I'm planning to paint my whole apartment. I'm wondering if anyone can provide the latest price for paint. I'd prefer ICI Dulux.

As for the interior wall, how much is dulux light & space [5L]? I guess this is the costliest part for my paint job.

I have read that some of the forummers here got the 5L pack at RM76, but the shop that I asked quote me at RM120.

Hope to get some rough idea from fellow forummers.

Brand: ICI, etc..
Type: interior/exterior..
Volume: 1L? 5L, etc..
Price..

Thanks in advanced

RM76 is like almost impossible unless the dealer is willing to make losses. RM120 is the RRP and you can try to reduce a little bit. some will sell for 110. good luck..

Speaking about paint can anyone tell what is the benefits of using certain paint types vs certain paint types and what is the difference in performance between paint types. What is useful and recommended and what is not recommended.

For eg:- Between odourless air care VS Satin Glo VS Vinelix Fresh Anti bacteria. Which is better?
or
Acrylic 5170 Wall sealer vs Hi bond wall sealer vs odourless wall sealer vs Vinelex 5200 wall sealer.

P/G can go for 2 or 4 bucks lower or even more. LS also 2 or 4 or even more. Maybe around 100. But you're in Malacca, so this price is reasonable already. In KL can get less la.

AirCare is more to those evironmental-friendly and stuffs like that. Satin Glo is shiny and has been in the market for long long time. Vinilex is matt if i'm not mistaken and anti-bacteria which S/GLo doesn't have according to Nippon.
Sealer. There are few types. Project sealer. Water-based sealer and Solvent-based sealer. Project are the cheapest ones. Projects usually use water-based sealer. By saying solvent-based sealer, it means it has to be mixed with Thinner. Strong thinner. And it is the best of sealer. Longer-lasting is one of the main factor.

I mean those are common colors as pre-mixed from the factory. Normally, those paint we bought are just binder, additives and diluent- and color is added when pigments are added--

Check out Petaling Hardware Opposite IOI mall they are selling RM78 for 5 liter (pentalite easyclean) for normal colour.

If you are looking for bulk i suggest you to buy 20liters its much cheaper compare to 4x 5liter.

Just some sharing, initially i have tested the pentalite easyclean and comment from my contractor is very hard to paint (outcome is not nice)
i end up using pentalite classic.

if wall finishing is not good, avoid those glossy paint as it will reveal the wavy surface, matt finishing will be better.. That's only based on my experience.

sheen level from lowest to highest

matt-> lowsheen/eggshell-> satin-> Gloss

From what i can gather from the internet, the higher the sheen level the more obvious imperfection will be shown on your wall. However I have no idea how bad it looks like in real life.

Refering to the price range that 5L RM 76~, i think the brand that you are looking at is

MR Paint Man Pearl Shine or Pearl Matt formulation.

It is true. I have used both matted and gloss paints in my house.

But gloss looks nice, shiny, easy to clean and is 'thicker'. So you dont need to use so much to give a decent coat.

Some parts of the house I used Light & Space. Its bright, yes, but damn difficult to clean stains. Also, according to my contractor, it is very thin, therefore he needed to use a lot in order to coat the walls decently.

According to my painter, only take pentalite classic from dulux. Supreme looks nice, but very hard to do touch-ups because it will look uneven.

If nippon, take spotless or vinilex.

Np, just sharing from experience.

Gloss, I used Jotun, cnt remember wat series tho. I think its Majestic.

Although a lot of ppl say ICI is the best, but I have seen (i work in construction line btw) Jotun's matt paints (Strux series) finishing is very nice, and needs only 2 coats. I bought ICI because a relative was working with ICI and could give very good price. But at last, I think I spent more coz my contractor needed to paint at least 3 coats of L&S to give proper coverage on my wall.

wow shocking.gif ...this is a good finding, i never thought that dulux need to put more thatn 2 layer. what if my house already painted by developer and i want to repaint it. do u think with existing paint already there still require more than 3 layer?

and how about nippon paint? any experience before? hmm.gif

I painted my parents house gate before last year CNY using ICI weathershield. Fungus was already growing 1.5 years later, some more in the paint spec it's stated "Protection of at least 5 years against fungus and algae growth.".. Yeah right.

my painter has finished painting the upper storey of my house with Jotun Majestic Matte - very satisfied with the outcome. Jotashield Extreme for the exterior looks good as well. All were 2 coats with Jotun Primer as the base...

I think Strax is slightly below Majestic, and Strax does not feature low VOCs if i'm not mistaken...

my painter has finished painting the upper storey of my house with Jotun Majestic Matte - very satisfied with the outcome. Jotashield Extreme for the exterior looks good as well. All were 2 coats with Jotun Primer as the base...

I think Strax is slightly below Majestic, and Strax does not feature low VOCs if i'm not mistaken...

Haha anything but ICI. I'm leaning towards Nippon paint though, maybe it's the blobby advertisment influencing me...haha.

Speaking of Jotun, guys from Penang, if you notice properly , Prangin Mall has just been repainted using Jotun(I presume) as there is a big billboard advertising Jotun paint (Jotun has most likely given them special price for the paint in exchange for the big billboard advertising). So a few years from now if the paint starts to fade or fungus starts to grow... you know what paint to avoid. But if they're confident of putting that big billboard, I guess they do have some confidence that the paint will last.

My house was also painted by developer, but I wanted a dif color thats y i repainted it. Still needed 3 coats of L&S at least. The Jotun Majestic, I used it for my feature wall. Actually 1 coat is good enough, but since I still had more than half a tong, I might as well make a second coat. Looks thick and the colour is rich!

Never tried Nippon tho.

And I dont know the price for Strax.

hi, new in paint here ..

Plan to take Jotun for exterior & Nippon for interior ..

- Which category of nippon mid-sheen can give the effect of "smooth", "milk-like" surface which looks very similar like the layer of skim-coating ?

- Any recommendation of stores in KL area that are having Jotun & Nippon paint promotion ?

- Have seen quite some houses where their grill start to "berkarat" over years ..
Any range from Nippon/ Jotun are recommended for painting grills ?

QUOTE(Drian @ Dec 10 2010, 10:35 AM)
I painted my parents house gate before last year CNY using ICI weathershield. Fungus was already growing 1.5 years later, some more in the paint spec it's stated "Protection of at least 5 years against fungus and algae growth.".. Yeah right.
*
quite surprised with this ... so how can we really decide which paint really protect against fungus for very long years ?

Nippon Pearl but the smooth surface depends on your wall , not your paint

Hey guys,

Just bought a few thousand bucks of paint today moneyflies.gif moneyflies.gif moneyflies.gif

For interior, chose Jotun Majestic Optima which is more superior than Majestic Pearl. According to the seller, Optima is the top range of Jotun product and is super gloss but you need to make sure u skim coat your wall before using it. Cost: RM 118 per 5 liter compared to Jotun Majestic Pearl of RM 93 per 5 liter.

For exterior, chose ICI Weathershield and Nippon Vinilex 5500 as sealer. Nippon Vinilex 5500 - RM 150 per 18 liter. ICI Weathershield - RM 128 per 5 liter depends on colour.

Hopes this helps as a comparison for u all. biggrin.gif

Hey there. I think your seller tipu you or he doesnt know well or some mistakes happened. Optima is so expensive because it can cover hairline cracks and there is no need for you to take Optima instead of normal Majestic range for the difference between Optima and Pearl Silk is very minimal in terms of glossiness. Sorry bout that. sad.gif

Finishing wise- i would say skim coat first before you use aircare.... eggshell finishing also makes the uneven surface becomes obvious..... curvy
smelll- hardly feel it

Not yet, painting next week.

On the price, I bargain with the shop owner. Shop owner call nippon distributor, I told them if other people can get <Rm100 in KL, why are you charging higher here in Penang. Then he say la , that is roadshow price la, now increase price already la, bla bla bla (obviously excuse).
Then he gave me Rm105 for light colours and RM110 for dark colours. Just agreed cause no time to go mainland to buy paint.

I notice your price is rather reasonable. Can you please PM/share with me the shop that offer you. I am considering the same range of Nippon paint for my new house. They offer you any color of your choice for the Venilux range?

Thanks,

for interior yes indeed reasonable, but im not sure about the exterior. i wonder what's d difference between this vinilex easy clean vs odour less air care. is aircare really hard to clean d surface?

btw, what is d finishing surface or vinilex? matt or low sheen?

thanks for the reply. yeah, just bought it..........the shop is at jln kuari, the new shop lot near the old town kopitiam. Mr Paint Shop is the shop name......they carry a lot of brand and it only sells paint+painting accessories. the owner introduce the Nippon paint because of the waterproofing material of weathershield max and he is in the painting industry for 20yrs, so he see a that nippon last well (if the painting rules are followed..1primer+2paint). then for the venilex......a 5ltr is RM85, 20ltr is as mentioned. Venilex, they got any colour that u want......i just got to know that the paint machine does not churn out all the paint out...haha.......they just take out the venilex base (white) and then the machine will discharge the colour that u wan n then it will mix. so i can say, all the colour u wan....they have it.

here is their website http://www.mrpaintshop.com.my/ ....the boss is nice and friendly and willing to explain. and this is one of the reason why i got this paint, no point of getting a paint that u got the info online but not from the one who is using it. btw, after further deduction...the boss give some discount again........and a free (cheap one la) 5 step ladder+delivery to my new place. fyi, i bought over 1.3k

QUOTE(koled_anie @ Dec 22 2010, 07:47 AM)
for interior yes indeed reasonable, but im not sure about the exterior. i wonder what's d difference between this vinilex easy clean vs odour less air care. is aircare really hard to clean d surface?

btw, what is d finishing surface or vinilex? matt or low sheen?
*
the difference is the price n the 'function' (i think it should have all the features of the nippon paint since it is a premium), since i just need to have an easy to maintain wall....i'll just get vinilex and he told me that interior paint doesnt matter on the 'features' since most can easily last for 10yrs (only exterior needs a better ones). and the price for the odourless is RM130 but got promo.....and FYI, nippon dont have 18ltr for odourless, so...the price....is not cheap unless u got a big budget on paint. finishing is matt for vinilex....

i was confused with the choice, so i went there and talk to the boss (1st time he explain to me for 30min although I might not be buying).....nice and patient guy.....and service so far is good. i went to one shop nearby my place n this boss ask a bangla to talk to me....sigh......but this boss is a painter himself, just that he prefer more on selling. we choose the colour together and he asked about the house lighting, size n etc, to decide if it is suitable to get a darker or lighter paint and the matching colour. i think of choosing a red but he asked me not too as it will be too 'warm'.....so end up choosing a pink for my niece room..........

i observed that the interior walls of some office or exterior walls of some apartments are painted with "emulsion paint" , which give the effect like milky/silky surface.

How is the "emulsion paint" compared with non-emulsion paint in terms of

- Anti-fungal
- Last longer for at least 5 or 6 yrs above
- Colour retention over years
- Washability
- Price

Is it as good as paint like Jotun Matt/ Optima etc .. ?

Is emulsion paint widely available from Jotun ?

i got a pearl glo....guava mist (something like that) and when i turn on the lights.....the reflections.....but maybe the room is quite small. as i heard from the paintshop owner, the interior doesnt matter as a good one would easily last for 10yrs but most important is the external.

Hi Friends,

I need your valuable input here... As my contractor advised me, for my 2.5 stry intermediate link house I need to buy 60 liters for interior walls, 20 liters for ceiling and 20 liters for exterior walls.
He advised to buy ICI Pentalite for interior and Weather shield for exterior.
Please advise me, if you any better idea for interior and exterior coating based on your experience and also pass me the better price and where to get it.
Thanks in advance!

Jotashield 5L (Exterior) = RM103
Jotaplast white waterbase 18L (For ceiling) = RM68
Mejestic Royate Matt (Interior) 5L = RM95

Are the prices cheaper or can get further discount anywhere in KL and PJ area? Please let me know.

Sorry for the noob question -__-, but does 'washable' mean if kids scribble (pencils, crayons) can wash one? If not, what are the paints that can do that?

Thank you.

I want to ask something, is it really important to do 2 coating of paint when you wanna paint indoors? Im a student so i wanna try to cut my budget short.

from my experienced if you paint only 1 coat u will see the overlap paint line all over the wall (unless d color is exactly same with existing color). once u put d 2nd coat then it will gone. but bear in mind, if darker color will need to have more than 2 layer. my bedroom feature wall i use Nippon Rocky Nook color (something like dark chocolate) need 4 layers to make it even without the overlap paint line....so, darker color will need more coats....hehehehe..... tongue.gif

i observed that the interior walls of some office or exterior walls of some apartments are painted with  "emulsion paint" , which give the effect like milky/silky surface.

*
emulsion paint is formal term for the term "cat air"

enamel paint is more of cat kilat.. or gloss paint which normally for wood and metal

Anybody heard of a paint colour named 'Baby Turtle'? Apparently quite popular in the Western countries but couldn't find this paint name in Malaysia. It's quite perfect for living hall's feature wall.

Nowadays, Nippon Paint is more expensive than ICI. According to the paint shop, they are telling that ICI Paint nowadays is not so consistent with color. Maybe now ICI Paint is owned by Akzo Nobel.

For paint, value for money maybe Jotun Majestic Royal Matt or Pearl Silk at RM88 per 5L. Based on the TDS, volume solid is around 38%

This is my own experience using sancora, mr paint or any cheap paint. The paint will peel off after a years. Not worth to buy. Jotun still can be okay to use rather that cheap paint on worse quality. If you have more budget go for ICI Dulux or nippon and Glidden also can be consider and also the price same as Jotun. For your info Glidden own by ICI Dulux..

beware u need a lot of paint. mine 2 storey and we just repaint 1 layer because we just finish some renovations (lots of finger prints and dust) that already use up 10 cans of 5 liter paints. So better negotiate tapau everything with ur painter. No need to worry whether u bought enuf or not. Just sharing...

There are 2 school of thoughts..
1. Some believe that better to buy the paint your self and let the contractor take care of the labour only. What you pay is what you gets...

2. While some believe if you get the contractor to include everything in their price, they will be getting the best deal. Let the contractor worry if cost overrun, etc.
Having said that, do you think the contractor will continue and complete the work if they are running in loss? smile.gif

Paint Price sharing
ICI Pearl Glo RM92-RM95/5 liter

Just bought last weekend and 2 weeks ago.

IMHO, the way I'm using to save painting cost are
1) DIY for interior painting. Exterior painting require scald folding. Let the contractor do it.
2) Choose back to exact colour of existing paint. You only need to apply a thin layer of new coat will do.
3) Never ever try to apply new light colour paint on darker colour existing paint. You will need 2 layers of paint and will be time and cost consuming

got Jotun Strax Easy Clean from mr. Paint Shop
20L from RM260 to RM 290
5L from RM80-RM90
1L is RM29
depends on your color mix (lighter would be cheaper)

Matt and glossy paint..

Matt - will looks better on uneven surface.. and price is cheaper

Gloss (sheen finish) - depends on the glossiness, it can be wipe clean not as easy tho...and hard to do retouchup, looks like a halo spot if wiew from angle..

Use gloss paint on smooth surface that will be use as feature wall or certain parts like kitchen..

Added on August 11, 2012, 6:05 amMatt - Nippon easywash , odourless...Dulux pentalite , easy clean...Jotun majestic royale matt, strax easyclean

Gloss - Nippon spotless, odourless aircare, vinilex fresh, satin glo...Dulux pure, light and space, pearl glo, supreme..Jotun majestic optima, majestic royal silk

I would still apply. The primer layer let's ur paint last longer on ur wall.

Touch ur wall though, is it 'kapur' like?

there's like a layer of dust, but it's not from the paint....like the newly painted surfaces would not have the kapur thingy when i swipe my hand on it

so how...better to primer it first with sth like Dulux Interior Wall Primer?

Normally how long to wait after applying primer before we can paint over it? And how long we can delay and leave the wall after applying primer before we need to paint the final coat?

so how...better to primer it first with sth like Dulux Interior Wall Primer?

Normally how long to wait after applying primer before we can paint over it? And how long we can delay and leave the wall after applying primer before we need to paint the final coat?
*
If same/similar color the do not need to apply the sealer. Go to ICI/Nippon website, even their broucher did give you the advise when to appy/not apply sealer smile.gif

Three have 3 branches, but all at shah alam.

Work out the maths for yourself if its worth a trip to shah alam. Petrol and toll probably work out more expensive if one or two tongs !

Ladies & Gentlemen, need some help from all the professional.

I have recently go to one of the Puchong Paint house to enquire the price of the paint, here is the result,

Nippon Odour-Less Aircare : RM370 for 18L
Jotun Majestic Optima : RM370 for 20L

These two are the shopkeeper recommend to me for my interior wall as all the function is nice and suit.

Any commend on these 2 type of paint? was it expensive? or any other brand that can recommend, any other places get more cheaper?

Thanks for the advise !!!

CSM is marginally cheaper (but need to buy disc card) for nippon paint. If you need an additional 5l tong, better get at csm.

However, in reality, Probably you should get at your shop rm370 for 18l. Not worth going so far to hunt for csm.

Hi,anyone heard of TOA paint? I understand that it is the #1 paint in Thailand. Is it any good? I wonder if it is a MY'n brand.

I heard of another MY'n brand called MCI (the owner formerly worked at ICI) and I also wonder if the performance will be as good as Nippon. The price is cheaper than Nippon but I don't know about TOA. Between TOA and MCI I wonder which is better or more cost-effective. I'm thinking of painting my exterior with TOA and the interior with MCI. What do you all think? Thx

Jotun is not good if you buy the lower end variety. The exterior paint that costs RM400+ per 15L tong is good. A rich fren of mine repainted his huge bungalow with this paint and it looks so nice. I guess it lasts longer too.

if you are staying at Kemuning Utama, its quite easy to get to CSM Sri Muda (same row as Public Bank Sri Muda).

after RM10 voucher, it about RM97 for 5l nippon paint colour. weather bond, i think. may need membership which cost RM10.

give CSM a call to double check if the offer still on.

Hello guys, maybe out of topic.

But I want to enquiry how do I get price list for each nippon, or other brand list?

I'm currently doing a budget estimation for a company, so if I can get an accurate price, that would be much better for the projection.

Any idea guys?
