guys..is there any Asean or Asian county for that matter, that provides their customers with original channels instead of of an international or Asian version channel? i mean like MTV..we get MTV Asia right? Is that also the case for movie channels or other channels? Heck..even Disney channel is now so Asian-ised that it is slowly becoming a Malaysian channel kids channel with programmes like Upin Ipin and 'Waktu Rehat' on it..

I know in Malaysia the most obvious reason they give is that they need to censor a lot of original channels thats why we get the Asian or International version..is it the same everywhere else? does any country get original feed from UK or US directly?

So, Astro "limited excuse" was a gimmick? I suppose the remaining transponder is for MPEG4 SD channel feed seperated
from MPEG2 version. Or, it can be use to improve more quality on HD channel...

KUALA LUMPUR 16 Nov. - Panasonic Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. (Panasonic) hari ini menjalinkan kerjasama dengan ESPN Star Sport bagi menayangkan beberapa perlawanan bola sepak Liga Perdana England (EPL) dalam bentuk tiga dimensi (3D) selama tiga musim bermula tahun ini.

Pengarah Urusan Panasonic, Jeff Lee Wee Leong berkata, kerjasama tersebut bakal membawa faedah kepada semua pihak termasuk Astro kerana ia menawarkan keseronokan kepada pelanggan masing-masing.

Menurutnya, dalam kerjasama tersebut, beberapa produk Panasonic terutamanya televesyen 3D dan definasi tinggi (HD) akan ditayangkan semasa rancangan liga bola sepak itu.

"Liga Perdana England yang merupakan ketagihan bagi rakyat Malaysia menjadi penyebab mengapa kami bersungguh-sungguh mahu menjayakan kerjasama ini.

"Ini merupakan salah satu lagi evolusi bagi memenuhi kehendak pelanggan kami," katanya kepada pemberita selepas majlis menandatangani perjanjian kerjasama tersebut di sini hari ini.

Turut hadir ialah Ketua Pegawai Operasi Astro, Henry Tan dan Timbalan Presiden Eksekutif dan Ketua Jualan ESPN Star Sports Asia Tenggara, Adam Zecha.

Bagaimanapun, Wee Leong tidak meletakkan sebarang sasaran untuk jualan televisyen 3D syarikat itu memandangkan ia masih baru di Malaysia.

"Akan tetapi, langkah ini merupakan satu permulaan. Saya yakin satu hari nanti 3D bakal menjadi barangan keperluan seperti mana yang berlaku kepada komputer satu ketika dahulu," katanya.

Sementara itu, Tan menanggap kerjasama itu bakal menambahkan keseronokan kepada pelanggan siaran televisyen berbayar itu khususnya peminat liga bola sepak England.

"Ketika ini, sekitar 60 peratus pelanggan kami melanggan siaran sukan.

"Pengenalan ini merupakan usaha bagi menambah nilai perkhidmatan Astro kepada mereka," ujarnya.

I think EPL in HD picture quality are already great. Astro should improve quality on SD channel instead.

They are putting too much effort on sports (main source of income i believe)

For me

1. Launch some quality HD channels. 
2. Improve SD pic quality. (Now some SD pic quality are not far away from a VCD quality )

I told her it is still expensive after the so-called 50% discount.

I should have yelled at them to improve their existing service before looking for more profits. Real bloodsuckers
