@ianho i was referring to the other ian! haha.
@(i forget who), not gonna buy a tilt-shift just to take a handful of building photos in a year, lol. so the 'leaning back' look sucks, huh? okok imma try straighten it out in PS and see how it looks. Thing is the short focal length distorts the perspective (i.e. the 'bottom' floor looks way longer/taller in comparison with the rest of the building) ... hmm ... time to google, haha. I have it. The AF is fast, much better than the 5DMkII. But it is not fullframe... so sometimes, cannot get wide enough with just the 24-70 lah. Other than that, nothing bad about it. A bit heavy, but nothing more than a 5DMkII with grip. The battery life is great. Can shoot over 1500pics per charge. It doesnt' have built-in flash, so have to slot in the 580 whenever u feel like flashing someone. no google please... I want genuine experience from the owner [may whoever they are] |

Sony need translucent mirror coz they put 10fps into a cheap camera. Cheap Mirror assemblies cannot cope with flapping around at 10fps.

QUOTE(zstan @ Nov 4 2010, 02:37 PM) sorry bro. if you want to think like that, i can't do anything. cheers. I never implied that Canon was/is a perfect brand. In actuality I much prefer many aspects of a Nikon than Canon, but I won't get into that.My point is that with almost every of your post in the Canon EOS threads it's always something about Sony has this, Canon doesn't, come join us etc. It's bordering "fanboyism" which I believe is prohibited? I don't have to go search up for your posts and quote them but...really. Why is it that some people have to try so hard? I remember once seeing someone (presumably a Sony user) putting something like "I don't support the popular brands and I'm proud to be a user of the underdogs, I'm a proud Sony user" or something in his signature. I can't really understand the point in making such a statement, one's own insecurity? Oh does anyone know how much a 1D Mark II N can go for nowadays? I rarely see one for sale, if ever. |

Haiyooooooooo the 1D is not using crop sensor to give more focal length la. Go read up properly regarding crop n FF. The reason why Canon use 1.3 crop on the 1D is because that is the limit for shooting at 10fps. If it was a FF sensor it would result in ghosting. The big sensor cannot discharge quick enough. Current technology does not allow Canon to go bigger than 1.3x at 10fps.

The only Canon FF DSLR cameras are the 5D or 1Ds series cameras. Take your pick. |

QUOTE(Grajindo @ Nov 4 2010, 04:21 PM) Just like to ask, how about for Nikon? Both D3 and D3s have 9-11 fps right? But I don't understand why 9-11. LOL.. Not an exact figure.. Nikon doesn't do 10fps on FF too. It's the same problem every1 will hit. It's a technological barrier they have hit for now. The nikons are in crop mode when doing max fps. |

normally max is 9.
If you attached the battery grip, you get more power, hence the max will increase to 11. |

hello
wish to get some info from the masters here, when comparing 7d and 5dm2, most of the users will say 5dm2 has weaker AF as the 7d has newer AF technology. but may i know, if AF of 5dm2 compare with 50d? is the AF (speed and in low light condition) of 5dm2 better than 50d? or just the same. thanks |

anyone is using a blackrapid strap here? I have been eyeing for a replacement strap for my current canon strap and the blackrapid and optech strap look very promising.
blackrapid's attaches the strap to the tripod connector, and another similar strap by optech attaches the strap to the normal strap hook. this site claims that attaching the strap to the tripod connector is not good for the camera long term. What do you guys think? is the claim true? any experience from sifus here? Optech's version attaches to only a single strap connector, im afraid that the connector might loosen due to the camera's weight. any other pro and cons? black rapid website optech utility strap website anyway, a video about the blackrapid's strap This post has been edited by azrash: Nov 4 2010, 11:59 PM |

The guy asking bout hood for 18-55. Make sure u don't get the gaya petal hood ya.
QUOTE(sniper on the roof @ Nov 5 2010, 08:57 AM) No thank u. I don't like to use ND filters. I want to be able to walk in n out of bright n dark places n just snap away without having to screw around with all that. Also, u really wanna put another piece of black glass in front of the beautiful lens? N u want me to buy an ND filter for every lens? The UV filters alone already cost me rm700 per piece for each lens. Add sumore ND in front will not only degrade IQ, it will degrade my wallet. |

Guys, want to ask ar.
If I were to find a lens similar to the 24-70 range and constant aperture f/2.8, which lens should I consider ar? Choices are: Tamron 28-75 f/2.8, Sigma 24-70 f/2.8 and Tokina 28-80 f/2.8 From internet, seems that Tokina has the best build, lens wont extend when zooming, and has better glass. But I find this lens kinda 'cold' among photography hobbyist in Malaysia. I also never heard of this all these while until recently. Dont see anyone selling new. Can only find second hand ones for Nikon mount. The seller claimed Tokina 280 focusing speed is super fast, soild build, vivid colour output, standard 77mm filter ring. Downside are heavy, a little bit soft when full aperture open, paint at lens body easy drop off. Anyone has some thoughts to share with? |

XD Yeah that's one problem I get with recording videos on the 5D2, there's no headphones output to monitor the audio. If I want I'll have to buy an external preamp or use those Zoom recorders. Btw bro, I assume you're not using AGC right? Where do you usually set the audio levels? Another bad thing about not having an external preamp is that I can't change the audio levels on the fly while recording. |

I shoot stage performances more. Then shoot normal candid photos when go out with friends and occasional model shooting. For stage, 28mm is okay for me, as there will be some distance i'm standing away from stage. But for candid photo, i.d.k. lerr. |

i find stage short range lens not that good cos often you have to stand quite near and shooting the subject from an angle too low doesn't look good.

But then I think the smooth paintjob on the hood will cause the hood to be easily scuffed, just like the Canon hoods. |

I no budget for those kind of set up yet, although I want it yeap... it's a wireless system that comes with the lavs... but we used an AT boom mic instead... Yeah that's one problem I get with recording videos on the 5D2, there's no headphones output to monitor the audio. If I want I'll have to buy an external preamp or use those Zoom recorders. Btw bro, I assume you're not using AGC right? Where do you usually set the audio levels? Another bad thing about not having an external preamp is that I can't change the audio levels on the fly while recording. those equipments not mine 1... we rented it from somewhere... cant afford it yet... haih... i rather get an external preamp than a Zoom recorder... at least it has 2 or 3 mic inputs... since the price is almost the same... of coz not using AGC... i think all video ppl should know this, rite? haha... i normally test sound 1st... ask actors to speak like normal, then talk louder... then scold ppl... wanna get the perfect level... normally i will set it before yellow bar... |

QUOTE(pengster @ Nov 6 2010, 12:12 AM) But on FF, 50mm is my fav focal length Oh that's nice! 1.6k is a pretty good price. I think I'll drop by his shop soon and check it out.I got it for RM1.6k, grey set with 1 year warranty. Bought from mitmivec. Eh, I know la you got the 50L, I can only afford this Sigmalux Yeah I have the 50L but the Sigma's also something I've looked into for a long time. Always thought it was very sharp and good. The only concern I really had was a bad copy and the crinkle paint. I just happened to chance upon a 50L at a reasonable price sooner than I got a Sigma. Now that they've fixed the paint I might just get one too. |

Gosh, I just came back from hell. Vomited non-stop since last night, I gave up this morning and doctor gave me a jab.
Then, I forgot to bring my laptop charger back to hometown, edited some shots I took last night, the moment I want to upload them on Flickr, pop! No more battery juice. Sad sad. Been sleeping on bed the whole day. I hope tomorrow will be better... |

QUOTE(azrash @ Nov 6 2010, 10:15 PM) Just came back from a 2 week tour of duty... doing weapon cleaning now .... and found some bulu behind the focus screen!!! ps: Anyone know how to remove 550D focus screen? QUOTE(charles86 @ Nov 6 2010, 11:17 PM) I'll go (I did actually) with the 18-135mm... peng leng jeng Not the best lens in the world but it's half the price of the 18-200, light (this is important) and has good IS. Image quality .. I can live with. My travel mate actually brought a 28-70 and 17-40 to poison me but most of the time, I stick with the 18-135mm Sample here .... daylight = EF-S 18-135... low light = Sigma 30mm f1.4 http://www.flickr.com/photos/23880047@N05/...251446376/show/ Hope that helps. |

sniper, don't remove focussing screen if you don't want to make your day bad. It is so delicate that a microfiber cloth can scratch it.

Juicedlink? never heard of it... perhaps i should google it later... yeap, sometimes it's very hard to get the level that u want... furthermore u can't monitor the sound while recording... haha... but wut to do? hv to deal wif it also... XD I've read that quite a lot of people use juicedlink as a preamp for their 5D2/7D/etc on other forums la, not sure how good is it though. That's the thing I don't like when I'm recording videos. Only thing I can do is to either get an external preamp or use those Zoom recorders and the sync it in post. |

Tamron 17-50mmf2.8 vs Canon 17-40f4L: http://www.the-digital-picture.com/Reviews...p=0&FLI=0&API=2 I find it funny on the ppl using 1740f4L with cropped body. The lens range is short, f4 is small, not sharp and expensive. Maybe it's the weather sealing feature they looking for. |

QUOTE(sukhoi37 @ Nov 7 2010, 07:49 PM) Don't waste your money on 17-40f4L. Well, it depends on what you want the 17-40 for. Some go for the L, some go for the specsIt is for FF not for cropped. IQ comparison? Tamron 17-50mmf2.8 vs Canon 17-40f4L: http://www.the-digital-picture.com/Reviews...p=0&FLI=0&API=2 I find it funny on the ppl using 1740f4L with cropped body. The lens range is short, f4 is small, not sharp and expensive. Maybe it's the weather sealing feature they looking for. I am a 17-50 2.8 user but change to 17-40 2 months ago. Maybe it is because of the work line that I do In many situations the 17-50 was unable to cope at the speed I was going and the 17-40 was just perfect. First point is USM Secondly is the colors and sharpness. I felt I could get better results at F4 over the tamron. I knew 17-40 wasn't the sharpest out there But it gets the job done and lastly is weather sealing. In my work, rain or shine, you must still shoot There are 101 lens rain coat out there but I felt I don't need it if I have the 17-40 I am using the 17-50 on crop, 7D to be exact and it yields much more consistent results over the 17-50 overall. @kimkoon: Do take note that the Sandisk extreme III is a much older version and it have been replaced with Sandisk Extreme The Extreme IV is replaced by Extreme Pro This post has been edited by azrinarizz: Nov 7 2010, 08:43 PM |

Also, the mark one optical trigger is quite insensitive to other flashes other than the pop up flash. Other than that, it's about the same. So you might want to go for the Di622 mark 1? |

Totally new and challenging assignment for me today. Had to snap photos from the back of a truck followed by the cyclists. Endured bumpy roads of Malaysia, the smell of Rubber and palm oil plantation at its best. Not to mention also the car sickness after awhile because of the Genting-ish road.
This was where IS was used to the maxxx! This post has been edited by creap: Nov 7 2010, 09:54 PM |

Added on November 7, 2010, 10:28 pm QUOTE(LegendLee @ Nov 7 2010, 09:00 PM) I was in the situation before. I agree! I choose the 17-40 L simply because I plan to upgrade to full frame, (2 more months !!!) Of course you can get the 10-22 first and sell it off when you upgrade. think can safely assume that malaysia intensity is more than other places which has 4 seasons. meter it yourself la.... why you want to weaken the flash some more by adding a dumb demb? |

try to use the lights around you for highlights. highlights will bring out the texture and details of the food. ![]() |

doesn't matter, you'll get it. you read my simple food shoot article?
quite often it relies on you to spot where are the strong and soft light sources and how to use it for your photos. the earlier photo i use flash, cos i was at event so flash la who cares. ![]() not the best shot i have but you can see how i use the strong lights at the back to highlight the creamy texture of the dish. you can combo food also, one as subject while the other as decoration. ![]() |

http://www.goldfries.com/photography/food-...sic-equipments/ you missed out this article huh?
when i want to TAKE PHOTO, i don't just suka hati go to the makan place wan la. i study the location, study the crowd (ok la not exactly but sometimes you get to know when got less crowd. less crowd mean less waiter / worker walking around. mean less light variation also). location means surrounding, see is it shaded or got natural source of light. blablablablabla.......... sound like going for battle right? of course, as a photographer you're supposed to THINK. not just go there and hentam and hope for the best. you hope for the best only after you think. you need to know how to manipulate the environment, with or without flash. some photos if i tell you how long i took to take and what equipment i used - you might be shocked. anyway back to taking those photos. reach restaurant also not really need to rush to find place. if you have experience, you can agak agak where to sit best. and also ........... eh i think i cover most of it in the article already, i'm just repeating myself. hehe. to add to the complexity, you may need to also consider the temperature of the light. no la no need to go touch it hot or not, sure hot wan. i referring to whether the lights are cool, warm or whatever. some restaurants like to mix their lights. either that or they cincai replace bulb with whatever color and don't care. i tell you when light is like that susah, even RAW also hard to adjust. |

Well thats why photographer are well-known and it is because of his/her "pre-visualization" comes true.
who said photography is all about pns... all about planning and execution. Like the guy waiting 40 years for a lightning shot and a japanese guy waited for 3 months for a sunset shot. QUOTE(pengster @ Nov 9 2010, 12:01 AM) Maybe you can try to look for Bagman. It's like the Crumpler 7 Million Dollar Home's clone. Should be below RM200. Oh ya, good recommendation. im choosing in between 5MDH and 6MDH... i dun like big bag.. 7MDH is too big for me, but i've never seen 6MDH in real life... 5MDH's size is nice, but i'm just worried kenot fit everything...
i have a 60D+18-200mm and 50mm so far... perhaps gonna get a flashgun... other lenses not sure yet... do u think 5MDH can do the job, or to be save, get 6MDH? i saw some Crumpler OEM quite cheap... dunno it's a fake or what... btw, i'm looking for screen protector for 60D... seems very hard to find tho... any recommendation? |

But I find it rather convenient to carry a sling bag la. Still I wanna get a proper pouch or belt system. |

generally those with 1 strap you can on shoulder is called sling bag / shoulder bag.
the term Slingshot is for one of Lowepro's product range. *for clarification sake la. and single strap bag hurts cos all the weight rests on 1 shoulder. |

Many sellers misused the term of "OEM"... I think there is a thread on this section that guides one to differentiate the ori and fake Crumpler and Lowepro...

Kata backpacks are very good. I own two myself - they've never let me down. I'd particularly recommend the R-103 but it's quite costly.
I'm not really a backpack kind of person though, so I much prefer my Lowepro Stealth Reporter or Rezo unless I'm going on a long trip. |

After 3 months of "struggling". From selection Sony 550-> Sony A55 -> Canon 50D -> Canon 60D -> Canon 550D. I end up getting 50D.... LOL.... with tamron with VC. Seller recommend me the Tonika 11-16mm F2.8 lense, but i end up getting tamron with vc due to out of budget.
At first i have already decided to choose 550D.. But until i reach the shop and test each camera and found out that.... 1) 550D is really light..... real real light.... light until I'm unable to accept it as DSLR. LOL. 2) Test on the HD video... In fact I would rather get camcorder for better quality and longer recording. 3) The handling on 50D is really good..... It feels good when I'm holding it. 550D.... you know lah... 60D..... its "OK" to me... but i think 50D has more feel on it. 4) Function of 50D is really awesome... Lots of stuff that i can play with.... and I'm still learning it. This is my thought during purchasing the dslr. Tonika lense really looks awesome, if comparing tamron f2.8. I found out that tonika has more quality than tamron after comparing both pic taken live in the shop. (My thoughts) But price is like RM800 more expensive. T__T Conclusion: Join Canon Fans Club gang~~~, finally.... got lots of stuff to learn from guys like you all who has taken so much quality photo. I might post some photo here and need you guys to guide me. XD Or anyone has the photo taking guidance video or ebook? |

It's Tokina and not Tonika...
Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 and Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 VC are two different ranges lenses, how can be compared like that? Tokky is an Ultra Wide Angle lens whereas Tammy is Wide to Mid-zoom lens. 550D is very light? Yeah, because it is not made by magnesium alloy body but when I attach it with my battery grip, Tammy 1750VC and 580EX II, it really carries some weights now. At least those people that hold my camera said that it is heavy... To me, I'm still OK with it. |

QUOTE(Jet23sky @ Nov 9 2010, 11:31 AM) ooo... icic.... So both are different range of lenses? I heard from seller that this one Tokky can be used for full frame. Is it correct? Tokky ultra wide angle can be used for portrait photo taking right? Yes, can be used for FF if I'm not mistaken but then I think will be prone for vignetting. They said that 550D is suitable for girls. I think which is really really really suitable for u. ^^ Maybe you're right, attach the lense might be heavier. But seriously, I dont know why, the handling is so good when i hold the 50D. XD UWA for portrait? No la not so suitable unless you wanna cover the background also la, it is for landscape and interior shots or maybe huge group shot. 550D is not so bad one la. Anyway 50D is not a bad camera too, enjoy yourself and welcome to the world of poisoning. U say reliable or not?i saw Kata DR-466i and Kata Dr-467i, which can fit laptop as well... and the price is kinda cheap... i might be getting that... cuz im really a backpack guy... i go everywhere with my backpack, but if a bag specially for camera only, i'm not that interested... at least these come with laptop compartment... i might be getting 5MDH as well... cuz it's really a small sling bag... i dun like big sling... |

Cool, might consider a external flash if budget still allow. Also, lenses like the 18-270 and the 18-200 weights 3x your current 18-55 IS kitlens. It's worth looking at a canon 18-135mm/ sigma 18-125mm and use the weight/budget balance to get a 50mm f1.8 for low light situation (add together still cheaper and lighter) especially in places whereby a flash is not ideal.. like in museums, places of worship etc... and a big camera+big flash attached could create too much unwanted attention some less safe place. My 2 cents. |

To be frank with you, I had a hard time getting fast enough shutter speed to freeze movement while trying to preserve as much ambient light as possible on my 5DmarkII+430EXII. I also found that I am using ISO 1000 and above throughout the function. just my noob 2 junk cent. Perhaps other sifu may give you more pointer. |

It is all about doing your homework ... while all this will sounds like a troublesome... just do it. It will benefit you. My sifu also said this... "You all take pictures like a fool. Try to pre-visualize the shot you wanted and list down the style shots you wanted then you can execute it nicely." Practically speaking that, you don't go war in blind, you must be prepared for all the consequences that may or may not happen. My own motto is that "Why everyone can do that and I can't? We are all human" My own picture and no... this is not a strobist shot or whatever you called it... I pre-visualize it and he happens to be right spot at the right amount of light and walla~ snapped it ![]() This post has been edited by ComradeZ: Nov 9 2010, 09:26 PM |

QUOTE(ComradeZ @ Nov 9 2010, 09:23 PM) why everyone can do that and i can't? . I love that motivating motto of yours, but your motto does not really fit for his situation.. I assume that he had no prior experience in shooting a banquet before. A Chinese banquet with over thousands of people is way to dynamic for our dual core brain to comprehend. Yet alone for a none experienced trying to take up the main photog role without any proper gears. OK i'm not trying to emphasize on gears here as I know there's ppl who use powershot could beat the hell out of us with dslr. To me it's all about experience honed and it's not as simple as "you can then i can", if the world is that simple then everyone's a billionaire Just as what i posted earlier, do not screw up one's wedding. It's not a job for the non experienced unless he's the backup photog. Why bother getting all teh brain fug for nothing in case screwed up ? especially when the "client" is your friend or family members. |

QUOTE(goldfries @ Nov 9 2010, 07:03 PM) why cannot? whether actual day or pre-wed, you'!l be surprised it can be done beautifully with just 1 lens. i shot a friend's wedding recently with 18-135 IS. shoot one day. image handed the next day. 2 days later the mother come thank me for the photos. that's not to say you should rely on only one but it's just to show your mind (thinking need more than 1 lensis a greater limitation than your gear. |

wedding photography is a lucrative business.
and there are some dark secret that are......secrets. only if u observe carefully how the pro set their schedule, how do the backup assistant is placed, and how do they pre-visualise the flow or story of the wedding, and how they use their social skill to interact with client etc, then welcome to the business. and p/s: they hate new competitors. |

Just bought canon 550D recently. pls feel free comment on my below picture on where i should improve. using 50mm 1.8 for better feedback, best you put in gallery rather than asking here. the spam level is insane and you are not likely to get any feedback when that happens. good attempt but try having a wider depth of field, if you're shooting food at f1.8 or whatever widest aperture with your prime lens - you're not heading the right direction. might need some work on the exposure too. |

QUOTE(nicotine @ Nov 9 2010, 09:11 PM) err sorry to be blunt ... i guess it's better to advise your friend/relative to get a pro .. please don't screw up other ppl's once in a life time mia wedding I did some shots before on my friends and cousins wedding dinner, although i'm not the official photog. QUOTE(ComradeZ @ Nov 9 2010, 09:23 PM) Remember that, even though your equipment are poor... try to see the schedule and maybe have a visit a day before the wedding begins and sync it with the timing on the schedule. Visualize the wedding of how it is going to be.... Like my fav photographer always say "Expression beats perfection any day" so yeah... try to visualize the shot you wanted and try to compose in your mind. I pre-visualize it and he happens to be right spot at the right amount of light and walla~ snapped it ![]() QUOTE(chinti @ Nov 10 2010, 12:20 AM) I'm still a newb in photography and I tested wedding photography last week at my cousin wedding...my exp is that the light won't b enough due to the ceiling is very high and I guess all wedding dinner hv diff kinda light that will affect ur shot..so it's very hard to get the right setting at tht time on the spot...plus u nd to follow both the bride n groom everywhere to shoot which is another hard task... sorry guys, but it is not a wedding, it is a Charity dinner for my organization. so everything is volunteer. btw, thanks for the experience. gonna digest this few post 1st. thanks! |

For something like a charity dinner like alex, where it is indoor and ceiling is high, should use direct flash or bounce using foamboard better ? or Stofen diffusers? 450D max iso is at 1600, so nid to count on flash.

My n00b 2 cents : Direct flash straight towards the high ceiling. Light bounced should be diffused enough. Unless ceiling is too high (more than 8 meters), it should work. It's should overpower any bad lighting over a wide radius too, if not just increase shutter speed ,flash power and larger aperture. The Nissin Di622 would manage although a 580EXII would probably do the job far better. This post has been edited by LegendLee: Nov 10 2010, 01:40 AM |

Another factor could be because with a larger aperture, the depth of field is reduced so only a small portion of the photo is sharp which makes the overall picture seem unsharp. Correct me if I'm wrong... Try setting the aperture smaller and comparing. |

QUOTE(Jet23sky @ Nov 9 2010, 11:03 AM) After 3 months of "struggling". Actually with the 550D body, battery grip with 2 batteries, tokina 124 and flash gun. damn heavy =.=At first i have already decided to choose 550D.. |

QUOTE(Jet23sky @ Nov 10 2010, 02:24 PM) but if u look at real movie production...not everyone will stay shooting at 1hour plus.... they will juz shoot the required scene only which probably last few mins or so yes i actually prefer DSLR for video for their wide range of lens unless u are talking those super video recorders like Phantom or RED like Phantom 1000FPS rate of recording |

QUOTE(goldfries @ Nov 10 2010, 01:36 PM) eh 550# with grip, lens and flash on is not light. haha the fact that dslr are now replacing the big camera is not a myth now... and yeah i prefer to have 550d than a beta cam camcorder for better video? hehe, i had both, prefer dslr video. full hd + multiple choice of lense = yeah baby rock on! Tho, I don't mind the Sony VG-10 too but in all honesty.... i would pick 5d mark ii over it This post has been edited by ComradeZ: Nov 10 2010, 02:36 PM |

Guys, i have a budget of RM3500. I should get a 60D with 18-55mm or a 550D with 18-135mm?
Does the 18-135mm better than the 18-55mm in terms of sharpness and image quality? |
