In Malaysia, first u must attend MSS sports at secondary school level, then get selected from there, make it to MSSM and u will be scouted for harimau muda, if u fail to get scouted for harimau muda maybe u can get into state team.

The other way is to go for trials with clubs...felda utd, Proton fc....and others.

One more way is to join a low division club and play for president cup, you will be scouted there, provided if ur good.

Any other ways anyone has in mind?

can get scouted by tottenham scout in malaysia then prove yourself and get a place in tottenham then get transferred to your favorite years later. But outstanding performance is required.

This is a viable alternative. Football Focus has a partnership with them and if you can get yourself in their academy, you'll have the opportunity to train in England (at your own expense though). Can't see too many rural folk going for this but it's an opportunity of a lifetime if you consider your other options. Works best if you are spotted at an early age e.g. <12.

Local footballers do earn a decent wage but if you're committed and serious enough about making football a career, my personal preference would be to get into one of those academies with foreign origins where the football structure is a little more developed.

Indeed it's not easy to make a career out of football like other countries. Of course you'll need to know some people and decent football skills. All comes down to your determination to be a footballer. I was once thought of that too but I know reality just isn't far off from me and I dropped the dream I dream about it for more than 10 years.

even in other countries is not easy... 1000 young Brazilian went to Europe every year.. 700 of them return within a year... it takes a lot of passion , self believe and sacrifice to do it..

this is the real reason why our football development seem to be 'stuck'. Out of 10 pure talent.. maybe as much as 7 drop out of the game... the other 3 only do it because he does not have any other choice..

I don't think that notion is that it's easier become a professional in other countries. It's just that there are more entry points.

Let's forget about academies and semi-professional teams for a moment since the topic is about being a "professional football player". I'm going to use England as a comparison. They have a population of 51 million with 92 professional clubs spread over 4 divisions. We have a population of 27 million with 26 teams spread over 2 divisions. I know I'm just barely scratching the surface but this alone reflects your odds of being a professional. You also stand to earn more overseas so it's more lucrative, provided you don't get homesick and miss the food.

+1,and don't forget that contracts overseas are damn lucrative,I dunno about lower leagues players, but look at all our EPL players, they are earning maybe example 80,000 pounds a week, that's 320,000 pounds a month! If u change it to RM,that will be like,RM1,000,000 a month!

Akace is right, if u go oversea, u need to compete with their locals, which has better football education and already adapt to the football there. What makes them choose u over their locals? U got to be really outstanding....

actually i open this thread becoz im interested to become professional player. I dun know how much are my odds but im willing to give it a try. currently im playing in a team in Cheras League (organized by FAM), i hope i can take my game to the next level....seeking for advice.

Good to know that. Bro, all the best and live with your dream. So many of us dream of becoming a footballer once but many of us stop thinking that after given it many thoughts. We either get discouragement from family and friends or we just simply gave up. There are many footballers who had this in-born natural good game reader skill or what they called child prodigy when they were young and sooner grew up to be a footballer such as fabregas, nasri... There are good footballers who put through their hardwork into football skills and technique such as CR7 and ROoney....

But these guys went into football school when they are still a child....That doesn't mean one can't succeed without entering into all this kinda football school. Geniusity isn't really necessary when I said this. One of the best modern era example is current Arsenal defender Laurent Koscielny who started only at the age of 17. If you can get his feeling of stucking himself in atmosphere full of players who started to play since young... its really intimidating. Through hardwork and 'outstanding' performance... He adapted himself into the game, work even harder and harder. Signed by FC Lorient last year and didn't lose a single one-on-one challenge before got signed by his favorite club in England. So even foreigners will have their own side of story... Just work hard and believe it... and you will achieve. Like how Nike ads once put it.... 'take it to the next level' (very arsenal contagious ads but quite motivating...so far cant find one for MU)laugh.gif

those who won a chance for Nike Chance Trial get a trial training with some of the best coaches around the world.

It's like I said earlier, if you plan to have a stint overseas, you need to go when you are really young e.g. between 8 - 12 when you can be groomed in the basics. At 15-17, it's more like a trial than an education.

bro, your words makes me happy..

how are you self confidence playing in Cheras Leage? Feeling they are below standard? Have you tried to play in the Selangor League.. i think standard for amateur is much higher there...

While the big Super League Teams with resource and ambition usually poach or headhunt their players.. smaller teams usually held trials... i think Penang already wrapped up theirs.. but try to search around for other trials..

and if you think your self-confidence is skybooming, why not approach these people to take you.. the reward is ..brows.gif
