No need to since I use a Canon DSLR which has the EOS Utility and the EOS Webcam software (I have a friend who tried to use an Elgato capture card with her Canon 5D MkIII but the DSLR kept powering off). Also, you would need to have the camera constantly connected to a power source.

I have been running fine with my 5D Mk2 at 50fps and smooth playback. I use the feed paired within OBS to broadcast out to other software like Zoom and Google Meets (for my meetings). Since software is free, why not go and test it first?
