Hey guys, I'm trying to figure out a color for my master bedroom's feature wall. Firstly let me list out the color choices of the house.

Wall primary color : White
Furnitures : Black
Decor : black with some red

With the above info, I hope you guys understood the theme of the house. I thought of using Black for the feature wall.

Something like this. What do you guys think?

Oh and BTW, anyone knows where in the forum to get that light that illuminates from the bed headboard? Can this be done by those simple LED strips/tubes?

T5 tubes, u can find them in every light shop..a 4ft bar price starts from RM19 to RM25..

but i like the LED strips if it is not too expensive!
*
hmmm but I'm thinking about something that is flexible and thin. So I can slide them through tight spaces yet still illuminate certain area...

QUOTE(Drian @ Nov 9 2010, 10:12 AM)
It'll make your room look small. Gray will be better.
*
Did some further researches and much agreeable that black absorbs light hence tighten up the illusion of wide space. How about if I hang up a large black n white canvas wall poster on the black wall? With some lights behind the canvas, lighting up the whole poster. drool.gif

When you say gray, is it dark gray or gray of other tones? Do you have any pics ? rclxub.gif

And guys, any idea how to hang a large canvas poster without any nails?

Thanks for the inputs...

@GameFr3ak,
Just a thought - would Black be uhm...too-mosquito-friendly?
*
QUOTE(Shazzac @ Nov 9 2010, 11:21 AM)
Was about to say that. Alot of insects might decide to 'stay' near the black walls. If our weather is really dry & cool, it would probably be ok.
*
Hmm nvr thought of this problem. Will this still happen if I live on the tallest floor (23rd) ? With medium sunlight access. And mostly air conditioned?

QUOTE(Drian @ Nov 9 2010, 11:22 AM)
Nice color. And the wall poster is the kind that I have in mind... wink.gif

I'm not sure about that though. I have never tried any dark coloured wall before. As long as your room is well-aired and at times air it with outside air will be fine.

Or maybe you could try it out and let us know? I think also need about a year or 2 to find out if the spiders etc will be crowded into that area or not. But if you clean it all the time (behind your bedhead etc), should be no problem.
*
biggrin.gif I'm currently living in another Condo and the whole house is painted in white. guess what, it doesn't stop the spiders from coming. Though I don't see any mosquito, probably coz I'm living on the 19th floor. Even if there is mosquitoes, it gotta be from my own toilet....

The Spiders came because you seldom 'dust' your place lor. If you practice dusting and cleaning the walls at least once a mth with Magic Mop (from Kao), your walls/ceilings will be clean from other stuff.

I just meant that black will attract as insects like cool & dark places.

ahh ok.. that means if i pick dark color then I need to be more hardworking...

Ya.. dissapointed with that gray.. hahaha, have to repaint brighter color.
*
I think it lacks brightness. Should be ok if there's enough natural light during the day and enough lighting during the night will be good enough. Though I do think that gray and maroon is a little too dark. But should be ok as a feature wall color I guess..

QUOTE(IGax2000 @ Nov 9 2010, 09:04 PM)
i said chili red or deep purple as it will match well with ur dark walnut furniture tongue.gif
*
Nah furniture will not be dark walnut. It should be black, pure black. But Chili red paint seems to be a feasible idea.

Do you know? dust actually not black colour, but is some kind of gray, so unless your "black" wall is using gross finish paint, if not when the dust stop on the wall, it will look very bad
*
True. Since so many suggested away from Black. I think I'm gonna go with gray tone...

My color choices of the house are : -

Black n white + minimal red furnitures
White walls
Some red decors

Feature wall = gray?

user posted image
This is similar to what I have in mind but Black will be the prime color for my furniture. So the sofa will be in Black while the table might be white with some black.

Since your furnitures are black, the walls should be either off white (with beige or gray-beige tones). Coz if you have some more red on the walls - the 2 colours are really strong on the eyes. Will not feel relaxed.

How bout this gray ?

Not bad.

Maybe you could opt for maybe 2 or 3 shades lighter?

But i suggest you probably test paint it to see if it matches first or not.
*
Like, paint the whole wall to see if it matches? Orrr 1 small portion? I'm getting my renovator to paint for me not sure if he can do that..

You can probably buy a couple or few paint cans (smallest one) and paint a portion (like maybe about 2ftx2ft to have a look first. Not paint the whole room la. LOL. You can test paint it yourself. If the colour looks ok, then can go ahead and buy that particular colour.

Usually those off whites are the easiest to match. The off whites are always either slightly beige, slightly blue, slightly gray, slightly pink, slighly purple, slightly green etc. Just a hint of colour only. biggrin.gif

Hope this helps.
*
Alright thanks for the suggestion. Will try and get my renovator to get it rclxms.gif

Nice match... you see i match with Red and Gray.. >.< pretty sad.
*
Ya I'm kinda worried that it'll become too dark and gloomy. Hence I only planned on painting 1 feature wall with a slightly dark color. wub.gif

Thanks guys. I've decided all the colors for the house. Now I'll wait and see the outcome.

BTW anyone of you knows how to hang a big murals or framed pictures without nail through the wall ?

Or should I consider a really thin nail on the wall ? I'll have the whole house in a skin coat and I'll be heart broken to see holes sad.gif

You could probably try out 3M Brand Adhesive Hooks. It's for heavier pictures. But do check out if it can hold up to the weight of your actual frame+picture.

If it's light, you could try out velcro strips. One side to be stuck on the wall and the other behind the picture.
*
Thanks for the info. So Velcro strips are actually similar to double sided tape right? Do you know any particular place to frame up printed posters or murals? In KL la -.-

You know those school shoes that you can stick the top part? That one is velcro strips la.

Hrm, i don't live in KL so i'm not sure where can frame posters. FYI, murals are actually pictures painted on walls.

In Shah Alam - where I always get some stuff framed for my office - the place is not bad, and pricing wise also ok. Maybe you could get it done around Cheras area or something but not sure about it, as it might be cheaper there than main area frame shops.
*
Ah.. Interesting method there. Velco Strips, pretty tough if applied on 4 sides of the frames I reckon. But strong adhesive will still peel off the paint coat in the end no matter what right ? sweat.gif

Well, that's why i recommend light painting (like 1 pc of paper without frame) to be stuck on the wall using velcro. At least when you get bored of it, you can velcro it off and the other side of velcro still on the wall ready to stick on another picture lor. I hope you get what i mean. Unless you really want the wall to be empty again- then no choice have to scrap off the velcro.
*
Good point too, in most cases I'll only change the picture or poster and it is less likely that I'll be leaving the wall totally empty. So that should give me enough motivation to poke a hole, velco or use strong adhesive hooks.

Hmm finally my house had its feature walls painted. And the color ran turned out to be more bluish as expected. Actually the gray looked kinda like yours and I have all other walls painted in white. So currently I have tv wall, dining wall and master room head board wall painted in this bluish gray tone.

Further more I've asked the renovate to paint my door frames in black while the doors in white. My present concern is mainly with the tv wall. I have a tv cabinet that is main in black while the compartment door are in silver white. It's gonna be mounted on the tv wall. So I'm a bit concerned of the overall look. LOL any thoughts?
