It's here, the first real trailer for gritty 40s detective game L.A. Noire and it's going to blow you away.

I've always been bothered by how out of sync, how unreal, digital actors look in video games. That's exacerbated in the sorts of games they expect you to read anything into the folks you run into in a game.

Imagine trying to tell if someone is lying to you when they're wearing an ill-fitting rubber mask. That's essentially the issue with most dialog-heavy video games, until now. If Rockstar is to be believed, this is a game created to "render every subtlety and nuance of an actor's facial expressions and emotions."

Why does that matter? Because in L.A. Noire you play a detective in the Los Angeles of the 1940s. Rockstar says the game has you trying to solve crimes through a "blend of classic action, clue-finding and interrogation, allowing players to analyze every subtle nuance of an actor's performance in order to get to the truth."

If they can do it, if these aren't just canned animations, then L.A. Noire could become an important piece of interactive fiction. More importantly, it could be one of the first games that allows you to use some of the real-world skills investigators tap into to solve crime.

It's worth pointing out that the game will include Mad Men's Aaron Stanton as lead officer, Cole Phelps, Fringe's John Noble, and a cast of "esteemed actors," working alongside director Michael Uppendahl (Mad Men), according to Rockstar.

L.A. Noire, the groundbreaking new crime thriller developed in a special partnership between Rockstar Games and Team Bondi, will be available on the PlayStation 3 on May 17th, 2011

Rockstar has released the first update patch for its latest blockbuster, LA Noire, for PS3.

The update (version 1.00) fixes a bunch of unspecified gameplay and graphical glitches, as well as plot and voice issues, and improvements in stat-tracking (full change list below).

The update makes no mention of the issues with overheating consoles that have been reported. Rockstar on Friday denied "erroneous" reports that the game is causing PS3 consoles to overheat.

Patch change list:

- Fixes for several in-game store issues including age-verification for DLC purchases
- Fixes for minor gameplay bugs and graphical issues
- Fixes for several minor plot/objective/conversation issues
- Improvements in stat-tracking and Social-Club integration

The following guide will walk you through how to find all 50 Gold Film Reels in L.A. Noire in the shortest amount of time possible. Right after the guide are four YouTube videos that will show you exactly what the guide is talking about. Collect all 50 Gold Film Reels and you'll earn a Trophy in the Playstation 3 version.

Hollywood

1. The Big Sleep Golden Film Reel - Located under a water tower at the west end of Hollywood Blvd. The Big Sleep Golden Film Reel is easy to spot as there is a trolley track that circles the tower it resides under.

2. Nightmare Alley Golden Film Reel - You will need to find the shopping center near the intersection of Franklin Avenue and Ivar Avenue. Just to the left of this center is a huge billboard for "Capt'n Saltee Potato Chips" with three dumpsters underneath it. Follow the dumpsters along to the right to spot the Nightmare Alley Golden Film Reel on the other side of the railing..

3. Brute Force Golden Film Reel - Find the football field located at the end of a street that offshoots from Scrader Blvd. in a residential area. The Brute Force Golden Film Reel is on the sidewalk right in front of where you would walk down to the field.

4. The Letter Golden Film Reel - Go to the intersection of Selma Avenue and Las Palmas Avenue, then walk one block east. You'll find a little side street with red brick rather than pavement. Spot the first set of stairs on the left and find The Letter Golden Film Reel at the top of the staircase after curling around to the right.

5. Gilda Golden Film Reel - Next you will go to the intersection of Cahuenga Boulevard and De Longpre Avenue. Spot the gas station and immediately walk around behind it. The Gilda Golden Film Reel is just to the left of the lone dumpster right on the back of the gas station.

6. Where The Sidewalk Ends Golden Film Reel - Locate the movie theater on Sunset Avenue between Argyle Avenue and El Centro Avenue that has The Lady From Shanghai and The Big Sleep on the marquee. Walk toward the front doors and find the Where The Sidewalk Ends Golden Film Reel just behind the center column that obstructs its view from the sidewalk and road.

7. In A Lonely Place Golden Film Reel - Find the putt-putt golf course at the corner of El Centro Avenue and Santa Monica Boulevard. Walk to the 8th hole which is shaped like a ping pong paddle. The In A Lonely Place Golden Film Reel is located right next to the hole.

8. Sunset Boulevard Golden Film Reel - Head about a block east from the far west end of Melrose Avenue. If facing west you'll find a little courtyard between two buildings. The Sunset Boulevard Golden Film Reel is right in front of a tree in the middle of the courtyard.

9. The Women In The Window Golden Film Reel - Star at the corner of Wilton Place and Lemongrove. To the south and just west are a series of what look like duplexes. Go behind them and find the The Women In The Window Golden Film Reel sitting on a picnic table.

10. The Spiral Staircase Golden Film Reel - Go just east of the corner of Wilton Place and Santa Monica Avenue. On the north side is a playground with a slide and swings. In front of the swings and close to the road is a bird bath. The Spiral Staircase Golden Film Reel sits in front of the bird bath.

11. Odd Man Out Golden Film Reel - On the far east end of the map, move to the corner of Sunset Blvd. and St. Andrews Place. One block south is a small residential street with lots of parking in front of homes. Run to the end of the street and then behind the dark green house on the left. The Odd Man Out Golden Film Reel is sitting on this house's porch.

12. The Night Of The Hunter Golden Film Reel - Go to Fountain Avenue and head toward the eastern end until you find the Hillside Motel on the left. Run to the back of the motel and find the The Night Of The Hunter Golden Film Reel sitting on one of the pool's corners.

Willshire

13. The Narrow Margin Golden Film Reel - Go the middle of Hobart Boulevard and look for an unnamed intersection. On the north end of the street is a large house with a detached gray two-car garage. Run behind the house, to the right of the pool, and find the Narrow Margin Golden Film Reel at the base of a fountain.

14. White Heat Golden Film Reel - This one is a little trickier. Head to the middle of Mariposa Avenue, directly east on the map where you would line up with Lemongrove Avenue if it didn't end. There are apartment buildings there with green first floors. Find the stairs to the second level near a curved window. Hang a left at the top of the stairs and find the White Heat Golden Film Reel at the end of the walkway.

15. Thieves' Highway Golden Film Reel - Start on Rosewood Avenue, directly between where that street intersects with Kingsly Drive and Harvard Avenue. Enter the drive-in restaurant door and the Thieves' Highway Golden Film Reel is on the counter, toward the middle where the cash register sits.

16. Crossfire Golden Film Reel - This time, start on Heliotrobe Drive just south of the intersection with Melrose Avenue. Spot the Cola King billboard, run under it, and find the Crossfire Golden Film Reel on the pavement near where some trailers are parked and attached to the back of a building.

17. M Golden Film Reel - From the intersection of Rosewood Avenue and Berendo Street, run down the side street with wooden fences on either side and distressed pavement. On the right is a three-story yellow building with green trim. The house just past this building has a see-saw in its backyard. The M Golden Film Reel is under the see-saw.

18. The Killers Golden Film Reel - Head to 1st Street where numerous homes are under construction. The Killers Golden Film Reel is inside one of the homes that borders directly on 1st Street.

19. The Set-Up Golden Film Reel - Start at the intersection of Berendo Street and 6th Street. There's a yellow house with blue trim and a red house next to one another. Run down the walkway between the homes and find the Set-Up Golden Film Reel on the back porch of the yellow home.

20. The Lady From Shanghai Golden Film Reel - Go to where Council Street ends into 1st Street. There's a baseball field there, and The Lady From Shanghai Golden Film Reel awaits perched on the pitcher's mound.

21. Laura Golden Film Reel - Take Second Street from Vermont Avenue and then hang a left on the only street that appears before Second Street curls to the right. Follow this street until it curls to the right, and then look for a small alley between a brown and white fence on the left. At the end of this alley is a park, and the Laura Golden Film Reel sits on a picnic table just past the playground equipment.

22. The Third Man Golden Film Reel - Toward the eastern end of Beverly Boulevard, right before it curves to the right, and run alongside the large red brick building. Jump the fence in the back, then follow the winding dirt path until you see The Third Man Golden Film Reel under a tree.

23. The Killing Golden Film Reel - At the corner of Hoover Street and 6th Street is a big church. Enter the front courtyard area of the church just in front of the entrance, and find The Killing Golden Film Reel toward the left against the church.

24. Shadow Of A Doubt Golden Film Reel - Head toward the end of Coronado Street and hang a left down the road bordered by fences. Run down this road a ways until you see small airplane hangars ahead. Enter the hangar between two red airplanes and find the Shadow Of A Doubt Golden Film Reel in front of the plane inside the hangar.

Central West

25. Night And The City Golden Film Reel - At the corner of Wilshire Boulevard and Alvarado Street is the lake below. Jump the barrier, run down to it and across the water (it only comes up to your waist) to the gazebo in the middle. The Night And The City Golden Film Reel is in the gazebo.

26. The Big Clock Golden Film Reel - Off of Grand View Street is a side street that weaves left and right. Follow this street to its end (drive it as it takes awhile) and run toward the white ranch house on the left. The Big Clock Golden Film Reel is sitting on the house's front stoop.

27. Murder, My Sweet Golden Film Reel - Start at the intersection of 9th Street and Burlington Avenue. From there, head down the alley bordered by the fence and businesses on the right. When you enter a concrete clearing hang a right, find the steps going down into a parking area, and the Murder, My Sweet Golden Film Reel will be under a tree at the bottom of the steps.

28. The Naked City Golden Film Reel - From the intersection of Bonnie Brae Street and Beverly Boulevard, head south and spot a blue and white house with a porch on its north face. Follow the porch and find The Naked City Golden Film Reel at the porch's far end.

29. Sweet Smell Of Success Golden Film Reel - At the corner of 3rd Street and Union are several small roads and a construction site with a big hole in the ground. On the other side of the hole is some construction equipment and the Sweet Smell Of Success Golden Film Reel is sitting amongst it.

30. Rififi Golden Film Reel - Start at the road just east of 6th Street and Witmer. Head north, then down the first alley to the left. There will be a light blue house with white trim that has the Rififi Golden Film Reel just to the right of its front door.

31. This Gun For Hire Golden Film Reel - Get on the Beverly Boulevard bridge just west of Glendale Boulevard. On the east end of the bridge, run through the broken fence and into a construction area. There's a framed wooden structure that you can walk across. At the end of this structure is the This Gun For Hire Golden Film Reel.

32. Mildred Pierce Golden Film Reel - Drive into the train track tunnel at Beverly Boulevard and Lucas Avenue. About halfway down the tunnel, or 30ish seconds, is a small area off to the left. The Mildred Pierce Golden Film Reel is sitting on the ground just inside this area.

33. The Big Carnival Golden Film Reel - Starting from the corner of 9th Street and Figuroa Street, head down a small side street just to the west and you'll see a gray house with bay windows on either side. Find the Big Carnival Golden Film Reel right between those windows.

34. Out Of The Past Golden Film Reel - Head to the most northern point of Hill Street and enter the trolley station. The Out Of The Past Golden Film Reel will be found on the pavement between a set of tracks.

Central East

35. Key Largo Golden Film Reel - On the eastern edge of the map, find the road that looks like a question mark and drive up it. Find a large farm shack on the right and the Key Largo Golden Film Reel on the left side of its porch.

36. Leave Her To Heaven Golden Film Reel - Just to the southeast of the question mark road from the previous Golden Film Reel is an intersection with a nasty pool you can access through a small open building. The Leave Her To Heaven Golden Film Reel is under a tree back behind the building next to the pool.

37. The Maltese Falcon Golden Film Reel - Get on Grand Avenue, about a block northeast of 1st Street. Find the "Bakers" sign and run behind the fence that is right behind that sign. The The Maltese Falcon Golden Film Reel is behind the fence.

38. The Big Heat Golden Film Reel - Stand at the intersection of 3rd Street and Hill Street and run up the hill and stairs alongside the train track that goes up the hill. At the hill's top is a small station and The Big Heat Golden Film Reel is on the ground of this station.

39. Touch Of Evil Golden Film Reel - Start at the corner of Broadway and 6th Street and run behind the Los Angeles Theatre down a side alley. Climb up a pole and then two ladders to reach the roof. Find the Touch Of Evil Golden Film Reel at the far end of the roof.

40. The Asphalt Jungle Golden Film Reel - From 6th Street and Los Angeles Street, run up to the top of the train station. Find The Asphalt Jungle Golden Film Reel right as two tracks split at the end of the station.

41. Angels With Dirty Faces Golden Film Reel - Spot a big building under construction at the corner of Spring Street and 2nd Street. Climb up the ladder to the second floor, run around the building to the right and find the Angels With Dirty Faces Golden Film Reel inside a small shed.

42. Strangers Of A Train Golden Film Reel - Begin at the intersection of Main Street and 2nd Street. There's a ticket booth at the entrance to a parking lot. Run along the building just behind the ticket booth, hang a left when the walkway ends and the Strangers Of A Train Golden Film Reel is just around the corner.

43. Pickup On South Street Golden Film Reel - Go to Union Station on Alameda Street. Enter the station and find the Pickup On South Street Golden Film Reel on the gift shop counter to the right side of the station interior.

44. House Of Bamboo Golden Film Reel - From the corner of Alameda Street and 1st Street, break through the "No Parking" fence gate and drive into the warehouse. Stop when you spot a staircase on either side and go up the one to the right. At the top, hang a right and grab the House Of Bamboo Golden Film Reel right before the catwalk turns left.

45. Scarlet Street Golden Film Reel - Begin at Alameda Street and Palmetto Street, run down Palmetto and make the first right into a parking area behind industrial buildings. There are two dumpsters hiding around a corner to the left and the Scarlet Street Golden Film Reel sits in front of them.

46. Detour Golden Film Reel - Stand at the corner of Alameda Street and Bay Street and run toward the train station. There are two red train cars, and the Detour Golden Film Reel is hiding between them.

47. Gun Crazy Golden Film Reel - Get on 1st Street and go as east until you spot a "K" gas station right before the end of the street. Run behind the gas station, across the train tracks and spot the Gun Crazy Golden Film Reel next to a water tower that has a large pipe sticking into the ground.

48. Body And Soul Golden Film Reel - From 7th Street and Santa Fe, go down under the bridge that crosses the Los Angeles River. There's a doorway into the bridge column with stairs that you follow to the top. Come out in a parking garage with homeless people and find the Body And Soul Golden Film Reel about halfway down on the far right side.

49. Double Indemnity Golden Film Reel - Get on 7th Street and take it east until it ends into a road that borders the left side of the map. Go south on that road and break through the red and white gate on the right into a military base. Run behind the first building on the left and find the firing range. The Double Indemnity Golden Film Reel is on one of about 10 wooden tables at the range.

50. Notorious Golden Film Reel - Instead of going all the way to the end of 7th Street, do the same on Olympic Boulevard. Go south on the same unnamed border road and go south until you can hang a right down a dirt road. Drive down the road until you reach a large open warehouse with lumber in it. Find the warehouse office on the left side and the Notorious Golden Film Reel on the floor in the office.

Developed by Team Bondi, a new Australian based studio founded by Brendan McNamara, of The Getaway, L.A Noire is an interactive detective story set in the classic noir period of the late 1940's. L.A. Noire blends action, detection and complex storytelling and draws players into an open-ended challenge to solve a series of gruesome murders. Set in a perfectly recreated Los Angeles before freeways, with a post-war backdrop of corruption, drugs and jazz, L.A. Noire will truly blend cinema and gaming.

I think it is a sandbox game...

some parts of the trailer look to be inspired from the movie LA Confidential.

from IGN:
Will L.A. Noire live up to the hype and be one of the best games of 2011?

Here's what we know:
1. Rockstar has a proven track record (GTA, Bully, Red Dead Redemption, etc.)
2. L.A. Noire is something different than what Rockstar has done before (Hardboiled detectives, not rampant free-roaming violence)
3. It stars Aaron Staton, better known as Ken Cosgrove on Mad Men
4. There's some cool new tech being used to create realistic lip-synching and facial animations
5. It's coming pretty soon, maybe as early as April 2011!

no4 is pretty interesting and a step up for the industry! rclxms.gif

2011 looks to be crazy for games: dungeon siege 3, 2 worlds 2, demon's souls 2 (presumably), ff13vs, ff14, batman and now this! rclxm9.gif icon_idea.gif drool.gif

Spring is from March, April and May.

I estimate it to be around March 2011 because that is the time when all the hot games will be out. So prepare your wallets!

If some of you don't know what "Noire" means, watch something like L.A. Confidential to understand.

'Noire' films are basically police drama/thriller set in the 1940s and 1950s.

Mafia 2 also took 5 years to develop
if they pull this off, and more successful than Mafia 2, Rockstar games will rise to a whole new heights.

looking forward to this game. hopefully they will release the game in 720P and increase the eye candy for the in-game graphic. Not like GTAIV, it's on 1080P but the graphic is not that good. RDR is way better in terms of graphic when compared to GTA. I don't mind having the game at 720P but with greater details as in RDR.

Looking ahead, our cover story is a ten-page expose on what’s sure to be one of the biggest games of early 2011. We got to dig deeper than anyone else into L.A. Noire’s cinematic landscape, experiencing an exclusive case and chatting with the minds behind Rockstar’s ambitious game. The technology alone is impressive enough, using a proprietary scanning system to capture facial expressions the player is then supposed to “read” as part of the game. (It’s a detective story, so interrogation plays a key role.) That’s nifty enough, but it’s the ambition behind the storytelling and the world-building that really captured my attention. It’s an inelegant comparison, perhaps, but L.A. Noire is poised to be this year’s Heavy Rain in terms of its ambition and promise.

they better have 720p reso for the PS3 and not another shitty Xbox port or else I'm gonna rage.

RDR's graphics for the PS3 is so lackluster.

Rockstar didn't annouce anything about multiplayer in this game. But it's a day one purchase for me, regardless if there's any multiplayer gameplay or not.

Agreed. Even without MP, the game is really worth it. I'm just wondering how would the MP game would be when the game revolves around detectives world. I am hoping for something creative rclxms.gif

Hmmm the shootout gameplay reminds me of Mafia 2 lolz.

Graphics looks great for an open world game, standard quality from Rockstar as i see.

Facial expression does look amazing in this game,i hope it has a decent/long storyline...most important for me...

Anyone who have watched Detective Conan can fin the game in 1 day i think LOLZ.

Last but not least i hope this won't be like RDR all over again. :/

Man, just look at the facial expressions. They're effing good.

I also like the fact the this will be more story-driven than sandbox like RDR and GTA4.
http://www.playfire.com/a/forum/la-noire/thread/91301

Sandbox style games tend to get boring after a while for me.

You will need to be patient when you play L.A. Noire. You're a detective, not a soldier; a crime-solver, not a crime-committer.

There will be action in the Rockstar/Team Bondi game that finally comes out for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 next week. Here is the game's official launch trailer, filled with gunplay.

Nah, in the sense if you were to compare between a US and UK tv series, UK is horribly short. haha.

But reading through that if it takes 3 360 discs, the data should take around 25 to 30 hours. Its gonna be a fun ride. haha.

With L.A. Noire releasing in less than a week, a lot gamers who are picking up the game on the PS3 are wondering if L.A. Noire will have a big install like GTA IV.

For gamers who still have a small hard drive on their PS3, they will be pleased to know that L.A. Noire will have an install but it’s not big that players will have to delete another game’s data. Instead of having a 5GB install, L.A Noire will only take 1.3GB of your hard drive space. Yes! with a game so big, I am surprised to see the game only having a 1.3GB install.

will there be differences in content between r1 and r3? dlc or extra missions?

I think the initial DLC are different for each region, but Rockstar did mention that all DLC will be made available on PSN. Other than that the rest of the content should be the same.

Team Bondi used PS3 as lead platform for L.A. Noire

L.A. Noire was created using Sony’s PlayStation 3 as the lead platform and later ported over to Xbox 360, developer Team Bondi’s revealed.

The hotly-anticipated thriller was originally pegged as a PS3-exclusive, before Rockstar parent publisher Take-Two announced plans for 360 version back in 2008.

"For this project, we led on PlayStation 3, and in a way I think that's what most people are doing,” Team Bondi boss Brendan McNamara told 1UP. "We found out that people were doing 360 and then trying to get stuff across to PS3 and were struggling with it.”

"There seems to be less of a struggle to go the other way, I think. You hear things that you have to put a lot of effort into on PS3 and get it up and running pretty quickly on the 360. Then, like everyone else you have to scramble to get your framerate up."

As for why Team Bondi opted to make a 360 version, McNamara pointed to the fact the Aussie dev has a history of dipping its toes into the multiplatform pool.

"I think it was an obvious decision. We'd always been -- apart from Psygnosis which was for Sony -- we always made multiplatform stuff. But essentially, for some 10 years at Sony, we were an internal shop. We knew the PlayStation 2 and PlayStation 3 stuff pretty well, and for us it was a change. But for Rockstar they'd done a lot of that."

L.A. Noire will be released in North America on May 17, with a European launch following on May 20.

Then again, when did IGN started becoming relevant again?

I rather see Metacritic for true reviews.Rather then just see IGN/GT alone.Metacritic scores 91 right now.

They have to pay rent which is why their prices are higher, duh. And I bought Nier there for RM80 so not all their games are expensive. "Conman shop" is just a tad bit harsh.

If there's only one dislike that I ahve with the game, its just one.

Replay value.

MUch like heavy rain, once you already know the whole stick, its done with.

The only joy is however, to replay this over and over again looking at all the hardwork poured into the 2200 pages of scripting.

Actually I read this article. tongue.gif

Also, if I may suggest to everyone,

Either play the game slowly and take your sweet time (regardless of the hours you can take to finish it), or play it thoroughly. because most of us can't bear to wait another 5 YEARS for this game to come out again.

(Anyone who remember the 2006 E3 conference on the PS3 would know what I mean. tongue.gif)

this game no multiplayer?

i thought it had multiplayer like RDR or GTA4. oh well, still, i prioritize single player experience more than multiplayer xD

Also, if I may suggest to everyone,

Either play the game slowly and take your sweet time (regardless of the hours you can take to finish it), or play  it thoroughly. because most of us can't bear to wait another 5 YEARS for this game to come out again.

(Anyone who remember the 2006 E3 conference on the PS3 would know what I mean. tongue.gif)

hmm

ive gone 1 h 12 minutes into the game and already my game progress is 4/21 cases solved... 10.xx % game completion

i was like wtf ? so fast ?

the first 3 "cases" ended way too fast or shud i say i tot i was on my 1st case by the time i completed the murder case....

wat confused me is the abrupt end at the beginning case where i was investigating in an apartment... it jump straight to some flashbacks and here i am.. starting on another case... i was like... wth

so far so good... the only thing i don like is controlling where cole shud be facing .. so i can pick up those evidence to solve my case...

nvm.. read gamefaqs that the 1st 3 cases were meant to be very short tongue.gif only the 4th offers a more comprehensive investigation

traffic cases very quick and easy. thats why finish so fast.

i am in my third detective case and i am already bored. it's a more polished version of csi: fatal conspiracy with an open world concept and much better production values.

feels like a 40s noir television drama but fark me, each case almost ends the same way (someone throw stuff at u/shoot at u and u have to chase the sob).

zzzzzz

Added on May 18, 2011, 11:31 pmand to kyo, to each his own and maybe it's just me but reading whether a person is lying or not is VERY easy 9 out of 10 times because 9 out of 10 times, all u need to do is see if the person is looking straight at u (truth) or eyes wondering.

if u have evidence - LIE
if no evidence - DOUBTFUL.

sorry but i am not convinced. sad.gif

Actually true. That's the subtle cues of body language. haha. Its mostly on the eyes really.

But yeah to each his own mang. The premise of the whole game was made to be simple also frankly.

My review:

So far i played until my 3rd detective case and the facial animations in this game is incredible and so is the voice acting. the musical score is also fantastic. It feels like you are in a detective movie. Graphics are very nice and there are no frame rate issues. The game is open world and plays just like Grand Theft Auto but much tighter and more refined. When getting into the drivers seat, you will open your note book and decides what location is going to be your destination. En-route to these destinations, you will hear calls out for police assistance, provided you’re driving a Police Car, and can then either respond or ignore the call which turns into a side mission. The side missions vary from something as routine as stopping someone from committing suicide to putting an end to a hostage taking. They’re fun and a nice distraction from the overall story – another thing to note about the side missions is they help raise your rank in the police force and earning you more intuition points which come in handy with your investigations.

When interrogating suspects or witnesses, you have 3 responses Lie, Doubt and Truth. All of which will have different responses. You have to really pay attention to who they’re talking to as the NPC will display certain responses if they’re giving the truth, unsure or lying. All I can say is pay attention to their eyes they tell a whole lot. If you’re completely unsure, you can go back and look over the evidence and notes before making the decision or your detective’s intuition. Using intuition uses a point to remove one answer giving the user a 50/50 shot at making the right guess.

If you are looking for high paced action, you may be disappointed as LA Noire is really about the atmosphere, story and the homage being paid to the movies this game so heavily draws inspiration from. LA Noire has managed to find the perfect balance between detective work and action. This is one of those rare games that tries to do something a little different than the norm and succeeds. This is a must buy game. The only thing bad about it is, there is no multi-player.

Score: 9/10.

Owh. hurm, this is tough.

But I can say that the gameplay is simple. Perhaps a little too simple. So yeah, may not be your cup of tea. But Los Angeles looks fantastic. At least to me tho.

FYI, GTA was made for 360 first and PS3 second. That's why the graphic is not so good.

But in the case of LA Noire, it was made for PS3 first and the graphics, like Kyo said is simply amazing.

I am on 3.61 and I have no problems with the game.

That news you read was about older fat ps3 breaking down after they installed 3.61 and playing LA Noire.

This can only mean LA Noire is one of those few games like UC2 that can actually kill older ps3 consoles because of the high end graphics. sweat.gif

The homicide case series has a neat twist at the end of the final homicide case but for all of the five cases, they almost ended the same way (chase person -> shoot car/person).

I have no idea where the WWII flashbacks are going but i am not impressed so far. Thank goodness I could skip driving sequences out of pure boredom.

this is only an issue if you have older fat ps3. i am using slim ps3 and i don't have this issue.

A statement released on Rockstar's forums—and since retracted by the company—gave the following explanation to consumers complaining of console problems while playing the game.

QUOTE
We have received some reports of PS3s overheating while playing L.A. Noire or beeping three times before shutting down/turning themselves off, mostly on older 60GB and 80GB fat models.

Primary reports seem to be that updating to firmware 3.61 will cause PlayStations to overheat. There have been various reports of this on a few different games now, all reporting their PS3s turning off or 'Red Lighting' after having installed 3.61.

This can range from games randomly freezing to PS3s turning off anywhere between 30 mins use to 2 hours. We have confirmed locally that multiple games (Rockstar and non-Rockstar) overheat or freeze only when 3.61 is installed.

After sending mixed signals last night that PlayStation 3 firmware 3.61 was causing some PS3s to overheat while running L.A. Noire, Rockstar Games said today that the firmware isn't the culprit.

QUOTE
"We have received a very small number of customer support questions about PS3's overheating or shutting down while playing L.A. Noire," the company said in a statement on its blog which is jointly attributed to PS3 maker Sony. " At this time, Rockstar Games and Sony can confirm that neither L.A. Noire or firmware update 3.61 are causing the PS3 hardware to overheat. We are both committed to working hard to find solutions to this and any issues that may arise."

This game is for Mature players only (18+) and is not for kids. No option to turn off blood but like Pepper said, you can switch the display to black & white.

Kind of iffy in buying the game, since I'm on the fat ps3. Didn't have problem playing Tales of Graces f for 4 hours straight, but then again the graphics of both game can't be compared.

playing this game reminds me more of this:

the facial animations of this game are amazing and i guess rockstar will probably use this technology in GTA5.

There's some guy here with a 40gb fat ps3 and he says he don't have any problems. I recommend you get this game if you like detective stories.

Hey there people, I have been seeing stories online saying that people playing L.A Noire makes their PS3 overheat and shut off. Anyone experienced before?

Check garage sales under games forum. Plenty of sellers over there selling the game online.

An additional case for the LA Noire detective game is on its way in June. Coupons from some of the game's launch events indicate that a batch of new missions entitled Nicholson Electroplating will be available via the PlayStation Network from June 21.

All 50 film reels are located at places that you will not go to during your cases. Better follow the guide above. Some could get really tricky to locate especially the one located in the subway tunnel.

Frankly it'd be great if we could also partake as the villain. Cleaning up the crime scene as much as possible. Try to steer away from evidences when being interrogated.

There will still be a conversation on the case even if you let your partner drive. Once the conversation is over then it will load the next scene.

I don't think so..to my understanding, the use of fingerprints for identification and evidence was introduced in the US very early in the 1900s before the world war..plus if you notice, the game also got use some fingerprint identification, just look at thier driving licence cards..Plus if you can remember, in the game where the BD killer sent in those letters to the police via the taxi cab, they were looking for prints and said that it was impossible as it was wiped off with some alcohol or petroleum (Can't really remember)..

Anyway i found this comic strip to be funny lol:

Maybe can put more guides in the 1st page, like newspaper locations, vehicles, landmarks etc?

Sounds Like L.A. Noire’s Publisher Wants L.A. Noire 2 and L.A. Noire 3

L.A. Noire just came out and no one behind the game has made any official announcements about an L.A. Noire sequel, but this is what Strauss Zelnick, head of Take Two, had to say about L.A. Noire on a call with investors today: "We have every reason to believe that L.A. Noire is another strong franchise for this company." And... "We do see this as a powerful new franchise." This man sounds like he's ready for sequels. No word from the game's developers at Team Bondi and Rockstar if they want to do it again.

Agent is a Cold War-era espionage game. The game is still very early in development and there is not much news about it.

However, Rockstar may make an annoucement about Max Payne 3 at E3.

because during the 1940's the camera is so big unlike modern digital cameras which you can easily put into your pocket.

how do you expect phelps to run around catching bad guys carrying a huge camera? laugh.gif

If FOX gives them the license to do games based on X-Files or Fringe, that would be awesome! Sci-Fi fans would be cumming all over the place if Rockstar made an X-Files or Fringe game using the graphics engine of LA Noir.

Well..judging from the evidence pointed out, it is most likely matt parkman is the killer but putting him in jail nets you a low score..
And when you put the other guy in jail instead you get a full score for pleasing your boss..
The moral of the story is, pleasing your boss is the most effective way to get your stars tongue.gif

Not necessary, cause i think i played some of case where i didn't pick up some clue and still get 5 star for it and in order to get 5 star is to get all the interrogation answers right.

Do what your boss told you even thought you know he is wrong, like in real life. laugh.gif
