they are installed cleanly or not.

Quite frankly Nvidia should be ashamed of how their Optimus experience has been. It's obvious that none of them have actually *USED* their own optimus system because if they did, they'd have no doubt run into the many many problems that makes optimus terrible for gaming. But whatever, as long as nvidia refuses to even admit there is a problem that means there is no problem right? of course.
