ok, im very interested in getting a SE X10 but after reading relevant source about it, im now having doubt..
here's my question..

1.) the different between 1.6 and 2.x..
2.) can SE X10 maximize the usage of android software?
3.) color of 262k? the color is it permanent as for the screen or it will upgrade base on the OS?
4.) will it have multi-touch function since without it i dont think i can enjoy androids games


you can give some opinion too regarding X10 that may or may not boost my confidence toward it =D

If you are interested because it's a SE phone, you are going to be sad. This is solely based on my perception on SE phones running Android. YMMV.

There are many reasons why Sony Ericsson is now out of the Top 5, and Apple entered instead.
- When they adopted Android for their new flagship phones, SE did not anticipate how much people would care about the version of Android. They keep shipping phones with 1.6 pre-installed.
- After making a great Walkman phone W995 (8.1MP camera, WLAN/3G/GPS support), they decided to downgrade with Zylo and Spiro.
- Their Android phones don't support multi-touch well.

What makes you think so? You owned one? Feature phone? Basic phone? Android phone? Your comment sounds like a fanboy to me.

If it's because they refuse to ship with the latest Android on the market, then their business strategy's at fault. I don't see any "crap" in their phones: is 5MP autofocus camera on an entry Android phone (X10 mini/pro) crap? How about keyboard (mini pro)? How about 600 MHz processor in X10 mini/pro vs 528 MHz on HTC wildlife crap? How about out of the box design (Human palm curvature) vs Samsung generic black bar design across all its mobile phones range?

SONY had already issued statement after its launch ( you can try google for the announcement ) saying the X10 will not and cannot support multitouch as is hardware issue limitation in this model

Yeah, true uncle benny.. If you just wanna go for SE coz you in love with them since you're born, then I have nothing to stop you to get any one of their device and don't care about like what Nexus One owners (or others.. ) had.. Multitouch especially.. Just go and get it.. If you're a typical user.. Better go for other brand.. HTC, Samsung, LG, etc etc... Many other choices now and after..

Don't buy it. It's not a good enough Android phone. 1.6 is one reason, multi-touch another, and there're other much better phones in the market at that price point (or investing a bit more).

Yeah.. true.. true.. But for x10's camera and video function are great enough compare to other Android that equivalent to it..
SE devices will get update on early 2011 though.. It's like 2 months to go (although this news already came out for too long.. sigh..)..
If still can wait then, just stay with it.. If not, sell it and go for other device that maybe will get update to Gingerbread soon instead of waiting for Eclair or Android 2.1..

i think the only good things bout X10 is its camera and the sexy outlook.

else everything just seems not worth it for the price.
- no multi touch - now phone without multi-touch just cannot survive.
- just upgrade to 2.1 = 2.1 is just not enough for android. I've used 2.1 and 2.2 phones so i think i can say a 1GHz phone with 2.1 is so underpower. and if u see the speed SE upgrade their phone software is just so slow.
- only 384MB ram? i got this info from gsmarena.

So in my opinion, with the price of X10, this phone is not worth the deal. I'm not sure how much is it but i think the price you can buy an AP set desire?

I really when reading this thread. It's so pathetic when most of the replies are from ppl who never own the phone or never used long enough made such comments. If any of you want a very simple user friendly smartphones then Android is not for you. Just settle for iphone and you dreams will be come true.

Lack of memory? I'm using app2sd with my 2.1 x10i (yeah app2sd is supposed to run with 2.2 but since 1.6 I'm running app2sd) and all my apps are installed into my micro sd card. It's the cheapest (one of the forumer here got an ap set for RM1266 only) 4" with 8Mpix camera and can record 720p hd videos and a very sexy design. Multitouch, well I'm still healthy and alive without it...

other than lacking multi-touch function, other function all similiar to android???

GSMArena has posted that Xperia X10 is capable of multi-touch, just that Sony Ericsson is not implementing it.

if your new to android, i think you better try phones that have lots of 'developers' hacking or whatever they call it...since SE its quite new at this android thingy, you cant get much help even if you go to developer.sonyericsson.com, but if you r someone who's simple minded and dont like 'playing' with ur phone (total control, customization, you name it..android got it all..except for video call), then i suggest go for proprietary os phones, if ur really into android, and dont wanna take a risk, try HTC cause they got lots of customs ROMS, i own an x10 mini pro, n still waiting for the developers to crack the bootloader on it...

I tried not to sound like a fanboy when I posted the previous comment. But really, I did consider getting Nokia N900/Motorola Milestone/SE X10mini pro. But below are the reason I have go for SE X10mini pro:
1. vs N900: Maemo has only one device in its pocket, just like N810, N700, I never heard of them again... Dats what I'm afraid, the support will cease at near future.
2. vs Milestone: weight, size, nuff said.
3. vs iPhone: (if you really want it) weight, size, exclusivity, price.

well i am new to android and im not planning to customize the phone b4 my warranty end..
and i felt like X10 maybe a great hit in android market in the future, its just that SE is not doing anythings...

Erm.... I never owned X10 it but trust me SE is failing at everything on mobile scape.... I saw friend's ex-Walkman with wifi, HORRIBLE LAG... AINO is like "I KNOW" u sux...... Like others said only good thing is camera on X10....

+ SE sux at firmware updates.... The last update for a friend of mine who uses AINO REMOVED stuff like youtube and facebook intergration that were originally on factory installed firmware. Lagi pula, he say they remove some themes also...o.0

Desire HD/Galaxy S/Milestone XT would be better....

HEY I'm a K800 user by the way... I still think its decent though outdated... The older Sony team were better....
What a disgrace, I told myself my next phone would be a SE after using my K800 for a few months....

Now, its like my next phone WILL NOT BE SE...

I just want a phone that with the following criteria: Should I get x10?

1. Snaps good photo. Enough pixels to snap a document's words. ( I heard that SEphone's camera without cybershot doesn't last long. Is this true?)
2. Supports free GPS.
3. Capture fairly good videos.
4. Doesn't lag
5. Good Music management (something like iphone but as u noe iphone is overrated price lah almost the same price of a laptop.)
6. Battery that last long (>400hrs)
7. Have document viewer. (PDF, PoewrPoint viewer)

I believe you can get all those things in the list with x10 except no.6, to be honest, I doubt there is a smartphone that can give u that.

so by normal usage of x10 normally can last till how long? 2-3 days?

what i can tell u is, the camera effect become more excellent!

besides for zoom in/out...what other function for the multi touch?

If u dim the brightness, deactivate all syncing apps,no data, totally use for calls n SMS.
Yes I think it can last that long.

Haha, can I quote you? I can paste it in eg: iPhone thread, Symbian thread, BB thread, and this, Android thread. People get smartphone for the wrong reason nowadays.

True that now phones can manage a lot of things, but long battery life isn't one of them, ease of use isn't one of them (well, compare to feature phones/dumb phones). Stop dreaming of wonderphone that can compute like your PC/Laptop and can last 5 days, and still razor thin (rayzrblade, no pun intended).

You want features like iPhone, you get iPhone; Android's not for you. You want long battery life, you get dumbphones/feature phones, they can last many times longer than smartphone. Once you've made up ur mind you want a convergence device/smartphone, you have to understand basic physics applied, long battery life shouldn't be the main factor of your consideration.

Their complain bcoz their migrate from dump phone to smartphone...so their expect their batt can long lasting like b4...huhu...but in the same time their want to do all things on the phone...just compare ur screen is enough to tell how long the battery can lasting..

Less than a day, with 2.1. Heavy use: music, gaming, occasional surfing.

Totally agree with that.

If I play angry birds or 3d games, it can only last for a few hours. Same thing if I browse the web with hspa connection, battery will drain like crazy. If you ride a bike then afterwards get a car, u cannot expect the fuel consumption to be the same.

btw, x10 is a good phone, only limited by an old android version which now has been updated to 2.1. buy a used one for ~1.2k should be ok. pay 2k for it, not recommended because there are more options out there. in the end, its your own $$. you want it, dont care what others are saying.

read reviews online & watch youtube. that can give u an idea on how good/bad the phone is.
