i know about the D3100...i wont mind about video...so...is the picture quality a big different?

Yes. Better and most shop don't carry D3000 anymore as D3100 price is the old price of D3000.

Totally agree, the D3100 is superior to D3000 in terms of sensor technology.

D3100 seems to be the best entry level at the moment, compared to 1000D (old body) and 550D perhaps.

Here is a good write up on flash sync speed to give some light on the subject matter. wink.gif

It's kinda funny to read about light having insufficient speed to reach the subject etc.. you need to know how the shutter works in the first place.. and the equivalent electronic shutters in DSLR.

BTW, I am a Nikon F2A user (yes a classic 'pro' film camera) and Coolpix 5700.

D3100's ISO performance is better than D3000, sensitivity up to 3200 and uses CMOS sensor while D3000 supports up to 1600 and uses CCD sensor wink.gif

I think the sensor is better than all existing Nikon DX sensor minus the new D7000.

Last night play with D7000. Feel it's slightly better than D90. Worth the penny to update ? Your call.
My friend now have D300s, D90 and D7000 in his house. Gonna do a test by this week or next week to fully torture the sensor.

p/s : I feel disappointed with D700 ISO performance under very low light. sad.gif

pop up flash can only support sync speed up until 1/200..
if u're using external flash then 1/4000 will be okay if the flash is powerful enough..

u guy know that light travels very fast right?
but after 1/250 the light wont be sufficient to reach the subject, esp when ur subject is far (when using pop up flash)
by getting an external flash, u can get power.. the flash will add more power to the flash/light that will make sure the light reaches the subject to catch up with the 1/4000 shutter..

but not all external flash can do it...
in nikon, its know as FP, its automatically enabled in sb600, sb700 and sb900.. other model ie sb30, sb400 i havent check yet..

thatis the logical part of the answer..
for the more 'technologycal' part u have to wait for someone else expert to explain..

thanks dude. i'll study abit more for sure smile.gif
