Dear one and all

As you see, our climate has changed drastically and I believe it's getting worse. No matter which country you are living in...If you are able to plant a tree in your garden, please do so. If not, then at least pass this email to other's who might be able to do so. If everyone of us do our part in some way to help mother earth to survive, she will survive... it's better then doing nothing about it or leaving it to others to do it.

Dear All,

NASA reports, by the next 10 months, earth gets hotter by 4 degrees from now.
The Himalayan glaciers are melting at a rapid rate.
So all of you lend your hands to fight Global Warming.
We have to take the following steps :

Plant more trees.

Don't waste water

Water is a precious resource

Don't Use or Burn PLASTIC.

Hold back or go prepared to counter temptation with a cloth bag.

Planting a tree may make you feel better, but practically, it does not do very much.

There are many other things you can do.

SAVE THE EARTH
This is the kind of false rumour my mom loves to tell me. When I tell her I'm skeptical, she says I am stubborn and don't listen to her.

The problems with this is

1) It's a chain email. Chain emails are evil and bad. Never pass them on. I don't pass on chain sms either.

2) 4 degrees over 10 months is a bit too large and too fast. I don't even need to check the Nasa website to tell that it is either false or an exaggeration.

3) There's no link to the NASA website that says this, or even a reference to a publication. Makes me suspect somebody just made it up.

4) Realistically, individual people cannot "plant more trees". Some lives in flats and apartments. Many in link houses have concreted over their tiny front lawn. Even if it's not concreted over, they're usually much too tiny to hold any trees. Only people in rural areas, or rich people with large landed properties can do this.

In fact, most of the people reading this probably will just skip this one.

5) How does wasting water increase/decrease global warming? It might cause water shortages, leading to people suffering though.

6) Very few people burn plastics. In fact, you should not burn anything to dispose of them. Plastics and non-plastics. Burning anything introduces pollutants into the air, which will shorten your life, your kids' lifes, and your neighbours'.

But plastic is in fact a good material for many things. Think of the keyboard you are typing on. Or the lunch box I use to bring my lunch to work today. If you meant plastic bags ...

Filling up the landfills with used plastic bags do not actually have any effect on global warming. In fact it might have a negative effect in that it reduces global warming. Each additional plastic bag that goes into a landfill, is just a little bit of the petrol that does not get burn and gets release as CO2 into the atmosphere. Think of it as carbon capture. The more stuff you put in the landfill, the more carbon gets sequestered in the landfill.

Here are some things you can *really* do.

1) Stop driving to work. Take the bus. Or even better, cycle or walk. If you live too far, either get a new home or get a new job. Commuting 20km to work everyday contributes to global warming.

2) Don't use the air conditioner so much. Open the doors and window an enjoy the fresh air. You can get used to it. We are blessed with a warm and comfortable climate, all year round, day and night. Tourists from less hospitable places comes *HERE* to enjoy our climate.

3) Reduce the lighting in your homes and offices. Your entire home/office need not be bright enough to read in. That's what reading lamps are for. You only need enough lights to see.

4) Turn off your computers when you don't use them.

5) Turn off devices like TVs at the wall socket instead of putting them in sleep mode.

6) Next time you buy a wall plug, get those *WITHOUT* lights. Those little lights that shows it's on, they just waste electricity.

7) Don't use treated pipe water to wash your car everyday. Yes, I cheated above. Treating water so that they are safe enough to drink uses up energy. You can capture rain water coming from your roof to water your plants.

8) Don't use hot water showers. Use cold ones instead.

9) Remove all unnecessary stuff from your car. The lighter it is, the less petrol it burns.

10) Check regularly to make sure your tyres are properly inflated, and wheels are aligned.

11) Don't take vacations to far away places, and fly there.

the objective should be same human way of live not save the earth, what does the earth care if it is hotter by 10 degree next year, the earth will still go on just fine, species will die and new specie will replace them. it is the human species that are endangered not the earth.

dkk, seriously, I couldn't agree less.

People are making campaigns everywhere, promoting the cause 'one people, one tree'. However, they are forgetting the more fundamental ways of saving the earth (public transport, electricity, garbages, cfc's, etc2).

Planting a tree is a good long term plan to save the earth, but don't forget bout the short term planning too!

Save the earth. YOU can make a change!

maybe in 20-50 years time . the earth will be totally different from temperature to environment to the air we take in and everything
