Normal b.yond uses a single LNB, and b.yond PVR use dual LNB.  Anyone notice any difference in picture quality between the two?
*
First of all, Congratulations... new Thread already... V7.0 rclxms.gif thumbup.gif
For me, single or dual LNB give the same picture quality....
They need to use dual LNB for PVR because HD signal cannot be split like SD signal....
Like Astro MAX, since it only can receive SD signal, that's why it only need single cable and single LNB...

QUOTE(neb @ Nov 8 2010, 02:10 PM)
KU-band lnb(low noise block) got 2 lo(local oscillator ) frequencies: 9.75 GHz and 10.6 GHz, of which can be switched by 22KHz signal

SD channels is using 9.75GHz frequency, while HD channels is allocated by higher 10.6GHz

astro max got 2 tuners inside feed by internal splitter, it can share single lnb because it only uses 9.75GHz lo frequency for SD channels reception

for byond pvr, 2 tuners have to be operated independently so can not share single lnb
imagine if a single lnb is share by byond pvr twin tuner, tuner 1 is watching SD channel, when tuner 2 is recording HD channel, tuner 2 will send 22KHz signal to switch LNB to 10.6GHz, this action will result in tuner 1 unable to receive SD channel, thus create interference for SD reception
*
Thanks Neb...
Really good explanation.... thumbup.gif

If i'm not mistaken, installer of my Astro said, old dish (that one with PHILIPS ASTRO word written on it) have pre-installed with non-universal LNB....
That's why it can't be used on Byond....

Ya i know that..
Let say if i want to watch a football match and at the same time i wanna record another program from another channel..
So this option is only possible with 2 tuners right..
*
Yes...,
and you need Byond PVR to do that task.... smile.gif

Normal Byond connected to external hard only can record one channel at the same time since only one tuner occupied into it...

AjkR06, do you have any problem with your PVR right now? Try rewind live TV for 10 minute back and play it again for 15 minute. For me, if I rewind 10 minute then I can only play 10 minute. After that, picture will hung, pixellate or no sound.
*
I don't encounter that problem right now...
so far so good...
Have u upgrade the new firmware for Byond PVR?
V3.0s...

can we find it with just searching on normal tv or need some device to search for it? i didnt find it..
*
Just search using your normal CRT/LCD TV connected to the TV antenna....
Then you're ready to go.... probably your area cannot get the reception for this channel clearly...
BTW, you're using internal antenna or external antenna?

Since my uncle also own that same kind of TV shown on the picture,
I can confirm and 100% sure that kind of TV does not have any digital tuner build-in into it....
Only normal PAL/NTSC, UHF/VHF tuner available, it means that you only can receive normal teresterial Broadcast using analog technology...
If I'm not mistaken, only CRT TV that was made in US have build in digital tuner since their government have mandated that all of TV made in US should contain digital tuner (in US case, ATSC Tuner)

QUOTE(G K Lai @ Nov 15 2010, 10:02 PM)
Hi all,

I have a few questions that I think many of the HD veteran here should be able to answer:

1) Does all B.yond box customers currently watching the movies (either SD or HD channels) that were encoded with MPEG-4 AVC...?

2) I can't find information about my satellite signal strength within B.yond Settings menu, do they even have the information exist...?

Thank you in advance...  smile.gif
*
1. Only HD Channels are encoded with MPEG4 compression... SD channels are still stuck with older MPEG2 standard.. The standard that Astro used since their launch on 1996...

2. You can find the information regarding your signal strength by pressing

HOME-->
SETTINGS -->
INSTALLATION SETTINGS -->
ENTER THE DEFAULT PIN WHICH IS "0000" (Four times zero) -->
SATELLITE SETTINGS (don't bother to change any entry there) -->
PRESS OK --> CHOOSE ENTRY 18 (or u can try all of 18 entry available) -->
Now, you can see your signal strength and signal quality. If u use Byond PVR which has 2 tuners, it will shows four signal bar... Normal Byond will only shows 2 vertical signal bar...

nOOb question. Will the pvr function work only with the WD AV HDD or is it just a gimmick?
I want to get a bigger disk and want to be sure.

It's not a gimmick, but it's reality...
Only WD My Passport AV 320GB can be fully functional with Byond....
