Hi Guys,

Some review on my new lappy (A43SV)

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

Spec:

i5 2410M (2.3GHz)
NVidia GT 540M (2GB)
4 GB 1333MHz DDR3
640 GB 5400R SATA
8x DVD
3 USB port (2 at right hand side and 1 at left)
1 HDMI port
1 VGA port
1 LAN port
Window 7 Home Premium (c/w Microsoft office stater pack)
2 years warranty

If that was A43SV specs, what we can expect from N43SL ?

i7 + GT550 2GB ?

I thought above spec reserve for N43... unsure.gif

I want to upgrade my ram... from 2gb to 4gb.
My question is, does my laptop supported dual channel ram? What is the best performance wise? Put another 2gb of any brand, or buy 2 pieces of identical ram?
Can someone recommend me brand that is stable for my laptop?
I can see... five main brands. Corsair,OCZ, MUSHKIN, TEAM ELITE and Kingston.
Any forumer/asus gurus please help me? icon_question.gif

My laptop spec:

A42JY-VX244

i3-370M-2.40GHz
14" HD Color Shine(LED)
2GB DDR3
320GB-5400rpm
AMD HD 6470 1GB DDR3

Thank you... wink.gif

depending on what usage you usually do. 4gb is actually good enough for normal usage and wont feel much different if your not into heavy multitasking or photoshop.

Planning to buy ASUS this upcoming PC Fair,
which one is the newer one, U45JC or U41JC
from what i see,
1.U45JC :has better sound (Altec Lansing with SRS sound,
            :RM no idea yet
2.U41JC:Ram can extend up to 8Gig;
            :Price :RM2999
ASUS gurus, which one better?
*
u gotta test hands on the speakers cause mostly is marketing strategy, my bro a52j altec is not that impressive imo, my n53s b&o is decent but not excellent too~

The CPU and GPU is not the main concern, because it can tolerate much higher heat than that, what concerns me that made me sold my A42Je is the harddrive temperature, just look at that, 48-49C is not a good sight at all, mine could reach 52C when gaming.

To compare, on 4743ZG right now while browsing no air conditioner and balanced profile

[attachmentid=2148071]

Exactly! I'm not surprised it's that high heat that leads to some of the hard drive problems some owners of the series are having. I wonder how much your HD temp will be if you used an SSD though.

The U45 is an older series, less powerful than the U41 and at a higher price as well. Altec Lansing with SRS sound is merely a gimmick. Mine has it too but they are soft and the sound quality is downright unimpressive.

Great to hear! It's a good model. SB proc with an Nvidia GT540M makes a powerful combination.

how confident are you with your statement ? biggrin.gif

i think it's absurd if asus don't sell an i7 based n43sl in malaysia.. given that they already have sold a43sv and n53sn with i7... furthermore what's the point of sticking only i5 in n43sl..? because 2nd gen i7 cpus are already everywhere here... to sell an i7 n43sl would only involve putting in the cpu into the laptop body

Thanks for the answers guys...
Anyway... i've checked my memory using cpuz program...
It shows...

DRAM FREQ : 532 MHZ
fsb:dram : 4:16
7-7-7-20-1t

but the max bandwidth is pc3-10700 (667 mhz)
manufactured by hynix...
it is ddr3-1066 or ddr3-1333?
confusing.... rclxub.gif

By the way....i've checked my i3-370m at intel website, and it can support up to 8gb of ram....
but asus said...just 2+2=4gb MAX...

Which is this true? Has anyone tried to put above recommended ram capacity? (Even though the proc can 'see' it?)

sorry for so many questions....newbie here. blush.gif

Well first off, your RAM frequency is showing 532MHz in CPU-Z but your real speed is actually double that so it's actually running around 1066MHz. I'm pretty sure your RAM is a stick of DDR3-1333 but then, since you're using an i3-370M, it limits it to 1066 only.

On paper it can support 8GB. Whether or not Asus decides to let you use all 8GB is a different matter.

hmm.. u41sv caught my attention.. my concern is will the build quality be the same as u41jf? if yes, then I'll give it a pass.. if not, i'll have some headache choosing n43sl or u41sv...

another thing is why don't asus put in more powerful proc in u41 series? it seems they always put in a "2nd most powerful proc available"... why not just put the "1st" aka i7?

Which is why I'm going to try before I buy the U41SV when it's out.

I'm pretty much guessing that the i7 guzzles up too much power for it to be entirely battery efficient. Besides, an i5 is pretty much good enough for most things a normal user can throw at it.

is the charger cover under warranty? or will I have to fork some money myself to buy a new one?

and if its under warranty will it be swap, or they will need to take it in and inspect/evaluate first?

It's for Asus Malaysia to decide.. And in a newspaper advertisement 1-2weeks ago already shown the specs for N53SL as i5 dual core..
And i7 in 14inch would be more expensive also and over rm3k.. We already have a A43Sv with i7 and 540M @rm2899
