Damn, was planning to change my parents' Astro to Byond, now they have this upgrade thingy. Should I just submit the application now? I hope to get it done before end of the year

Submitted an upgrade for Astro B.yond last Sunday on their website. Nobody contacted me until now, so I tried contacting them via Twitter.

Here's their reply:

So, their so called upgrade to their customer service system seems to be like a downgrade instead. doh.gif

Damn. I just submitted a request yesterday. Sigh.

I called Astro again today to ask about my upgrade. The CS rep said that their system is not yet stable. They can assign installers for us, but the activation later will be a pain, coz the system is still not ready to do activation. Once everything is ready, only then will they assign installers coz they want the activation to be near instant, just like previous Byond subscribers. He also advised me once an installer contacts me, I should ask him whether he can do an immediate activation, if not, I should refuse installation.

I was still thinking about subscribing to B.Yond. So i gather I don't have to bother applying till their system stabilizes?

You should just go ahead. They'll put your request in a queue for your area. The longer you wait, the longer the queue gets.

An update. The installer came this morning to install. It was supposed 2be last week, but I was not at home. Anyways, they changed everything. Including the cable. My set was more than 10 years old. The activation took about 10-15 mins after they have done the installation

So they installed new cables?Did they drill a hole through the wall or anything?

Glad to hear u got activated fast  biggrin.gif

Yup,new cables. I insisted since the old one was more than 10 years old already. Even the old dish was covered with mold, cannot even read the word astro. They took out the old cable, and used back the hole with the new cable.

If they can show Hollywood movies, I may be buying. But then, acquiring rights to Hollywood movies might be really really hard.

Maybe at 4am  tongue.gif

Haha. I'm just curious about the interface. They say through SMS. Maybe like the system used by the installers to activate? We sms, then shortly after that the channel is activated. But I won't be buying. yawn.gif

Take a look on this published From ASTRO

Yup, I saw that. If you tune in to CH480 now, you'll notice that the background is generated by the decoder, not just the standard looping menu Astro usually use. The interface on that channel is what I'm curious about.

With the contract for Byond coming to an end for the early adopters of Byond, I'm sure many will think about cutting the HD services. I know I will be thinking about that, if there are no signs of new HD channels from Astro
