u can call them again. ask for their postman hp number. try not to sound angry but sound as if u're in some trouble n sad n u will get the number.

u can oso lie a bit (if its way past the delivery time), said u got the note JUST NOW (even though u didn't get it), and tell them u wanna go n meet the postman urself before he leave ur area.

last time i did that n it worked, i call the office, and said i need to do something n probably just say u need to know where their despatch is before u go out.

if u frequently use their service, u will actually know their delivery pattern. for my area it's usually around 10am-2pm. n usually the postman will stop by a petrol station near my house to reorganize his delivery items before going back to the HQ.

or...if you really need that parcel in a hurry, just ask ur relative/friend to get it for u . u can just ask them to hold up the item longer n tell them the time frame.
