Hi I'm doing major renovation for my house, today I when to check the hot water piping. They install stainless steel piping instead of copper piping for my hot water. They said SS is better than copper. Need advise on this. Is this true or my contractor try to cheat me???. But original quote is copper installation.

seldom ppl use SS due to the price, are you really sure ur contractor is giving u SS? SS is better thatz y it is more exp.

Added on November 10, 2010, 10:26 pmHowever sometimes also nd to c quality, some SS might b thin and low grade SS. SS has many grades 316, 304 and etc. So a good quality and reliable Copper pipe brand will b better than a poor quality SS.

Btw, there are also something call copper chrome pipe. Scare the contractor give u copper chrome but tell u is stainless steel but since they charge u copper pipe price den it should be OK. Just weird, why they quoted copper but give SS so good.

SS should be better, at least its way more durable compared to copper pipe.

However, copper pipe is more flexible.

They wont give 316

Try SS Sch 40 welded pipe G304... make sure it is approved by SIRIM. see marking on the pipe. Common brand should be Kanzen Tetzu, SUperinox, Tan Timur etc

Not sure about that but what I saw on the cylinder is HOTO BS EN10312:02 1.4301 / 15.0x0. 6x6000 B714-300 PH009601. It show Sirim logo too. So not sure whether this is the correct 304.

Correct... it is approved... but not its conduit property, but structural property....

But the fact is this... HOTO is manufacturer of ORNAMENTAL stainless steel pipe used for structural steel or gate/door pipe... NOT water conduit.

http://www.hoto.com/product_range.php

the HOTO type is only RM 35.00 compared to the RM 95.00 that I mentioned

So, you see, RM 35.00 SS is cheaper than RM 50.00 copper pipe.

True, SS is better than Copper. But also have to see what type of SS pipe

Definately your contractor is not honest.....

So, your case is akin to this scenario....

You opened a starbuck shop. But take coffe bean from malaysia typical wet market

wow...sch40 of SS is thick.... in factory, 20 barg of pressure only use sch10. If u wanna use SS, just to ensure the piping design as there should be no to let the water trapped inside the pipe. Just in case if the trapped water got chloride, ur SS pipe will be gone!!!

well, RM 2.8k is inclusive of what? Average rate is RM 600 per bathroom for shower point only. Price is inclusive of hacking and installing copper pipes only. Tiling work excluded.

THat is the quote for solar piping actually, my plumber will connect all the copper piping above the ceiling as well. Price is based on normal terrace link house. If bunglow or semi d might just need to add a little bit more like three bathrooms Rm 600 x 3 = RM 1800 then add another RM 200, total RM 2k.

Guys,
Mine is a 2.5 storey hse with 6 baths. The water pressure is rather poor so I guess I need a pump to boost the pressure. I'm also installing solar water heater system. What would be a good water pump brand and configuration.

Thanx
