MSI N480GTX Lightning on LN2 Pre-Testing

Date: 5th November 2010
Venue: Sanko's Lair
Participants: dblooi, verdict, Sanko

Overview

It has been quite sometime since we had LN2 session on a VGA. If i recall correctly, the last round was coolice OverClocking his Gainward V-MODed 9800GT on LN2. So i guess it's about time to polish up our skill on VGA LN2 OverClocking. But if you are reading this Overview, which i guess alot people doesn't, this report is not about how high we could clock the VGA. The interesting part is that we insulated the VGA with vaseline, and WE WASH IT. We didn't aim high for this session of LN2 OverClocking as the amount of LN2 was very limited (left over from the Kingston Power User Gathering). I believe we will be doing another round of LN2 on the MSI N480GTX Lightning end of the month. Hopefully in Lowyat Plaza, another OverClocking Demo. Seems like Year 2010 is an OverClocking year for Malaysia.

LN2 Session, Finally

As usual, dblooi incharge of OC. It's simple, cause he's better than the rest of us.

Don't know what verdict is doing..

MSI Big Bang OC Dashboard came in handy especially on-the-fly OverClocking.

Everything was smooth-sailing. At least we thought so during that moment.

Ops... the "cold" killed the mounting?

The Results

One of the reason the scores were low is due to the NVIDIA Driver used. Seems like version 260.99 scored lower compared to version 258.96. Although the scores we obtained was very low, but sure we are very happy with the benching session. Cause it was the last run for our trusty dblooi's CPU Pot and now there's new incoming pot. It was a farewell bench for the pot and it didn't disappoints us, although there were plenty of problem occurred. And running LN2 on a such high end VGA made the day.

Nice OC review (especially the washing part tongue.gif )
Apologize for sitting there whole day night long,
The board couldn't boot up with more than 5.2GHz (Suspect OCP kicks in or what),
Previous round wasted a lot of LN2 due to that.
The purpose of volunteering myself at the benching seat was to avoid that happen again.
but once I sit there, then I'm glued there ( Sorry, bad habit tongue.gif )
I'll note on that next time, and just to let you all know I can be shoo away icon_rolleyes.gif
It's a shared benching session, I really hope everyone would share the same joy & same fun. laugh.gif

Side note: WTS db pot, brother brother price lai lai XD

coolice: shower fast mar.

saturn85: the insulation of the mobo is different. although we can also use vaseline but we always use Faber Castell Kneaded Erasers or Blue-Tak. it's easier to remove. actually coolice did release a comprehensive insulation guide for mobo last time. a pinned-worthy thread but gone unnoticed. lol.

sevensigns: actually it's kinda save. and actually we are not sponsored, only that MSI is willing to loan it to us. not only MSI actually i believe ASUS and Gigabyte are willing too. i believe we deserved it since we started out to prove ourselves long time ago. and the results? top 2 HWBot in Malaysia is among us. lol. and actually we do not keep such thing within ourselves. i actually even asked Kingston to send samples to cstkl during the Kingston Power User Gathering cause he is the actualy guru in Memory.

dblooi: as always, it's TEAM effort! always. hehe...
